Poured up dark amber with fairly thick white head, nice aroma rising immediately from glass, dark fruits, citrus, mostly rye and malts. Good mouthfeel medium carbonation. Warming but alcohol hidden well. First tried years ago, pleasantly surprised being my first rye. Used to buy regularly, sad it's bitten the dust now, why... ? was a nice beer, good change from norm!

This beer is a relic, was one of my first IP beer trades back in the day.
The color is almost morphing, I've seen it dark orange, light brown, all over the place, not really, but it really is subjective especially depending on the lighting. Full inch of off white head. Aroma for having double hops and rye was rather muted.
Taste wise it is just as much rye and malt forward as it is hoppy. There's too much other stuff to compete with, dark fruit, woodiness. The alcohol is pretty big on this one too.
I can see why they don't make it anymore. It wasn't bad, there just isn't really a big selling malty double rye ipa, and this wasn't gonna be the first.

Pours a clear amber producing 1.75 fingers of somewhat lived, beige, finely bubbled head that leaves a wash & spidery strings of lacing. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, brown sugar, pumpernickel bread, spicy rye, alcohol & a faint hint of leafy floral hops. Taste is dark malt, brown sugar & caramel, nuts & rye spice, fresh cut pumpernickel, raisin & alcohol booziness with a faint hint of leafy floral hops. Sweet but with an alcohol bitter finish & spice which linger in the aftertaste & become increasingly drier. The finish & for a short duration in the aftertaste are the only truly bitter portions of the sip. Alcohol prominence is heavy even considering the ABV. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with moderate carbonation, lightly prickly, creamy, moderately chewy but also a little syrupy & slick.
