Wow -- I guess I get to be the first to review this beer. Yay!

Appearance: copper - amber, somewhat cloudy, absolutely no head. They must have rushed this to market a bit early before the carbonation is complete. Anyway, this is an easy thing to dial in.
Smell: aroma is melon, pineapple. moderate to strong.
Taste: Somewhat grainy. Very silky in the mouth, a bit of a sweet impression but also a good amount of bitterness.
Mouthfeel: the mouthfeel on this beer is amazing! very silky and just a hint of graininess which I would describe as spectacular. It is a bit undercarbonated ,
Drinkability: This may be the one of my top pale ales. I can't wait to try this when it becomes properly carbonated.

Overall, I am very impressed. If the rest of their beer line is like this I will be a big fan.

Served on tap into a shaker glass.

A- Poured a clear light orange with frothy white head that left glass-coating lace.

S- Big bright citrus notes floral and bready notes.

T- Citrusy and floral hop notes, bready notes, and oats. Light bitteness but lots of hop character in the flavor and aroma, very well balanced.

M- Very creamy, smooth, soft carbonation, and dry. One of the creamiest and smoothest drinking pale ales I have ever had.

O- Very balanced pale ale with an incredible mouthfeel that went down very easy.

A: Pours a clear copper color. A two finger white head forms with good retention. Some nice lace is left behind.
S: Kind of neutral. Some citrus, melons, and grass. A light bitterness lingers. Toasted and sweet malt.
T: Plenty of hops. Citrus, melons, lemon, and grass. A big toasted malt flavor with some oatmeal cookies. The oatmeal is light, but a nice compliment to the malty flavors.
M/D: A medium to full body and moderate carbonation. Ultra smooth and creamy. Just silky smooth from the oatmeal I would assume. So easy to drink. I had two pints and could have had more without a thought.

An excellent pale ale. I was not sure what to expect from an Oatmeal Pale Ale, but this works really well. A well done and unique beer. Something I would highly recommend. I can't wait to see what comes next from Ranger Creek.

On tap at Red's Porch.

A. On the red side of copper with almost no head, but I think the waiter was simply trying to give me as full a pour as possible.

S. Very little head leads to not much aroma. Some biscuity malts and a promise of hops.

T. This is where the beer really took off for me. Sorry to steal a line from another brewery (Wychwood) but the only way to describe this is big, round and fruity. The maltiness reminds of so many good English bitters, but the American hops give it a very different character. The finish is both sweet and bitter.

M. Medium bodied, carbonation not excessive. Smooth and creamy.

O. A very well built beer, and at 5% definitely sessionable.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear amber-copper with an off white head about a finger thick that hangs around and leaves a thin lacing on the top of the beer.

Aroma: Piney and citrus notes with a slight hint of pineapple and a nice malty caramel backbone.

Taste: Piney and citrusy with caramel malts and roasted notes.

Mouthfeel: Probably my favorite part of this beer, creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation and medium body.

Overall: This is probably my favorite of their regular line up and one beer I could drink often.

Bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. Beer is amber, lots of yeast goes right into the glass almost making the beer brown. Very hazy. Nice head though. Good carbonation and some lacing.

Aroma is sweet, grassy, cascade ish hop aroma.

Beer is medium in body. It tastes a little old but the hops are still there. A little fruity, a little grassy, nice finish. I'd have it again. I truly enjoyed it.

Served from a 12 oz. bottle into a goblet.

A - Beer is perfectly clear and a very attractive copper, orange color. The head is a light tan color; very creamy and thick at first. It recedes to a thin layer across the beer and thick ring around the edge that builds into curtains of lace.

S - Aroma is dominated by resiny, American "C" hops, but I can't identify the specific variety. The hops aromas don't seem harsh. Somehow they "round out" or fade into a more earthy note. At the very edge of detectability I get a bit of malt and grain.

T - The flavor is dominated by hops and bitterness, but there is a solid backbone of biscuit malt. There is a bit of butterscotch underneath. As you'd expect, the flavors are focused on sharp, grapefruity, piney, Northwestern hops. Still, if you look past the resiny hops, it almost reminds me of an English IPA with the soft malt.

M - Medium body. There is a creaminess to the mouthfeel that is not only from the carbonation; I assume that comes from the oatmeal. The hops bitterness is high but not harsh. No alcohol burn.

O - I like the beer. It reminds me of some of the hoppier examples of English IPAs that I've had fresh over there. I don't think that was the intended style, but the malt flavors, butterscotch and creamy mouthfeel lean it in that direction for me.

On tap at the Whip In.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of orange citrus with some biscuit malt notes. The flavor is very similar. The grass and orange notes go very well with the biscuit and light toffee notes. There is a lot amount of bitterness, as well as some creamy and oat-like notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

This was one of 12 Texas craft beers on tap at the Esquire in San Antonio.

It was served in a shaker glass; the beer is copper with a clingy off-white head.

The beer has a nose of pine and a hit of caramel malts.

First impression is cascade hop pale ale, but the oatmeal adds a bit of sweetness and the malts a bit of grainy counterpoint. There are hints of citrus, toffee and grass, but the hops rule them all.

