Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a very dark opaque brown amber. Half finger fine light tan head with great retention and lacing. Mild aroma of sweet toasted malt. Flavor is subdued caramel and mild roasted malt, faint light fruit. A mellow, well integrated porter. Medium bodied with some creaminess. The mouth feel and flavor are both pleasant, but this is very, very subdued in flavor. The flavors that are present are very nice, but too attenuated.

Consumed on February 17th, 2013 at the La Jolla Brewhouse.
Appearance is a proper opaque brown with deep mahogany highlights. No head at all as brought to the table.
Aroma of coffee and dark, over-roasted malts.
Flavor - lots of coffee, some bitter chocolate, burnt malt. One note beer.
Mouthfeel is proper for a porter - thin and fairly still. A nice touch is a slight creaminess.
Unremarkable, on the whole.

Amber brown in the Coronado small tulip. Nice touch of foam, though not so much lacing along the glass. However, the soft and creamy carbonation is quite a delight. Next are the warm and mild malt flavors. Plenty of caramel along with some dark roast barley. Hops are in the background, but give a pleasant bitter aftertaste. It's just not highly bitter like some of the American darks. Extremely drinkable.
Different label and ABV (7%) than the "Barrel Aged" version, and it lacks the charred barrel and boozy flavors.
I call this an English Porter since the brewery is no help, and examples of Brown Porters seems to be mostly British. IBUs listed at 28 IBU, which is in line with the English style. $6.99 at the Olive Tree Market in OB.
