Had this barleywine as a sampling at our store. Orange-gold color with very little head. Moderate cloudiness.
Smells of dark honey with a slight creaminess, and a background of European hops.
Tastes of dark honey and cream, soft hops and a slight booziness in the finish.
Overall this gave a great barleywine experience with a nice balance. (340 characters)

Served from a 375 ml, wax-finished bottle.

A - Medium copper color with some orange and red. Thick, off-white head that lasts. Slightly hazy.

S - Clean, fresh aroma of bready malt. Some bourbon-like notes, honey. Light oak. Hops are earthy and are very much in the background.

T - Lightly toasted bread, sweet and spicy gingerbread note. Light bourbon, honey. Hops bitterness, but flavors are not distinctive. Sweet alcohol.

M - Medium to heavy body. Moderate, silky carbonation. Strong alcohol presence.

O - This is a deep, rich barley wine that favors malt over hops. It appears to be aged in whiskey barrels, but the character it gained is restrained and subtle compared to many barrel-aged beers. This one is still drinkable without being cloying, and it is certainly delicious. (788 characters)

Appearance: Pours a cloudy copper color with an impressive head; nice stickage that leaves a few strands

Smell: Caramel malt, stone fruit and earthy tones

Taste: Caramel and stone fruit tones, up front, with a developing earthy bitterness; a bit of tobacco arrives in the mid-palate; a bit metallic in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Well, the good news is that with this beer Ranger Creek has dealt with its carbonation and mouthfeel issue and the flavors here are true to style; the cap on this one was rusty (I had the same problem with SBS No. 7) and that may be responsible for the metallic aftertaste in both beers; I can't help but feel this is a brewery that needs to pay a bit more attention to the small things - caps should not be rusty on their beer bottles, particularly one that is six months old

Thanks, RobertH50, for the opportunity (907 characters)

Nice one from the dudes at ranger creek.

Presents a hazy gold with light tan head.

Aroma of honey and orange.

Lightly Sweet. Butterscotch. Not much hops. There is an off-putting after taste that develops when it warms.

Thin mouth feel. Didn't detract from the overall. Good quaff. (287 characters)
