2014 Vintage. Nice ruddy pour that collects midnight black in the glass. Light does manage to shine through however, light tan bubbles make up a thin layer covering the surface. Smelling this beer, you get a lot of cold brewed coffee, medium roast, some of the coffee's acidity, milk chocolate, vanilla, green olives, sweet pastry. Mouth feel was on the lower end of medium. I wanted slightly more chew to go along with the boldness of the aroma. Taste was very coffee dominant and in a good way, but that was pretty much all I was getting. There wasn't a lot of complexity being contributed from the malts, other than mild hints of chocolate and molasses sweetness. A nice, smooth example of an imperial coffee stout. This was the last bottle from a 4 pack and I don't get Terrapin distribution, but I'm ever so grateful that I can pick up a Founders breakfast stout nearly all year round, instead.

2014 Vintage
Pours a dark motor oil black with a thin brown head
Smells of coffee, mixed with dark chocolate and roasted malts
The feel is medium and would have liked it to be a bit either thicker or fuller.
The taste is slight coffee and dark chocolate with a lingering roasted bitterness on the after taste.

Purchased in 02.05.2015, sat in fridge until 09.17.2015 when opened. Weak smell, thick pour, strong boozy taste, dark coffee grind taste with thick molasses and alcohol. Shit was a hitter, but soothing in flavor. Almost like a laquer.

Appropriately pitch black, with a thin tan head, this stout looks great. There's some very light carbonation present as well. The nose is complex and intriguing, with toasted caramel, grains, dark fruits, brewed coffee, baker's chocolate, and perhaps a little booze. I find the flavor to be one of the most coffee-forward brews I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It's nearly a coffee beverage first, beer second. After a closer consideration however, I can appreciate the way the oatmeal grain meshes with the coffee flavor, it's so smooth and a little sweet, too. The perfect pairing. The mouthfeel is quite thick, and generally the alcohol content is relatively noticeable. Overall, a uniquely satisfying beer in this genre, definitely worth trying!

Vintage 2014.

Nearly black. Big shimmering tan head. Freshly brewed dark roast coffee on the nose with a subtle pepper aroma. Silky smooth texture. Coffee flavor dominates with the peppery presence offsetting it. Strange, different, solid.

Dark black beer with minimal head (from a very vigorous pour, mind you). Smells like chocolate, coffee, and possibly a little vanilla. There is a strange cooling sensation when the nostrils breathe in the smell. Smell lingers throughout the beer's entirety. Tastes of a little chocolatey with the most prominent flavor being the coffee. Hop bitterness does a good job of mimicking black coffee. The feel of this beer is a little rough around the edges, I would say; creamy at first but then comes boozy heat. A pretty solid beer, but there are definitely better representations of this style out there.

2014 vintage. By the time you read this, I will be on my way back to the store to get more. Wife found out, so I had to share. Poured pitch black (into my mini Kane snifter) with a thin ring of cocoa-tinged head and some hazy froth on top. Very coffee forward on the nose, hint of green pepper skin, and rounded out my some sweet dark fruit notes. All comes together very nicely, and moves to the stratosphere as the glass warms up. BIG appealing nose. Big time coffee presence on the front of the palate with a hint of bitterness also provided by said coffee. Very nice choice of local coffee to use in this special brew. Noticeable alcohol on the end of the sip, but not overpowering at all. Again, dark fruit notes round out the profile nicely. Nice, rich mouthfeel. Oats anyone? I guess with a beer like this, the question begs 'how does it stand up to FBS?' I thought that this was easily on par with FBS, and I even liked the coffee aspect a little more. Unique, and well-crafted brew. Get some, just not at my local store!

A: Walnut brown with swirls of black. Decent mocha head, but not glamorous.

S: Oats, dark roast coffee, raisins/prune, dark and white chocolate. Evokes dark rum. A fast, sharp smelling beer that jolts the drinker's appetite.

M: Med to full body. Semi smooth. Brisk coffee. Could be described as juicy at times.

T: Sweet raisins, espresso dusted chocolate; cinnamon. Blackberry; slightly sour, slightly tannic.

Vintage 2014
Aromas of coffee, chocolate and a touch of sweet booze -wonderful. Taste is of a little more subdued coffee and chocolate, roasted malts and chewy. I will have to try this fresh and also the French toast version.

Vintage 2014 poured into nonic glass. Appears dark with some light trying to find its way through the edge, nice mocha head and some lacing. Smells of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit. Taste is similar to smell, lots of coffee, oatmeal comes in as it warms. Getting all the notes they were going for. Mouthfeel, this brew feels medium full but covers your teeth, also chewy. Overall I was very glad my local store had this, love the bottle and name. If you come across this don't pass it up, I will try to age one or two but it could be challenging. Will be searching for one of their French toasted wake and bake for sure.

Pours inky black with a thin brown head. Dark-roasted coffee, cream and chocolate on the nose, with some dark fruits in the background. The coffee hits first in the taste, then a creamy mouthfeel with creamy flavor notes, and chocolate in the aftertaste. It may not be at the very top of the style, but it's up there.

