12oz bottle (Vintage09AA) received as an extra in a trade with jophish17. Thanks for the chance to try this one. Poured into a Portsmouth goblet.
A - Pours a yeasty deep brown with amber highlights and a low, loose off white soda-like head that disappears almost immediately.
S - Great, fresh grapefruity citrus aroma here. Some nice caramelly malt settles in behind the hops and meshes with the slightest hint of alcohol in the aroma. Hops are the star here and don't disappoint.
T - Good hop bitterness, but not overpowering. Lots of citrusy hops - primarily grapefruity flavors. Some pineapple flavors and a bit of spicyness from the hops too. Caramel, grainy flavors, some alcohol, and bready flavors blend and balance. Still, quite a bitter beers and definitely balanced towards the hops.
M - Medium bodied, maybe tending towards the thinner side of things. Nice carbonation, plenty there, but gives a nice rounded creamy sort of feel as the bubbles seem to evenly coat the tongue. Hops leave their mark in the aftertaste, lingering a good long time and enticing another sip.
D - Some alcohol apparent, but not overwhelming, still 8.3% is pretty high to be sessionable. Very good tasting beer and well rounded. Would like to have another one of these some time in the future. Not quite up to the enjoyment I get from Nugget Nectar, but definitely a very good beer and worth seeking out.
