Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

A: Pours a dark, jet black. A thin mustache like light brown head. Very little lacing and no retention.

S: Expresso coffee notes are abundant. I also smell roasted malts and a light chocolate scent, but the coffee is the predominant scent.

T: Tastes exactly how it smells. Like drinking an alcohol cold expresso. I can taste bittersweet chocolate as well as the oatmeal.
It has a slight bitterness finish which offsets the chocolate well.

M: Very smooth and definitely creamy. Carbonation is spot on.

O: Highly recommended and a beer I would seek out every trip to the store.

My beer guy recommended me to Terrapin's Wake-n-Bake as a new beer to try tonight. I've had mixed feelings about Terrapin's other offerings but my beer guy has never steered me wrong.

Appearance- The Wake-n-Bake pours an opaque dark brown/black with a thin dark tan head which leaves patchy lacing. Typical for the style

Smell- Extremely pleasant. A sweet dark roasted coffee scent, like coffee with milk and a slightly alcoholic tinge that makes you think of Irish Cream. Possibly some dark fruits attributing to the surprising sweetness

Taste- Much heavier roasted flavor than the smell leads the drinker to believe. Again, sweetness present potentially due to dark fruits. Dark roasted coffee and chocolate found in perfect harmony here. Starts with the sweet and roasted flavor, transitions into a roasted, deliciously chalky chocolate flavor, and finishes with a bitter, roasted malt aftertaste with hints of sweetness provided by dark fruit. Warm but extremely mild booziness

Mouthfeel- Near perfect in its thickness, could use just the slightest bit more. Above and beyond that the carbonation is perfect for the style and sits well in the mouth.

Overall this is one of my favorite imperial stouts I've ever had period. This beer is extremely enjoyable to drink, and only gets better as it warms. I can't praise Terrapin any more for creating what is a truly delicious Coffee Oatmeal Stout.

Enjoying right now shock chilled in the freezer for 20 mins from room temp in a red solo cup. Oh red solo cup, so old school.

A: Pours a coal tar black with absolutely no lacing. It's anti-lacing and will remove lacing from previous beers from the sides of your red solo cup. I'm seeing proof of this. God I love it.

S: Smells of the best cold espresso, brasil nuts, oily cigarette smoke and wet tar paper. It's as if your favorite dive bar was hosed down, mopped up in Wesley Snipes dew rag, and squeezed out of a 200 year old Mr. Coffee for your enjoyment.

T: Tastes of so many complex coffee variants with a definite tobacco and cocoa backend. Wet throughout with alcohol well balanced. Aftertaste reeks of chewed cohiba cigar, Kahlua and smoked hops. Maybe that's their secret, pre-smoking the hops. Slight alcohol on the exhale with a slight peanut flavor from the oats.

M: Wetness. Carbonation is an afterthought. Starts wet, finishes wet. Minimally carbonated so it goes down like a wet slipper.

O: A stout with a lot of character. It's impressive, but I must suggest that Intuition Ale Works beer called The Underdark eclipses it.

A huge thanks to Jonathan (Janderson91) for eight of these amazing beers. Cheers!

Appearance – Pours into a snifter with a dark black color. About a finger of mocha colored head is achieved with a moderate pour.

Smell – Wow – just an amazing amount of roasted coffee, slight chocolate, charred malts, and a hint of molasses. Smells amazing.

Taste – I am NOT a coffee person, but hell, if coffee tasted like this I would drink it all the time. Lots of coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, and just a hint of hops?

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, creamy, lower carbonation.

Overall – A fantastic, and I mean fantastic coffee beer. No alcohol present in the taste, nor warmth. This is right on par with FBS, if not a hint better due to the massive coffee flavor. Very good.