The mouth is oily and coating.

I really enjoyed this one and would love to have access to it on a regular basis.

One of four core beers Ranger Creek brews, their Oatmeal Pale Ale is a clever take on a brewhouse staple. I like to think of it as a gateway beer: it’s a quality craft beer that’s an easy drinker and just the sort of thing to win over folks used to BMCL (the L is for Lonestar—this is Texas!).

This beer pours with some cloudiness and a tan/straw color. A muted pale ale aroma. Very effervescent. Mellow flavor that I’m attributing to the oatmeal. Not a hop forward beer, but definitely a light (not in the Light beer sense) and easy drinker.

Real nice looking, an amber-orange beer, perfectly clear, with a nice head and sticky lace.

Aroma and flavor are nice, aroma is a bit muted compared to taste, which is bolder. A good mix of floral and earthy hops, a bit of woodiness.

Body is crisp and has a bitter finish, light to medium and drinkable.

My 2nd from this brewery. Overall it's quite tasty and I will buy it again. Will certainly look for more styles from Ranger Creek, especially since they're local.

Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a nonic.

A: Cloudy, dark golden hue; with a giant, frothy bone colored head. Craters slowly and unevenly, leaving behind hefty amounts of dry residue. Substantial beer ring lacing. Head explodes with each new pour.

S: Hops with a bit of oatmeal, and a prominent floral component of lavender. Maybe a little basil in there also.

T: Nice, hoppy goodness, with a slight pungency from the oat. A light woody tone, with a slightly sweet hint of butterscotch.

M: Light and crisp. Biting hops in the front, with a slightly pungent aftertaste that lingers through the finish.

D: Goes down easy with a pleasing sweet hoppy goodness. Consume at will.

Atmosphere is a really good. Cloudy body, with a thick frothy head, and plenty of lacing. Nose is hops with a pungency from the oatmeal; with a floral character and some sweet and spice components. Flavor is crisp, hoppy, and pungent, with a woody tone and some sweet components for balance. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

I've had plenty of this beer over the last year, but haven't reviewed until now. Since Ranger Creek's bottling line is up and running (thank you, Kickstarter), it's now easier to find their stuff in local shops.

Pours a light amber brown color with a small one-finger head. Nothing special about the appearance. The nose is nice enough, if unspectacular. Sweet malts, faint fruits (pear, apple) and an earthy herbal note. The taste is quite good, though. Sweet up front with a nice balance of fruitiness and maltiness, with a dry, clean palate and a dry, slightly bitter finish. Very nutty. Really good stuff. Mouthfeel is suitable for the style.

On the whole, I really enjoy this beer. I'm glad there are local breweries in SA these days that are brewing good, quality beers with consistency. This may well become my local session beer.

Enjoyed at the Draught House Pub in Austin, Texas, this hoppy oddity shows a slightly cloudy copper color with just a whispy off-white film on top and very little lacing. The aroma brings a decidedly skunky sour mash with a vague caramel sweetness trying to fight through. Odd but not necessarily time to panic. The flavor has an interesting lemon hop bite that is working with a caramel-toffee bread background. The skunk is still there a bit but it's decorated nicely with bubblegum wheat germ ideas and a hint of thyme perhaps? Drinkability is plenty good, medium bodied with a smooth feel. A little different. Not sure I can identify with the oatmeal quotient, but I liked it and would drink again. The aroma might put some folks off but it's just a little unique, not bad at all.

I had this on tap at the Flying Suacer in Houston.

A - Pint pours a nice copper color with a white head that leaves lace as you drink.

S - You can smell the hops clearly but they don't overwhelm. Definitely getting a strong citrus aroma.

T - Very good hoppy ale with a nutty taste that must come from the oats. The hops were strong but not astringent and is well complemented by the oats.

M - So smooth! Just like in an oatmeal stout this beer is so creamy from the oats.

D - Medium body that goes down easy, at 5% I could easily have had several more.

A: Over carbonated, but not frothing out of the bottle, just takes a good long while to pour, even when poured very gently, angled down the side of the glass. Also cloudier than I'd like in any type of "pale ale". Murky butterscotch color; apple cider-like appearance to the liquid. The head is very foamy--like a cappuccino.

S: quite nice--grapefruit, general citrus, stone fruit, aspirin, dough, lemongrass. Reminds me of "old school" (sort of) microbrews from the mid-to-late 90s. Fresh. Yeasty. Wort. Feels like I'm at the brewery on brew day.

T: Prickly citrus notes (quite carbonated), pretty robust grapefruit notes, kaffir lime, quite bitter, but nicely done--there's enough malt backbone to keep it from running amok. Suggestions of kumquats and apricots.

F: Finishes quite bitter with a lengthy citrus fade (leaning toward limes.) Rather dry.

Overall: The bottle conditioning seems to be drying the beer out pretty quickly (mine was bottled only 31 days ago), and, over-carbonating it. That hefty carbonation is offsetting the fullness in the mouth that you'd expect from the oats. But not a bad beer at all. Though I have a feeling it shines on tap vs. in the bottle.

