Appearance: Pitch black, no lasting head.

Aroma: A first sniff I was pretty convinced I was going to be drinking wake-n-bake. But further sniffs confirmed it was a sharper espresso coffee character with a chocolate background, and no oats.

Flavor: Chocolate is more upfront than it is on the nose. Espresso is in the background, but still a main character. Very smooth coffee flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and sweet finish.

I have no idea why I hung onto this 2016 bottle for so long but I did! Tried it a few days ago and found it to be very nice. I have nothing to compare it to for a later bottle but this was smooth, tasty and I thought very well brewed. I liked the espresso taste especially. It took me awhile to even find it on BA to rate it but I finally did on the “all” button.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 16.9 oz. bottle into a J. Wakefield Brewing OG teku glass.

A: Opaque, very dark brown to black, with a low amount of visible carbonation. A half-finger cap of tan head forms with decent retention.

S: Dark chocolate and roasted coffee up front – no surprise there. Cacao nibs and lactose sweetness, vanilla and heavily roasted malts. Notes of tobacco and malted milk balls. Nice.

T: Dark-roast coffee and cacao, vanilla and lactose. Dark malts with a fair amount of roasty bitterness. More drying tobacco under the sweet creamy lactose. It finishes near balanced, with lingering roasted coffee.

M: Overall a heavy body, but a little lighter than some milk stouts. Low carbonation but average for style. The alcohol presence is hidden quite well.

O: Pretty enjoyable. I don’t remember what I paid for it, but as a smaller format bottle that they still chose to wax, I'd imagine it was more than I’d pay for it again. But it’s a solid “imperial” milk stout with good chocolate/coffee balance and nice roastiness.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense two finger light tan head which fades very slowly leaving some lacing
S: Smells of chocolate covered espresso beans and that's it
T: Taste is coffee and chocolate with some nice roasted malt notes. huge milk chocolate and coffee continue to be the highlight of this beer with some lactose sweetness. Swallow is more coffee and chocolate with a slight milky sweetness and lingering roasted malt notes.
M: This beer is one the medium side of things in body. Carbonation is adequate for the style as well while the beer has a slightly drying finish.
O: Overall this is probably the best of the series that I have tried. Great flavors and some decent complexity make this one an interesting drink. This one should become a regular offering over some of the others they have tried.

Look is near black with 2 fingers of dark khaki head.

Aroma is big coffee, chocolate and lactose. Nice.

Taste follows nose. Big dark coffee, some chocolate and then more coffee with some malt/lactose.

Feel is smooth and full.

Overall a nice take on an imperial milk stout. Glad I got the chance to try it.
