Notes/Commercial Description:
Heady like the sweet breath of Zephyrus, our India pale ale is redolent of citrus, apples, and pears, balanced by a touch of caramel. We use malted barley grown by local farmers and add a special blend of Cascade, Centennial, and Calypso hops to create this juicy, hoppy ale.

A - Pale yellow, pure white head, fairly dense. Nice retention and lacing

S - Citrus, apple, and somewhat malty

T - Floral and citrus hops upfront, decently bitter, deep caramel malts but also a cloying sweetness in the aftertaste. No strong presence of alcohol.

M - Medium body, high carbonation but with nice fine bubbles that makes for clean finish. The beer is syrupy and sticks to the tongue.

O - This is good but could be much better. The cloying sweetness and slight apple taste along with the sticky mouthfeel are detractions for me. Also not digging the 6.99 price tag on the tall boy. Probably won't be trying this again, but won't mind trying a double IPA if it hits the shelf.

Rising tide zephyr

A - pours a hazy amber which starts as a dark red up top but slowly gets lighter with more hints of yellow toward the bottom. An impressively thick head of foam bubbles up quickly. Saying it is mousse-like would be an understatement. Great retention as well.

S - the aroma is muted. Notes of grapefruit, lemon zest and pine blend with a sweet caramel malt profile.

T - strong malt profile. Notes of gooey caramel and nutty flavors. Intense hop bitterness cuts through with notes of bitter orange peel. The fruity notes enter mid palate with flavors of oranges, white peaches, and lemon pith. Finish is fairly clean with just a tinge of bitterness.

M - medium verging on full bodied. High creamy scrubbing bubbles.

O - a nice east coast ipa. While not my favorite interoperation of the style it was still a pleasant drink.

My second go round with Rising Tide, the Daymark was not my speed so I gave Zephyr a shot.

Burnished copper pour, frothy 3 finger ecru head, below average lacing.

Hops are struggling to break through the malt in the nose, yet the malt doesn't have that butterscotch sweetness (locally grown malt is supposed to be a selling point). Mild whiff of grapefruit beneath the mighty malt.

Taste starts out an interesting malty flavor which isn't necessarily sweet, and in the final swallow, a tinge of grapefruit bitterness takes over leaving a relatively pleasant, albeit one note flavor.

Mouthfeel is medium, slight grain, nicely carbonated.

This is a solid IPA but not overly interesting or complex.

Had on tap at Pour Farm New Bedford--served into a pint glass

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, moderate carbonation, brown-orange in color, clear

Smell: citrus hops and light toasted malt

Taste: light toasted malt, bread, pineapple, and light grapefruit at the end

Mouthfeel: sweet with a dry bitter middle and end, light body, medium carbonation

Overall: A solid citrusy sipper. I enjoyed this one, would get it again, but there are others in the style I would get first.

Serving type: on-tap
