"The Terrapin Hop Karma IPA (formerly known as the India Style Brown Ale) is a head on collision between a hoppy, west coast IPA and a complex, malty brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds." 65 IBU

Dark brown, reddish pour, thin head, sandy color

Aroma is nutty, caramel, touch of chocolate, dirty malt if that makes sense.

Like nose, slightly nutty, good earthy malt, touch of caramel, maybe a little chocolate malt in there, bitter but not too much, I can't reLly taste pine, or strong citrusy hops and was paying attention for them.

Med carbonation, Nice mouthfeel, kinda creamy, yet dry, similar mouthfeel to Guinness stout, maybe a touch thin.

Could drink easily, goes down smooth and not too heavy. Certainly NOT an IPA as you are thinking where you get loads of hops, citrus, pine, grapefruit etc. But very good. My first brown IPA and like it. I think terrapin is a solid brewery and some of their brews are top notch beers, this is average from them, but enjoyable.

A- Dark reddish brown in the glass. Poured an ok 1 finger head. Good lacing.

S- Smells are on the faint side. Caramel, cracker, surprisingly big booze, plum, raisin, slight touch of pine, citrus, and chocolate.

T- Follows the nose fairly closely; however, the flavors are better on the tongue than in the nose. Caramel, bready malts, plum, earthy hop spice, booze, slight orange and grapefruit with some pine.

M- Slightly thicker than medium. Smooth on the tongue. Slightly drying with a bready, fruity, bitter aftertaste.

O- At first I didn't like it, but the warmer it got, the more I did. In the end, I feel its easiest to explain it as 50% Brown Ale, 40% Belgian Strong Dark Ale, and 10% IPA. It is very nicely balanced considering all the contrasting flavors and styles. I would definitely have it again.
