If you like flavored beers, then you have to try this. So many beers promise a certain flavor, but Terrapin really delivers this time. I wish I could have this for breakfast every morning.

It pours really dark, with a think creamy head. Has a pretty strong oatmeal, grain aroma.

I just wish I could find it more often.

2011 vintage. Received from sendbeer.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.
Pours a jet black with a thin khaki head, leave no lacing on the glass. Smell is divine. Smells of rich coffee and oats. I also get chocolate notes and vanilla. Taste is chocolate and coffee forward with sweetness as well. As it warms up I more of the alcohol taste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth. Not much carbonation to this one.

Overall this is a very well rounded beer and I can see why it is rated so highly. I'll be looking to trade for more of these.

Vintage 2011
Poured fairly pitch black, with a pinky finger of a rust-colored head.
Smells of chocolate and coffee, in a very nice way. And that powdery cocoa roast is there, not overpowering.
Tastes of nice and bitter burnt coffee, and, with a separate sip i picked up milk chocolate (darker).
A bitter, booziness leads the finish. But after each sip I start to see how well the coffee and malts help to balance everything so that it's not overly sweet.
I love coffee, so this brew is a natural fit for me. It's big though,  even for something barely above 8% abv.  I ate some dark chocolate covered coffee beans with a pint of this beer, and the beer stood through with it's flavors.

Thanks to Mecherd for sending me this!

12oz bottle poured into a Teku stemmed snifter. 2011 vintage

A: Jet black body with one finger of gorgeous dark brown head. Head dissipates at an average rate leaving virtually no cap and ring around the edge.

S: High quality black coffee. Something you wouldn’t dare taint with cream and sugar. A whiff of sweet molasses. There’s a slight roasted malt aroma but otherwise you might not even recognize it as beer in a blind sniff test.

T: Everything from the aroma is present, but add baker’s chocolate and pump up the molasses a touch. Most of any sweetness I get from the roasted malt just gets beat down by the bitterness of the coffee.

M: Medium body...a little light for an imperial stout, but not so much that I would ever call it thin. Mouthfeel (especially the finish) is a little on the syrupy side and that’s played up a bit by the sweet malt. Carb is on the low side which isn’t unusual for such a coffee-forward beer. Drinkability pretty high for what it is...not much alcohol burn to be found.

O: Coffee flavors often fade first in a beer, but that’s not much of a problem with Wake-N-Bake even though it’s approaching 1 year old. One of my top 5 favorite coffee beers. Unfortunately I have to trade to get it and I will continue to do so.
