I had a 10 ounce pour on draft. It was served a little colder than probably desired.

A: A nice dark rich color with a finger of chocolate colored frothy head.

S: Nice and roasty. All coffee in the nose a light chocolate hint once you get past the coffee.

T: On the first few sips this was coffee and nothing else. As the beer warmed a bit I started to get notes of other flavors, mainly chocolate creaminess. By the end of the beer it was probably about the correct serving temp and it reminded me of an oatmeal cookie with a side of coffee or dipped in coffee.

M: Smooth, Rich, creamy

I would say if you like a dark roast coffee you will like this beer.

Straight pour from a 12oz pry-off bottle to a short, stubby tulip glass; bottling date of . . . well, it says “SEASONAL: 2013” on the far side of the label, and it looks like they put this out in late November/early December so that’d make this bottle about, oh, two months old.

Appearance (3.5): A finger and a half of hot cocoa-colored foam comes off of the pour, capping a jet-black body—but it doesn’t last too long, dissipating to a thin film on the surface. Not much in the way of lacing . . . as in, basically none.

Smell (4.5): Rich, thick coffee and chocolate aromas are strong here, like when you mix a packet of cocoa powder into a fresh cup of coffee—medium roast coffee with slight fruit tones and some rich earth underneath a very light char and smoke. Also some rich chocolate syrup and malt (like malt balls malt) are in there. Outstanding.

Taste (4.5): Following the nose, there’s medium-roast coffee (earthy, moderately fruity, and floral underneath the roast), creamy, rich chocolate (not too sweet, not too bitter, but definitely dark and rich, like dark chocolate mousse), citrusy and floral tones (candied orange peel, fresh-cut flowers, and a bit of lemon peel) which could either be hops or the coffee, and underneath it all there’s some smooth malt character from the oats, lending a combination of earthy, brown-sugar sweet breadiness (like oatmeal cookies). It’s chilling out there beneath all that coffee and chocolate, but it adds an excellent depth and acts as an outstanding base for the coffee, citrus, and creamy chocolate components overhead. A modest booze note, but it fits the style well and blends in extremely well.

Mouthfeel (4.25): In terms of feel, it’s not exactly heavy but it is on the heavy- side of medium-weight, but very full, in its smooth creaminess. The booze dries it out a bit, but in the end it finishes relatively rich and creamy nonetheless. I’m not articulating this well, but suffice it to say that it has an excellent feel, even if it not’s quite unprecedented.

Overall (4.25): What an incredibly enjoyable beer. It’s got depth, it’s got complexity, it’s got body and character, it’s plenty bold, and it doesn’t sacrifice any of these things in the name of anything gimmicky. It doesn’t redefine the style or anything, but man oh man, I’m pretty sure it nails whatever it set out to do. Really, this is a quality, high-value Imperial Stout that could seriously convert neophytes to the dark side. For the value, this is absolutely worth seeking out.

Color is very dark, an agressive pour does not produce a head, Very nice sweet aroma of coffee. The coffee flavor is very strong, with hints of vanilla and chocolate . A very enjoyable Oatmeal Stout, Love to drink it in the morning or if I need a pick me up. Alcohol flavor is masked by the overpowering coffee flavor, which is amazing because it is around 9.4% alcohol content. Highly recommended. mIx with moo hoo chocolate milk stout for a capachino

2013 version.
Pours black with a very dark brown head.
Smell it faintly of coffee and some roasty bitterness.
Taste is so much lighter than the smell. slight coffee bitterness in the beginning and with a sweet sugary finish.
Thick and smooth. Overall an excellent Stout. This is definitely a got to have again beer.
