Poured from a bomber into a half-pint chalice.
A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with a retreating residue of small off-white bubbles. Moderate lacing remains on the glass.
S: Herbaceous spice; caramel candy suggestive of underattenuation. Whisky is present, which adds to overall spirituous quality without being overpowering.
T: Begins very off-dry, with crystal malt and spicy but monotonous hop aromatics. Acidity is moderate into the middle some oak accompanies more straight malt. Bitterness is fairly pronounced in the finished, unaccompanied save for a spot of drying oak. Alcohol flavor is restrained but consistent throughout.
M: Medium viscosity, syrupy on the palate, with low carbonation.
D/O: A predictable effort, with bold presence, but really defined by its lack of inventive qualities. It leaves no doubt that it was interred in a spirit barrel but post-barrel dry-hopping is questionable. This beer has all of the ham-fisted excesses of a fan-boy homage to the strong ales of Lagunitas.