Note: my bottle says this is 5.8% ABV, not 5%.

Thanks Ffej for sharing this bottle, a bomber bottle.

A: The pale ale is coppery amber, clear with a robust head to it.

S: Creamy nose that has plenty of citrusy hops alongside a robust caramel biscuit backbone. The nose evolves, taking on mustier qualities that bleed into the taste. Well-balanced like a good pale ale.

T: Plenty of malts, caramel and breads with a floury biscuit finish. The lead-in to the hops has that smooth oatmeal flavor that I normally associate with a stout. The hops, following the malts, have citrus flavors - oranges, grapefruits, and apricots in tow. The end of the ale is where things get interesting, a Belgian mustiness emerges, not quite wild but fruity -- accentuating the hops. It's not wild but I like where it is headed.

M: The yeasty finish is a highlight, following a well-balanced malty body. Plenty of carbonation and a fruity spectrum.

Pours cloudy orange in color with a massive white head. A rather funky nose to this; I’d almost believe it was a saison. Floral and grassy hop notes with a hint of orange peel. Bread and cracker malt aromas are present as well. The flavor is a bit yeasty with a heavy floral and orange peel character. Slightly sweet from the bread and cracker flavors. I don’t really get all that much oatmeal. Rather highly carbonated, too.

Plenty of carbonation. Too much head, took 5 - 10 minutes to pour. Could have sat on it too long. Hazy, apple cider color. Grassy aroma. Very Belgian like. Spicy, fruity, earthy. Very bitter finish. Carbonation bite with medium body. One of the more unusual Pale Ales I've had.

Small slightly off white head. Fairly cloudy, lightly carbonated. Orange brown in color. Aroma is slightly sweet, floral. Light caramel to start, becoming moderately hoppy through the middle and finish. Not much oatmeal in the body or flavor. Finish becomes a little bitter and orange. Medium body, moderate alcohol.

A says slightly watered down.

A: crystal clear, Pinesol colored with a smidgen of head, no lacing.

S: grass, very malty in a Whoppers/Maltesers kind of way.

T: Necco wafer big time, like those little candy cigarettes, very piney, really its like biting into a pinecone, grassy.

M: medium body, the carbonation leaves something to be desired, very dry, piney finish.

D: I keep saying it but this really tasted like a pine tree. There was also no suggestion of the oatmeal, I mainly ordered this out of a curiosity for what an "oatmeal pale ale" would taste like but was left pretty underwhelmed, not sure what makes this pale ale different than any other, maybe they just liked the name--but if that's the case it is rather misleading. And the carbonation was disapppointingly low, seems like a pattern for this brewery. It kind of makes me wonder if they have faulty kegging technology. Anyhoo, I'm less impressed with this than the smoked porter.

Cloudy orange color with a massive head that last a long while (pour this one very gently!), leaving globs of suds on the side of the glass. Maybe the stickiness is from the oatmeal?

Very yeasty aroma - fruity, spicy, citrus, a lot of banana. I suppose the hops may contribute some, but the nose seems to just scream yeast character.

The same yeasty notes dominate the flavor. The sharpness of the yeast is balanced by a creaminess from the oatmeal. A bit sweet.

Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Overall a refreshing beer. A lot more like a Belgian pale ale than an American one.

Smells like bananas. At what temp did the bottles condition at? Estery - Aunt Ester estery. Smells like one of my homebrew screw-ups when I failed to control my bottle conditioning temperature. I hate you sometimes, Aunt Ester.

Big creamy head that looked good, if not a bit dirty, and I could not smell many of the hops. At least they're there. Somebody said they're Citra, so I'll go with that.

Cream-sicle mouthfeel, and I like that. It's pretty to look at at first, but the second pour was uber-cloudy and on the unappetizing side. It was gold in color before it got dirty witht he yeast and hops and whatnot.

Had on tap at the Austin Flying Saucer

A - Slightly hazy copper will only the faintest hint of what was once a head, though I suspect this is more the result of the environment (packed Saucer, busy bartenders, busy waitresses) than the beer itself.

S - Light to moderate citrusy hop aroma with nutty, bready malt character. Slight aroma of band aid phenol.

T - Good American hop flavor and bitterness for a Pale Ale, not too over the top. Interesting balance with the malt character and the unique twist of the oats. Unfortunately, the band aid phenol is more present than in the aroma, so I had to knock it a little bit.

M - Has the nice "soft" mouthfeel I expect from a pale ale with a unique creaminess from the oats. Very nice.

D - Quite sessionable though the band aid would keep me from drinking too many.

Good effort from this new Texas brewery, looking forward to more by them.

I previously had this beer on draft and recently had it from the bottle and all I can say is it's not as I remembered. There are definitely carbonation issues with the bottles. Way too carbonated, you can tell from the pour and the taste which throws the mouthfeel off a little. Overall the beer itself is decent and something new. The oatmeal adds a creamy, nuttiness to what would be nothing more then an average pale ale. The citra hops shine through but somewhat clash with the oatmeal taste. Overall, not bitter at all just a light fruity tasting pale ale with a creamy texture.
