what is wrong with you! this one apparently is understated. i think the halo and pitchfork effect is taking place- that is, others rate it poorly and others feel they should probably rate it poorly also. get real! i traded a Russian RIver Consecration for this for the amazing hospitality that was shown to me at Craft & Growler in Dallas, TX. I am not regretting it one bit as I drink it now and am watching Futurama. Again- get real!

Not a whole lot of red going on. It's more brown than red but then again I'm colorblind (ha!). Not a whole lot of head that sticks around, just a bit of a ring as it gets lower on my Cigar City snifter. Kind of underwhelming as far as looks go. It gets made up for with aroma. Smells rich, bretty and smoky- very enticing! Flavor does not disappoint, despite being a bit thin. There is a slight off flavor of butterscotch, though, but I do enjoy a tiny bit. Toffee, brett, a bit of barrel, caramel comes through. It's very, very tasty!

Bottled: 7-2 -2013

Appearance
A thick/rich looking non-transparrent medium earthy brown. Any head to speak of relatively white/off white in color and quickly dissipating

Nose
Tart fruit, banana, red apple, almost has a red wine nose

Palate
Very tart, light mouthfeel and easy drinking. Slight alcohol note, fruit, cherries, figs, yeast, sherry that ends with a slightly tart and aged fruit finish.

Overall
This beer has a wild and interesting blend of tart fruit and ale characters, it is light yet slammed with flavor . The sour elements aren’t over the top but rather add dynamic and are surprisingly refreshing. Batch No. 6 won the 2013 Bronze at the World Beer Championships and for good reason.

Slightly better than the ratings would lead you to believe although a touch of oxidization from the bottle 7/2013. Overall a deep mahogany pour with a dark fruit tangy smell with a hint of oxidization. Taste follows the nose on the dark fruit side, touch of cherry raspberry and oak. Bit of leather in the taste . Feel is fairly easy to drink me nice depth

Pour is a murky copper with hues of red and a thin amount of light brown head. Nose is dark fruits, hint of dry oak, acetic acid, and light musk, slightly moldy bread. Taste is bready with a light mold to it, some dark berry fruits, leathery brett and faintly acetic finish. Soft carbonation on a medium body with a fuzzy feel.

Poured into a slim pint glass.

A: Pours a slightly hazy amber with almost no head.
S: Definitely the smell of a red flanders, but
T: Very earthy sour from the lactobacillus strain (along with the brett and pedio). A decent red flanders, but with more complex flavors with the extra yeast and ferm time.
M: A little chewiness from the tart elements, with a lingering sour.
O: A very different beer, but I did enjoy it and appreciate what ranger creek is doing here. Look forward to aging the other 3 bottles to see what cellaring/aging will do.
