Terrapine Wake-n-Bake is very highly coffee'd imperial stout. As soon as you open it, it smells like a fresh cup of dark roasted espresso. This coffee is probably what makes the beer even darker than the darkest stouts. The head is even reminiscent of the color of cappuccino foam. The beer is definitely coffee-heavy and there is a lot of caramel and malt sweetness that comes through that makes this hard to drink a lot of especially when I usually drink my coffees black and like dryer stouts. The oatmeal and lower carbonation contributes a lot of silkiness and smoothness on the tongue that is very nice. A little more attentuated, slightly restrained on the coffee and this could have been just about perfect on-par with FBS. But as it is, it just falls a little bit short.

12 oz bottle of 2013 poured into a shaker pint.

A: Pitch black body with a coffee colored one-finger head. not a lot of lacing or retention.

S: Coffee dominates the nose with hints of chocolate.

T: Taste just like an iced coffee, with some chocolate and oatmeal on the back end.

M: Creamy body leaving just a tinge of coffee bitterness.

O: Excellent imperial stout, would defiantly buy again.

Pours black with ruby edges and a half-finger of tan head that retains nicely. Ground black coffee dominates the nose, which also has dark chocolate, toasted oats, raisins, and a hint of vanilla. I taste a lot of dark chocolate up front with some vanilla and caramel, then coffee on the back end with roasted malts. The flavor profile is great and the beer really evolves in the mouth, but I get an astringency from the roasted malts that detracts from the taste. The body is on the full side of medium with medium carbonation.
