vigorous pour produces a huge cascading dark mocha head that slowly recedes whilst leaving behind tons of lacing atop an opaque black beer.

tons of coffee, as expected, with a vanilla bean kick, roasted oats, toasted malts. lots of sugary caramel sweetness as well. an almost lactose sugar aroma as well.

creamy, creamy coffee with some vanilla bean and sweetened. roasted oats, light molasses. dark roasted, charred coffee is nicely balanced by the sweetness.

one of the creamiest beers I've had with a subtle carbonation that reminds you that you are drinking a beer and not a sweetened and heavily creamed iced coffee.

Definitely one of the better coffee/breakfast stouts out there without being over the top in any category, just perfectly balanced.

A: No head, just a couple of bubbles on top. Impenetrable brown-black. Dark, thick, viscous.

S: Mmmm...Delicious! Tons of roasted coffee, chocolate, malts, toasted grains. Sweet and a little bitter -- a little like cold coffee. So good! I could smell this all day.

T: Coffeeee. Bitter and roasted. Some grainy malts and chocolate again. With just enough sweetness to balance the bitterness. Very tasty.

M: Good, not the best. Smooth and thick. Hint of carbonation.

O: I like this beer. Very good. Definitely recommended.

A - pours a viscous opaque black. Very little tan head. Tight bubbles. Quickly dissipating. Some spotty lacing.

S - the nose is dominated by oily roasty coffee beans. The other arokas are faint. Some vaguely sweet maltyness, and some hints of chocolate.

T - sweet chocolate malts on the front end with hints of caramelized sugar. Coffee bitterness enters around center palate. Sweetness melds seemlessly. Sort of like black coffee with a touch of sugar. Some earthy notes on the back palate. Sort of hoppy and coffee bean mixture in the finish.

M - full bodied. But its slick, oily texture makes it much easier to sip.

O - very nice example of a coffee stout.

Thanks to businesstime for this great bottle!

Pours a midnight black color, well carbonated with off-white bubbles that lingered through the entire consumption

Aroma was nice, but a little confusing. The coffee flavor was absent (thus the confusion), but traditional stout characters were present- nuts, marshmallow, hint of oak/bourbon, and maybe some coffee in the background.

Taste really stole the show for this brew. There are not many hidden flavors- just unrelenting, crazy-good coffee. I have no idea how they packed this kind of flavor into the brew, but WOW. Without a double the best coffee stout I have had to date for coffee flavor. Also impressed by that lingering coffee flavor. You could easily convince me that I just had a cup of coffee at breakfast. Also recommend letting it warm up for 20 minutes, the flavor profile got even more intense as time passed.

If you are a coffee drinker, please find a way to get this brew- thanks again, Jeremy.

Tasted On: 03-09-2012
Freshness: 2011 Vintage (November)
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle
Glassware: Terrapin Snifter
Purchased: 4-pack from Moon Wine & Spirits, Brentwood TN

A: Pours dark black and opaque, with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Almost no lacing on the glass.

S: Aromas of coffee and dark, roasted malts are dominant, followed by chocolate, molasses, and some earthy/woody smells.

T: Rich flavors of coffee and bittersweet chocolates. Hop bitterness is low. Very nice tasting, this beer is balanced well between malt sweetness and the bitterness from toasted malt and the hops.

M: Full bodied brew, with a smoothness from the oats. Carbonation is on the low side. Aftertaste is of semi-sweet chocolate and coffee. Pleasant warmth from the alcohol in the finish as well.

O: Overall an exceptional coffee stout, smooth drinking and well-balanced.

From bottle to Duvip.

A - Pitch black. I mean, black like the basement in the final scenes of "Silence of the Lambs". Beauty of a dark brown head. Just like I want my stouts to look! Fair lacing.

S - Strong coffee and chocolate notes. A bit of metallic scent drops this down a point from stellar. Still, wonderful bouquet on this one.

T - Amazing. Strong coffee and chocolate notes follow the aroma. Earthy notes from either the hops or the coffee, most likely the coffee. I want some of whatever this coffee is for the morning! Great choice. Aftertaste is black coffee with a bit of roasted malts and toffee.

M - Very, very good mouthfeel on this one. The oatmeal really gives it the thickness it needs and carbonation is spot on.

O - I actually enjoyed this more than FBS. It's better in my mind, but only by a tad. Outstanding beer.

Thanks to Stakem and jpmclaug for some bottles of this.
A- Poured into a tulip this beer comes out of the bottle and rests in the glass a fairly thick black, with a finder tan bubbly head that fades quickly to a film over the top of the beer and a 1/8" ring around the edge of the glass. Has som bubbles running the glass.
S- The nose is quite impressive on this beer. The "imperialness" is obvious in the aroma with a strong roasted malt presence along with a coffee chocolate combo and some toasted oat.
T- Another impressive quality to this beer, the flavors blend together nicely and maybe its just the placebo effect from the label but it really does taste like chocolate chip cookie dough. As well as some espresso.
M- Medium bodied brew with light carbonation and leaves a bitter chocolate after taste.
O- Very glad to have had this delicious treat.
