A: slightly hazy yellow, with robust head that sustains well with good lacing

S: orange, melon, little clay-like earthiness

T/M: follows nose, little more melon in the taste than orange. There is also a grassy bitterness that comes in and the combination is almost like eating whole fresh flowers. The bitter turns towards a dirt-dry taste. The feel is just a bit thin.

O: this has an overall feel of a session IPA, although the ABV is straddling the threshold leaning towards the regular. It is touted as a west coast IPA, so the up front bitterness is not a surprise, but I personally am missing some body in this beer.

A: Pours a lightly hazy orange color with a tall, thick head of orange-tinted foam. Head retention is very good, and a nice lattice of lacing adheres to the glass as the head recedes.

S: It certainly smells like a West Coaster. Malt aromas are light and sweet, with a faint drizzling of caramel character. Hop aromas are vibrantly citric and tropical, with notes of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, and peach. A bit of herbal tone is also noticeable in the background.

T: Lightly sweet maltiness, with mild caramel flavor. Hop bitterness is sharp but not overwhelming, leaving plenty of room for the hop flavors to shine through. As the nose suggests, there are big citric and tropical flavors here: orange and grapefruit fit the West Coast character nicely, and some notes of tropical and stone fruits also come through. A secondary wave of primarily herbal bitterness leads into the finish.

M: Medium-light body. Moderate carbonation and assertive hop bitterness lead to a crisp, dry finish.

O: This is a very good IPA from Terrapin. Beers like this make the term West Coast seem more stylistic than geographic, in a welcome fashion.
