A - A fairly active pour... Two plus fingers of tightly packed crisp pure white head... Modest retention gives way to a rather full lacing... An ever so slightly hazed pale yellow with some bright orange highlights... Quite still with only a stray carbonation bubble hear or there...

S - A very nice crisp clean lemon zest aroma to start... A very subtle but inviting moderate spiciness highlighted by clove... Some fresh cut grass... Some faint yeasty character... Some additional muted candied sugar notes... A touch of bubblegum sweetness too...

T - Bubblegum... Banana... Some lemon and orange zest... Some subtle spice notes... A bit a of candied sugars on the finish...

M - Light bodied... Exceedingly smooth... A tad on the thin side... Just the slightest of carbonation... Simple and straightforward...

D - A simple yet solid Hefeweizen... The aroma is top notch, but all other categories are either average or a touch above average... I would drink again if given the opportunity, but not one I would highly recommend or go out of my way to sample... Quite sessionable at 4.5% ABV... (1,100 characters)

Terrapin Sun Ray Wheat, beer brewed with honey.

Hazy golden appearance, slim, negligible head.

Nice aromatics, bright, lively citrus and spice, and, yeah, honey. Beautiful.

Tasting it: Tupelo Honey, just like honey from the bee. Light bodied, tasty texture, good swath of sweetness, pleasant wheat mouthfeel.

Nice enough wheat ale, not as well appreciated this October night, no fault of the beer's. Fresh in the summer, I'd lap it up like crazy. (452 characters)

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a hazy, cloudy yellow-gold with a white head and a bit of lacing as it goes down. The nose brings forward some faint yeast characteristics with a bit of spice and banana. Good citrus and lemon notes as well. The taste brings some light wheat and yeast as well as a bit of orange and citrus. Mouthfeel is light and a bit creamy. Drinks quite well and a solid part of their lineup. (407 characters)

Poured into a pint glass on 10/2/10

Best if enjoyed by the 2nd week of November

Straw & golden pineapple in color with a modest haziness. Though initially slow to rise, over one finger of foam was manifest. Head retention is pretty thin. Basically no lace.

Aromas of wheat, honey, floral hops, earthy grassiness & a very faint yeasty undertone.

SunRay tastes very similar to how it smells. Honey is only slightly more apparent than the wheat, though the two are reasonably balanced. Not particularly sweet. Grassy flavors & earthy hops. Mild toastiness.

Though still fairly light in general, the feel is maybe a bit heavier than I'd expect (maybe the honey is the reason). There's a coating feeling after each drink. Carbonation seems on point for the style.

Drinkability is ok. It certainly seems like an average take on the style, though the honey adds something akin to intrigue, I suppose. Tastes decent enough, but that coating feel is weird. (953 characters)

Pours a hazy golden color with a frothy white head that doesn't retain so great. The aroma has some classic hefe notes upfront, such as banana and clove, along with a wheatiness, orange blossom honey, tropical fruits, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor has some wheat and hay notes initially, along with banana and clove, orange zest, honey, and some alcohol. The mouthfeel is light and sprightly, and drinkability is excellent. Solid pale wheat ale, not really a traditional hefe but good regardless. (499 characters)

From notes taken on 6/14/10

A - Cloudy gold with a 1 1/2 finger creamy white head.

S - Dry wheat bread, lemon, honey and yeast.

T - Wheat, orange and lemon citrus, and honey.

M - Light bodied with high carbonation. Slightly creamy.

D - Very drinkable, one of my go-to beers on a hot day. (292 characters)

Aroma is predominantly a sweet one, of banana and some clove spiciness in the background. Nothing too strong.

Very cloudy and blonde as one would expect for style.

Taste is definitely a sweet one, full of banana esters. It says it is brewed with honey, so that could contribute to that as well. As expected, cloves are present as well, but they seem to be secondary to the sweetness. This goes all the way through to the finish, where there's some citrus present, and it seems that the beer gets a twinge sweeter yet (again, the honey?). Definitely finishes on a refreshing note.

As a hefe fan, this gets my stamp of approval. Has all the characteristics of a good hefe, and the sweetness isn't to the point where it becomes cloying. (737 characters)

A- Golden light orange with a small white head that has low retention. Small cloud and ring. Sticky suds but no lace stays behind.

S- Light fruit. Tiny bit of clove and spice. Light grainy wheat malt.
Sort of like a Hefe mixed with a Pale Wheat, not too strong.

T- Not much changes from the aroma. Definitely a bit more fruity though, it takes the front role. Light grain and German yeast notes hide behind it. A fair amount of hop flavor.

MF- Light body, somewhat creamy. High carbonation stings the tongue. Some bitterness integrates well with the flavors.

DB- Wheat beers and American Hefeweizens have never really impressed me. This one is one of the better ones I have had, a nice fruit element going on and somewhat subdued spice/yeast. Try it if you are a fan of the style, you may like it a lot. (807 characters)

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden, capped by a thin layer of fizzy foam that dissipates quickly, leaving some scant lacing and a ring of foam atop the beer.

S: Lots of dry wheat up front that almost has a stale character, along with some light citrus and bananas.

T: The wheat has a better flavor than it did in the nose, while the banana character is more robust. Citrus is a bit sharper and the honey is subtle but evident.

M: Medium bodied with crisp, lively carbonation.