Look: Solid dark-brown body in the glass. Pillowy soft looking and sticky mocha head.
Smell: Coffee and cream with four or more lumps of sugar.
Taste: Day old coffee, but not in a bad way, with stout characteristics. Medium roast, bitterness that smoothly fades. No clean finish. The finish reminds me of after I take a sip of coffee. Good and bad.
Feel: I don't feel anything...at least nothing that makes me think "yum." On second thought, there is a little nice carbonation and body.

Overall - I marked this up due to the fact that the coffee does dominate. I feel like I have coffee breath. I do not even detect oatmeal, just coffee, plus I want more mouthfeel. This somewhat reminds me of Sump. This is Sumps little brother...from another mother.

Pours a rich dark brown. Smallish dark khaki colored head which dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing behind. Completely opaque.

Rich dark coffee aroma. Almost espresso-like. Dark, semi-sweet chocolate. Roasted malt, sweet cream, and hazelnut(??).

Lovely coffee flavors. Dark roast, just a hint of bitterness, some sweetness on the back end. Rich roasted malt and dark chocolate balance the coffee. Hints of smoke, peat, licorice. Sweet cream.

Creamy, almost luscious, mouth feel. Medium-thick body with moderate carbonation. Slight bitterness to start transforms to a lingering sweetness.

This a fantastic coffee stout. Founder's Breakfast Stout is considered the standard to measure others of this style and WnB compares extremely favorably. Wonderful.

Hate regular coffee. Have drank other coffee/choc stouts that were very drinkable. This is by FAR the worst. Complete crap. Must be coffee with booze heavily infused. On that note, I suggest u try it at least once.

Rich dark chocolate and coffee dominate the aroma, with fairly sweet, almost sugary notes complementing. The oat nuttiness adds depth. Smells like an iced coffee with dark chocolate and a touch of liquor.

Flavor is sweet, with a roasted malt backbone throughout, and coffee beans rounding out the moderately bitter finish. Oats provide nice chewiness. Chocolate complements the coffee and roast malt nicely. Fairly hot. After this sits around a bit, the coffee becomes secondary to rich chocolate, and heat subsides.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of coffee, some hints of chocolate. Taste is totally dominated by coffee, a bit of alcohol is present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer, especially for coffee lovers, but I was expecting more due to it's high ratings.

A - Pours black with a big caramel colored head that shrinks pretty quickly.
S - Coffee, chocolate & vanilla
T - Nice coffee flavor
M - Medium mouth feel, low carbonation
O - Good stout, coffee is straightforward, I could see having this with a doughnut on a Saturday morning.

Appearance: Black and opaque with a finger of brown head that dissipates very quickly

Smell: Espresso, vanilla, slight dark fruits

Taste: It really is like sippin your favorite cup o' joe

Mouthfeel: Full bodied stout right here

Overlall: This is the most coffee forward stout I've had. Wonderful espresso aromas and overall quite akin to sippin a quality cup of black coffee

A - Extremely dark brown. Very minimal head that is a creamy brown color. Completely opaque.

S - Coffee, coffee, coffee! Some sweet dark fruits. Chocolate.

T - Sweet chocolate start. Followed by an oatyness that turns into a coffee taste. Finish is a bit bitter/hoppy with some malt. Strong alcohol presence.

M - Fairly smooth, very heavy, lots of burn.

O - Pretty solid stout. Nice and heavy. A little bit sweet, lots of coffee, and not overly bitter.

12oz bottle poured into tall stout snifter. A sliver of red peeks out beneath an opaque black beer. A finger of tan head quickly recedes to a thin ring of tiny bubbles and a small central island. Aroma is a blast of coffee with roast malt, solvent, booze, and bakers chocolate. A vanilla element grows as the beer warms. Taste is coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, and some molasses sweetness followed by a big pinch of char and leafy hop bitterness on the finish. Full body, creamy, thick, mouth-coating texture thanks to the oatmeal, soft but complimentary carbonation, and a surprisingly abrupt finish. Phantoms of coffee and wisps of booze linger, but it takes a little searching. Very enjoyable after an afternoon of snow day sledding.

Poured from bottle, black with no head. Nice coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Tastes of smooth coffee with a light sweetness of chocolate and malt. Feel was a little flat, but smooth and highly drinkable. Getting better as it warms up, lessening the booziness.

Dark black beer with a two finger brown head.

Nose: Dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, pumpernickel, milk, oatmeal and vanilla.
Taste: Coffee, like newbrew coffe in the morning, dark chocolate, dark bread, roasted malt, homemaid, vanilla ice cream and raisin.
A full body with a hint of carbonation.

A really easy drinking imperial stout!

2013 edition

A: poured into a snifter to a very viscous black beer topped by a finger of dense tan head that fades quickly to a small collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: smells of loads of coffee some roasted malts and a little chocolate
T: taste is coffee, roasted malts, and chocolate chocolate. very smooth and well blended flavors with the swallow bringing more roasted malt, toasted marshmallow, coffee and a little more chocolate
M: full and creamy on the palate with a nice mouthfeel from the oats. carbonation is soft from bottle conditioning and feels perfect. the finish on this beer is just slightly drying
O: a very good beer with great flavors and complexity. I'm sure the coffee shined a little brighter when it was fresh but it aged very well. definitely one to try if you like coffee stouts.
