On tap at Red's Porch.

Firstly, I wouldn't call this a Belgian Strong Pale, not at 5.5%. I think it could sit comfortably in the Belgian Pale category.

A. It comes as a pale golden colour with no head, but that could just be because of the glass. It's always difficult to grade a beer's appearance when you haven't washed the glass yourself.

S. Lots of candi sugar and honey in the aroma along with some typical Belgian spice. Some sweet tropical fruits too.

T. Definitely very Belgian here. Not as sweet as the nose might have suggested, but the sweetness is evident. More fruit flavours, muted and subtle. In fact the beer is very understated, which is no bad thing at all. It opens up nicely as it warms.

M. Light to medium bodied, a bit flat, but I don't have a problem with that. Dry finish.

O. On a hot day I could see me drinking a few of these. It's a good thirst quencher and nicely sessionable at 5.5%. The Belgian character asserts itself but there's almost a witbier aspect to the beer in its lightness and lack of presumption. Oh dear God, I sound like a wine critic. Nice beer, Ranger Creek.

On tap at the Whip In.

The beer pours a clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a good bit of Belgian yeast, as well as some sweet biscuit malt. The flavor is very similar. The yeast notes come through strongly, as does a hint of citrus and some biscuit and pale malts. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

On tap at Hay Merchant. Certainly not a Strong Ale at 5.5 ABV. That should be changed.

A: Pours a clear light golden/yellow color. A two finger white head forms and gently recedes. Light watery lace is left behind.
S: Yeast and fruity esters. Banana and light bubblegum aromas. Light spicy phenols. Not much else.
T: Follows the nose with spicy phenols, fruity esters, and bubblegum flavors.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Crisp and dry. Easy to drink. I put one away, and could of had another.

There is really nothing wrong with this, it is just a bit standard. Overall enjoyable, but not one of the better Belgian styles in Texas.

I had this one at the Esquire in San Antonio. It was served in a standard pint; the beer is a chill hazed dark yellow with a semi-sticky white head.

Nose of light milled grains and a bit of citrus.

Taste is in the wheel house for the style. Mild hopping layered over some semi-sweet grains. There is a bit of lemon rind late. It has no off or odd notes and appears to be well kept.

The mouth is slightly slick with low carbonation. Easy enough drinker.

This pours a cloudy golden color with a thin, tight layer of foam atop it.

It has a floral aroma with hints of bubblegum and banana notes. Lightly flavored, almost delicate, even, with a quick finish. It’s pleasantly carbonated and dare I say refreshing on a warm spring day.
