look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3

Appearance: Pours a thick black like burnt motor oil. Forms a nice dark tan head maybe 3 inches. Head fades quickly in a minute or so and forms an espresso like creme. No lacing and only the wispy ring around the edge as it further rests.

Aroma: Aroma of chocolate and coffee prevail and give way to a slight milky sweet aroma as it continues to warm.

Taste: Tastes like cold coffee. Hop bitterness is hard to determine from the amount of burnt taste and aroma. Not iced coffee but that cup of coffee that got left out a little too long. Bitter black malt flavors with an acidity (probably from the dark roasted malt).

Mouthfeel: Thin with good carbonation however the carbonation seems to feel forced and fake. Sweetness in aroma is hard to find in the flavor. This might possible be better on nitro to add some creaminess.

Drinkability: It was mildly drinkable. I wouldn't particular choose this over any of the 100's of better options. I think for the money I would rather have a nice cup of coffee. For me it was a swing and a miss. I would say try it for yourself but don't go out of the way to find it.

Bottle shared by Curran. Thanks man!

Pours a thin looking watery black, with a small quarter inch head, and not much lacing.

Smells incredibly strongly of nutty roasted coffee, with roasted malt, and baker's chocolate.

This has one of the strongest coffee flavors in a stout that I've ever had, but it's also nicely integrated, as well. Creamy chocolate and vanilla flavor- slightly bitter chocolate chip flavor, with Hershey's syrup, a cookies and cream flavor, and a very small amount of hop bitterness.

This one is medium bodied, but I wish it was a little thicker. Low carbonation, creamy, very smooth mouthfeel.

A real classic that I'm glad I'm finally getting to try for the 1st time.

12 oz. bottle with "VINTAGE08" stamped under the Enjoy By date, which makes this six and a half years old. Note that BA lists this at 9.4%, but the bottle says 8.1, perhaps a change over the years since this was bottled. Poured into a Surly Darkness tulip a thick motor oil-like texture with a dark brown, almost black color. A finger of light brown head quickly dissipates but leaves substantial lacing.

I always get nervous when opening a beer this old, but this one has thankfully escaped the evil grips of oxidation. The most noticeable aroma is, unsurprisingly, coffee. Toffee, nuts, brown sugar/molasses, and roasted malts.

The flavor is primarily sweet, though not cloying. Coffee is very evident, but hardly dominating. Thick, complex malts provide quite the background. A very Anglo toffee flavor combines with demerara sugar and molasses, but all are quite subdued... whether that is a product of excellent design, aging, or both I don't know. Nuttiness from the oats combines with bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, and the previously mentioned sweeter malts to give it a very complex profile. Slight lactic creaminess/sourness. Complex bittersweet finish.

Full bodied and low carbonation. Thick, chewy, and feels like I'm gargling a much tastier motor oil. Filling, but clean. Slight alcohol warmth and very creamy from the oats.

This is a truly amazing beer. Very complex profile and the perfect smooth and creamy finish. I don't know how it tastes fresh, but in your cellar for six years this thing is incredible.
