I keep looking for this one. I had it a long time ago but remember how much I liked the smell and the smoky taste. It's not making it to the DFW area anymore or I'm not looking in the right place. Keep looking.

i thought this beer was very good, mesquite smoke seems like a perfect texas twist for a classic porter like this, but also one that could be tricky, bold enough generally speaking to overtake the beer, but it never does, delightfully restrained, and even on a warm sunny day, this beer never feel too big or like too much for pint drinking. deep dark brown, matte, with a short almost white head on it, looks good in the glass and holds is head. smells as much roasty as it does smoked to my surprise, thought it might be all smoke, but there is a deep coffee almost charred bitterness to it that i really like, independent of the smoke. some light crystal malt sweetness in the middle to balance, and then the earthy smoke, a dark chocolate wash, and perhaps an english ale yeast twang to the finish, slight astringency but its not a problem. i like the way this warms up, i like the well layered malt, and i like the body not being too heavy for what it is, just big enough to support all the grain flavor but not be filling, smartly built really. not as complex as some, but it doesnt need to be. a drinkable porter with a little texas flare. very enjoyable.

Great smoked beer with an excellent balance between the chocolate malts and mesquite smoke. The Texas wood is a lot more interesting than your typical smoke, with an earthy, extra meaty tang. Go find a bottle.

It tastes ultra carbonated. Instant bloated feeling. Delicious otherwise though.

Undated bottle at 45 degrees into hand-washed and dried Ranger Creek nonic
Aroma of smoke – I’ll take their word that it’s mesquite
Head large (5 cm, aggressive pour), light brown, fizzy/frothy, rapidly diminishing to 3 mm ring and layer
Lacing good – complete rings of tiny bubbles
Body dark brown, opaque
Flavor of smoke and roasted malt; no hops, no alcohol, no diacetyl; leaves my lips slightly sticky
Palate medium to full, creamy, soft carbonation
Appearance 4, Aroma 4, Flavor 4, Palate 4.25, Overall 4

Hopefully got extra'd a bad bottle - completely over-carbonated, which prevented being able to enjoy the flavors they attempted to present here.

Was scared of the mesquite flavor, but glad I overcame my misconception.
