Beer/Brewery – Invocation/Wild Haven
City/State- Decatur, Georgia
STYLE – Belgian Strong Pale Ale
ABV –8.5%
IBU – 48
DATE – 29 JUN 2011
SERVING TYPE – 12 oz Bottle
APPEARANCE – A very pale orange with a not clear but not cloudy either. Good consent flow of bubbles from the bottom of the glass and a nice thin head that clings to the side of the glass. Curtain like lacing
AROMA- Fruity with a hint of the alcohol. More of a citrus fruit smell
TASTE – Good maltiness right off the bat. Some citrus notes and an unusual spice on the tail end. Also a small bit of bitterness is hidden there as well.
MOUTHFEEL – A little syrupy but with good carbonation
CONCLUSION – I like this beer, it is a big beer to drink but too heavy. Also it is a beautiful beer. I have only w a few Wild Haven beers but I am impressed! All you GA breweries better watch out for these guys.

Pours with a very fine creamy head that has great durability and leaves plenty of lacing.

Funk, yeast and fruit on the nose. Very Belgian but otherwise not really appealing.

Taste partly parallels the nose, but with a good bit of tartness that, unfortunately IMO, is accompanied by a mild bitterness. Too much funky/yeasty flavor. Oddly, the aftertaste is rather nice however.

M: excellent feel, with a medium body and very good carbonation with an exceptionally soft feel.

O: Too much wild yeast and funk for my taste; overly bitter finish.

(revised with another tasting, also on tap in 2013)

On-tap at the Brick Store.

Pours a deep golden color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of crisp pilsner malts with large amounts of ripe pears. Also present are slight amounts of tropical fruit hops that intensify as the beer warms.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Crisp pilsner malt flavors kick things off and are quickly joined by moderate amounts of pear flavors. Midway through the sip large amounts of earthy hops come into play along with milder amounts of tropical fruit flavors. The earthy hops and pilsner malt flavors carry through to a surprisingly solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by GA's newest brewery - a very good, if non-traditional, BSPA. Well worth a shot when you see it around town.

Many thanks to Ahlthe3rd for the chance to taste this one. Another beer from a brewery I have never come across. Poured from bottle into Brooklyn tulip. Pours a terrific hazy golden color, impressive head and retention. Smell- nutmeg, sage, bready aroma. Exciting, smells delicious. taste- nutmeg and a nice hop bitterness blast the back of my throat. A really nice malt sweetness finishes on the end. For the abv, this is incredibly smooth. This is a real winner, I really enjoyed it.

Tried a pint on draft at Taco Mac in CNN Center. Pours a rich golden color, topped by a thick, creamy white head, leaving some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet pale malt, candi sugar, and some light, fruity hops with tropical fruit notes.
Palate is light pale malt up front, with some bubblegum sweetness. Citrusy notes from the hops, along with more tropical fruit (pineapple) come through mid-palate. Finish is full and rich, with sweetness from the malt and a good dose of fruity esters.
Body is light and smooth, almost silky. A surprise that this comes from Georgia. The alcohol is well-integrated to the point where you'd never guess that this is above 8%.

Pours a hazy golden body with a mild white head. Nose has that typical Belgian aroma mixed with hops. Taste brings the same, but also a nice maltiness. Combines some elements of mild bitter hops with fruity/floral notes, malty sweetness, and a bit of Belgiany spice. There's almost what I would consider a wheat character to this beer, but from what I've read so far, there's no wheat in this one -- which is odd, since the appearance looks quite a bit like a wheat beer as well.

Mouthfeel is silky smooth and very round -- almost to a fault. I wouldn't mind a little more zip from the carbomation.

12 oz bottle @ Rooster's Beak.

A: It is golden with two thick fingers of white head.

S: Strong maltiness and hoppiness; some citrus notes and Belgian yeast come through as well.

T: Cloves, lemon, orange peel, strong hoppiness, and caramel malt background.

M: The body is relatively light compared to the strong flavors, while the carbonation is strong.

O: This is solid. It's pretty hoppy for a Belgian ale.

A crisp and effervescent beer that calls to mind some of the best Belgian Goldens, but with an American twist. It goes down incredibly smooth for 8.5% abv and just feels perfectly balanced with enough hop flavor on the front-end without a bitter aftertaste. This may be my favorite beer ever to come out of the South.
