"The Terrapin Hop Karma IPA (formerly known as the India Style Brown Ale) is a head on collision between a hoppy, west coast IPA and a complex, malty brown ale. Brewed with 5 varieties of hops and 7 different malts, this hybrid style represents the best of both worlds." 65 IBU

A- Dark reddish brown in the glass. Poured an ok 1 finger head. Good lacing.

S- Smells are on the faint side. Caramel, cracker, surprisingly big booze, plum, raisin, slight touch of pine, citrus, and chocolate.

T- Follows the nose fairly closely; however, the flavors are better on the tongue than in the nose. Caramel, bready malts, plum, earthy hop spice, booze, slight orange and grapefruit with some pine.

M- Slightly thicker than medium. Smooth on the tongue. Slightly drying with a bready, fruity, bitter aftertaste.

O- At first I didn't like it, but the warmer it got, the more I did. In the end, I feel its easiest to explain it as 50% Brown Ale, 40% Belgian Strong Dark Ale, and 10% IPA. It is very nicely balanced considering all the contrasting flavors and styles. I would definitely have it again.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Ruby red brown in color with a finger of light khaki colored fizzy head, little spots of lacing.
S - Slight alcohol, lots of roasted malts, some burnt maple, hickory, slight earthy hops.
T - A light citrus flavor up front with some spicy resinous hops, then it gets very roasty, lots of sweet malt, maple, hickory chips, slightly smoky.
M - Creamy smooth, a touch of burn and peppery spice to it
O - Really interesting and complex IBA, lots of character to it, one of the better versions of the style thats out there.

Poured from bottle into goblet at reefer temp.
Head average (3 cm), light brown, creamy; becomes frothy while mostly diminishing.
Lacing good.
Body is clear amber with a marked reddish hue.
Aroma is more malty than hoppy.
Begins moderately bitter and ends the same; no particular flavor outstanding.
Light to medium body, watery, carbonation soft.

I've been buying this beer when I could find it since it was India Style Brown Ale; it doesn't make it to western PA often. This beer is best when poured and allowed to open up before drinking.
