Pouring from a 12 oz. can into a wine glass. This beer pours out a cola color brown and doesn't form a crown, just a light tan outer ring of carbonation. The smell is some warming bourbon that allows you to smell other notes of oak, coffee, a like new char, slight cinnamon and even some nutmeg. The taste brings the spices of cinnamon and the nutmeg up front. Has the warming bourbon come through about midway and then finish on the dry side with the oak. Overall, very surprised and impressed by this brew and would love to have another.

Poured from the tap into a tulip glass at Taco Mac in Atlanta. The appearance is a dark brown color with a small off-white colored head. The aroma is a blend of oak, toasted malt and a slight fragrance of vanilla. The taste is very similar to the nose but with very little oak in the mix. A very nice beer.

No label information. Ode to Mercy Special Winter Ale is brewed in the style of an American Brown Ale aged on Bourbon Barrel Chips, available in winter release 750ml. bottles and on seasonal draft.
Poured from a 750ml. bottle to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a foamy cream head of a creamy pastel white color over a medium caramel brown body with moderate carbonation and mild haziness. Retention is very good and lacing is moderate and patchy. 4.25
(Smell) Nutty, earthy with notes of rich toffee and caramel, undertones of molasses, bourbon vanilla and oak tannins. Potency is moderate. 4.25
(Taste) The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a moderate drying malt body of toffee and caramel malts with a mild viscosity, slightly earthy and nutty with modest fruit undertones. The "Special Winter" treatment is a subtle dash of bourbon oak chips, generating delicate notes of vanilla and moderately toasted oak tannins for a lightly drying finish. Quite enjoyable. 4
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, silky, lightly creamy, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a lightly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium+ overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to acidic and earthy bitter compounds. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) While I don't have a current bottle of Ode to Mercy standard to compare with, I find the Winter version of this beer is quite enjoyable, with a noticeable impact of bourbon and oak really spicing up the flavor and finish of this beer for a product that tastes very winter-appropriate. At a reasonable price, this is a justifiable purchase for fans of Ode to Mercy standard. 4

Had on draft at Summit's Wayside Tavern.
Came to me in a standard 16 oz. beer glass. Color was a dark mahogany with a thin skin but no head.
Smell: Malty, licorice, coffee, alcohol esters So a lot going on.
Taste: I get some definite bourbon like alcohol up front. Coffee and some distant bitter chocolate.
High alcohol ABV of 8.2% very evident and not to my liking.
