Bottle to snifter.
Appearance: thin black-brown. Medium white head.
Aroma: all pepper.
Taste: pepper and some cocoa and coffee. Like a spicy mole sauce.
Feel: a little thin.
Nice beer. Something is missing, but I am enjoying the spiciness on a cold windy day at the shore. Really is some Crazy Shit.

Bomber poured into a snifter.
2.75 A: Muddy dark brown color. Half a finger of short lived frothy tan head. No lacing is left.
3.75 S: Wow, the chilies in here are potent, probably more so than any other commercial beer I've ever had. Lots of vegetal pepper and nearly as much fudgy chocolate. Supple roasted barley, cinnamon, and date-like fruitiness. Really intense and supremely interesting.
3.75 T: Like the nose, big chili vegetal flavor. Mild, but not insignificant heat. Fudge, sweet chocolate, cinnamon, moderately sweet neutral maltiness. Nondescript dark fruitiness.
3.75 M: Medium to heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Somewhat velvety with a mild creaminess.
3.75 D: Really interesting beer. Not an everyday beer, but good enough to scratch the chili beer itch.

"Like a pinata bursting at the seams, Guano Loco 'Chili Pepper Brownie Ale" explodes with flavor from a myriad of directions. Chocolaty sweetness melds brilliantly with spicy heat to make this beer a fiesta in your glass... Ole'" Brewed in the style of an American Porter. Side Project entry number 23, available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a crisp creamy head of a golden brown hue over a ruby-brown tone body with light carbonation and abundant fine sediment in tow. Retention is good and lacing is light and spotty. 4
(Smell) Vegetal chili pepper aromas forward, spicy and pervasive with a robust and sweet chocolate cake malt backbone. A slight step down from the richness and complexity of increasingly popular Mexican style imperial stouts, but still nicely balanced. Potency is high. 3.75
(Taste) Dry chocolate flavor with a reserved sweetness and richness to it, far less prevalent and decadent than the aroma may have suggested. Little to no hop character discernible, very clean drinking aside from the chili pepper which serves as a mild but welcome distraction with a moderate tingle from the burn that lingers beyond the finish. Highly drinkable with a light yet appropriate body for the style of American Porters, it certainly would fall short against stouts. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) Texture is silky, slick, clean, medium dry. Carbonation is mild, generating a mild frothiness and a modestly crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium+ overall. Balance is slightly peppery spicy over sweet. Alcohol presence is light and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) I enjoyed Guano Loco as an accessible entry in the side project series, and a decent usage of chili peppers alongside a chocolate and caramel malt backbone which is a bit underwhelming, or certainly a notch short of being confused with a "brownie", but in consideration for the drinkability and delivery of this ale, I was glad it wasn't syrupy thick or cloyingly sweet, and the main flavors did a solid enough job to make a notable impact on the finished product. One of those creative styles "in limbo", but one worthy of exploring. 3.75

22 oz bottle. very dark brown, good head retention. chocolately aroma. the taste pretty much hits the mark of the label "chili brownie". Definitely good chocolate flavor with a mild tingle of chili pepper. full bodied. overall - interesting concept and it worked.
