22oz bottle poured into a New Belgium globe. Reviewed from notes.
A: Pours a hazy golden-orange. A large, creamy, bone-white head sits confidently atop the beer. Retention is great. A thin coating of lacing paints the walls of the glass. This is a great looking beer.
S: Floral and spicy hops with lively notes of citrus underneath. Malt smells bready, grainy, and lightly honeyed. Yeast smells bready and ever so slightly chalky.
T: Hops on the attack. Floral and herbal/spicy with a mild grapefruit rind and pine resin bitterness. A good dose of rye hits on the mid-palate and compliments the hop spiciness nicely. Bread and soft grainy tastes ride on the coattails of the rye. A pleasant earthy yeast taste adds further nuance. Oily, spicy hops and spicy rye come back toward the end and linger on into the finish.
M: On the lighter side of medium bodied. Substantial and full in the mouth, smooth and well-rounded. Moderate carbonation.
O: This is a great American Pale Ale. The marriage of rye and a nice spicy hop profile is a harmonious one. The brewers weren't afraid to get a little creative here, but they didn't stray too far from the style. The result is a beer that colors outside the lines a bit, but still retains that classic APA feel. Tasty, nuanced, and creative. Great stuff.

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, light gold in color, high carbonation, hazy
Smell: citrus hops, lime, and lemon
Taste: citrus hops, pale malt, lime, and lemon--light rye
Mouthfeel: sweetish start with a slightly bitter finish, light bodied with high carbonation
Overall: An interesting pale ale/rye beer with a lot more lime taste to it than I had anticipated. The rye is there but it is faint. I have had better from this brewery, but I would not turn this down.
