A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a copper color and a cloudy consistency. There was an inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Pretty good lacing.

S: An average aroma of rye, malt, and hops. Not very surprising.

T: Tasted of grassy hops, malt, rye, and a little caramel as well. The combination of the grassy hops and an overall thinness make for a less than interesting flavor.

M: A decent amount of carbonation with a watery finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Not the greatest example of a rye-infused IPA. Could have been better than it was.

"Like a fine piece of art, 'Mosaic' Red Rye IPA is masterfully created by using 100% Mosaic hops throughout the brew. With its aesthetically pleasing ruby red color and spatial depth from the rye malt, this hand crafted masterpiece leaves your palate's canvas open to interpretation." Brewed in the style of an American Rye IPA with a focus on Mosaic hops. Initially released in March 2013 as side project 19 "Mosaic", this recipe was subtly altered to become a spring seasonal, released in 2014. Available in 12 oz. 4 packs and on seasonal draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Terrapin snifter. Served upwards of 55º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a thick, creamy head of a caramel cream complexion over a robust burgundy maple body, with high clarity and moderate carbonation. Retention is very good, lacing is light and spotty. 4.25

(Smell) Mosaic hops are incredibly versatile, generating a citrusy grapefruit bouquet with tropical fruit undertones rounding out with a mild herbal and pine touch. Bitterness is moderate. The malt profile compliments well, there's a pleasing malt aroma to pair, with clean, bready rye malt and moderately toasted caramel grain for a subtle crystallized sweetness. Altogether it is a filling yet approachable aroma, led by an eccentric hop choice. 4

(Taste) The flavor has a slightly more modest hop character, with slighter grapefruit and more enhanced floral, herbaceous and peppery hop characters, although there remains a significant tropical fruit profile to enjoy, and this is likely the most notable hop note to pick upon. Bitterness is medium at boldest. The malt profile lends some complexity with a slight grainy rye, husky caramel and a mild complimentary sweetness. Despite some expected complexity with specialty malts in this Rye-based beer, it comes off as a very quaffable ale, with an appreciated reasonable ABV devoid of any palate-wrenching bitterness nor cloying sweetness. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick with a mild thickness and mildly dry. Carbonation generates a subtle touch of air for a soft crispness. Body is medium for an American Rye IPA and shy of medium overall. Balance is slightly bitter over sweet, while the bitterness is mellow, the malt bill reveals a moderate depth of character but keeps rather tame on the sweetness level. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters to note. 3.75

(Overall) I didn't find this beer too far removed from its genesis in Side Project #19, so this review is fairly similar. The Mosaic hop is an incredible hop choice for this beer, generating multiple aromas and flavors than an assemblage of hops couldn't duplicate. The malt profile keeps things subtle but is reminiscent of the style. I hope more breweries jump on board of the potential that this excellent hop variety makes, but in the meantime, advise that you enjoy this beer at your first opportunity. 3.75
