A - Poured into a pint glass. Little to no head but laces the glass as drunk. Transparent but still very copper colored.
S - Malty smelling, bordering on musty. Fruity; plum comes through the most. It does not smell like an American pale ale, more like a Belgian Pale Ale.
T - The taste matches the smell: malty. First is bitterness in the middle of the tongue, quickly followed by sweetness that does not stop even a minute after the drink is finished. The rye is obvious through the sweetness; it comes through in characteristic rye spice notes.
M - Syrupy, thick body for a pale ale, little carbonation. Sticks in the mouth.
D - It is advertised as a double the hops and malt of the original Terrapin Rye, which no doubt it is; however, it is not twice the taste. The hops really did not come through on this as much as they did on the original, so the balance is now tilted in the malt side. This is not bad, but it was different than expected. If you like the Belgian style pale ales you will love this take with the rye. Those of you looking for an American Pale Ale will be surprised.
