Pours a nice copper brown, leaves lacing. Smells great. I get a big chocolate malt smell, some caramel. Taste is just straight up malty overall. Fairly well balanced beer, big chocolate and caramel malt up front and a lingering bitterness. I little bit of an almond taste up front. It finishes with a sense of alcohol and a hint of espresso. Let this beer warm up. It went from "ehh" to "wow, that's pretty good" in my glass.
Really good beer, but I think it's just a tad too bitter. Not much at all, but just a lingering bitterness that seems a bit out of place.
I'd definitely buy this again.

Pours a clear, brown color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of roasted malt, sweet malt, chocolate, hint of coffee, slight syrup, and a hint of hop. Fits the style of an American Brown Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of roasted malt, slight chocolate, slight yeast, and slight hop. Overall, good aroma, feel, body, and blend.

big thanks to barrelandzachary for sending this my way as well as a counter-pressure fill of the special winter ale (Bulleit Bourbon aged version of Ode To Mercy) which i opened side-by-side with this.
Enjoyed from a sixpoint snifter.
a - brew poured a ruby highlighted chestnut with a finger of creamy head that never fully left. lacing was a wall of creamy foam and moved as a whole.
s - nose is coffee...nut...roast. brown sugar and earthy grain.
t - bam. there it is...imperial brown ale on coffee. as advertised. solid one at that. the coffee is a bit heavy handed over the brown and dialed back quite a bit with the special winter version (and then coated in caramel happiness...but that's the other beer). so yeah, this beer is a good imperial brown ale, but next to that special winter version...doesn't hold a candle. worth checking out though if you like browns with bitter coffee.
m - a bit dry and bitter on the finish and prickly carbonation.
o - overall, super solid imperial brown with coffee. check it out...but hot dog...dat special winter ale version of this beer...kill or maim for that one.