D: Easy drinking but it doesn't really make me want to keep drinking it. Decent, but unremarkable. (575 characters)

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

A: Bright lemon peel on the pour showcases a ton of effervesce both sticking on the glass walls and rising rapidly at a seltzer like pace. The head was a bit disappointing, micro-fizzy, turning washy then dissipating in a near blink of the eye. Really lacks incentive appearance wise.

S: Semi-dry oranges, light and tart, are combined with some dry wheat. A bit of starchy citrus follows up but is hardly impressionable. The strength is rather light and probably would of just hurt the rating had it had some more ummph.

T: Decent bite upfront of semi-tart oranges and wheat. Light tart grapefruit hops come in wet and of moderate strength. The oranges get a bit bright and bold on the finish along with some lemon and lime character on the swallow. Buttered wheat and honey, which is way over used, cheapens the overall effect here making this unbearably sweet and macro-like at times. To much honey takes away from the style.

M: A good deal of fizziness on the hold, light bodied with some edgy roughness as a result.

D: Not my first go to as a summer time wheat quencher, to macro-like and appears that was its intent. The honey truly is overplayed here, cheapens the wheat presence and makes this buttery sweet void of enjoyment. A six-pack is a waste. Average enjoyment and tweener beer. (1,299 characters)

Appearance - Served in a brown bottle. Love the logo (a turtle [terrapin] in a purple hat on a sunflower with a piece of straw hanging out of his mouth). Foggy orangey-gold. Slight sediment. 1/2 finger of head that most fades quickly.

Smell - Banana, fruity, clove

Taste - Very sweet up front. Gives way to a fruit flavor. Tart aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Crisp, cool, thin.

Drinkability - A good summer beer. Not the best, but refreshing and easy to drink. (457 characters)

bottle marked best by 3rd week of december. so it should be pretty fresh.
bright straw colored, and fairly clear for a wheat beer. little head. smells of wheat bread, honey, and some citrus. taste includes the typical bannana flavor and herbal spices, but overall the flavor is off putting. mouthfeel is thin, with higher carbonation.

wheat beers are not my favorite style, but even so, this seems below average for the style. (429 characters)

A - Hazy pale gold with a thin white head that has little retention and some lacing down the glass.

S - Big wheat and yeast notes with some crisp lemon and orange peel. A little sweetness comes from the addition of honey, and seems a little out of place.

T - Simple taste with some spicy yeast backed up by some orange peel, and a bit of honey in the aftertaste.

M - Light body, high carbonation makes it a bit of a sipper. Mostly clean on the finish.

D - Tasty, but I would consider this more of an American Pale Wheat. Probably would not get it again. (557 characters)

From notes.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle, label is a turtle in a purple hat standing in a large sunflower. Best by 2nd week of October. Described as brewed with a touch of Tupelo Honey form Savannah Bee Company.

Appearance: Pours with 1/2 finger of pure white head. This settles quickly to a few islands of foam. Beer is brilliant gold and slightly hazy. Some sediment in bottle.

Smell: Very mildy sweet malt with a hint of floral sweetness and some vegetal/bitter undertones. Distinct wheat twang.

Taste: Lemon zest upfront that fades into a fruity, bubblegum like middle. Lingering sweetness with a mild butterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation and good body.

Drinkability: An easily quaffable, refreshing summer beer. (746 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish shaped pint glass. Poured a pale golden/amber color with a huge foamy and sticky white head to it.

The aroma has a banana and clove yeastiness to it along with a touch of citrus. Wheat also comes through a bit, but not much. Moderately sweetness to it as well.

The taste has more of the banana and fruit flavors to it right up front. The spicy, clove, yeastiness comes through more in the finish. The wheat and the honey give it a sweetness that competes with the spices and yeast in the finish.

The mouthfeel is light and carbonation is above average. Drinkability is decent, it's a good sipper on a hot day. It had some good flavors overall, but wasn't anything outstanding compared to others in the style. Maybe a little light in flavor but a decent beer overall though. (820 characters)

Got this from a recent trip to PA.

A: Pours a nice yellow that's clear with a 1/2 inch white head. Leaves quickly

S: Nose is wheat, honey, malt

T: Malt is strong here along with some honey and wheat flavor

M: Low carbonation

D: Nothing real special about this one but I would certainly have a few of them in a session. Easy to drink in the summer. Had this with dinner and it hit the spot. (394 characters)

Extra from Grant - Thanks.

Pours straw pale yellow in color with almost no head except for a few white bubbles around the rim. Nose is sweet banana esters, tropical flowers, and honey. Taste is a bit spicy, grassy, with some orange/lemon citrus notes. Mouthfeel is rather thin. Overall, very refreshing and enjoyable although not my favorite style. (349 characters)

Dark hazy golden colored wheat beer. A little bit more hazy than most wheat beers. Pretty weak head that goes away quickly. Carbonation is sort of a dribble going up. Not the most impressive looking but the bottle looks cool. Smell is mostly wheat with a little bit of citrus. Citrus is pretty faint thought. Taste is full of wheat with also jsut a little bit of citrus. Its an average wheat beer and no tastes are very strong. Light bodied and little carbonation. It's a light hefeweizen so that's good if you want to drink a lot but if you are having one with a meal then I'd go for one with more flavor. (606 characters)

12 ounce bottle, best enjoyed by November 1, 2010, part of the Terrapin "All The Hits"
variety pack. Served in a weizen glass, the beer pours a hazy gold color with about an inch white head which goes away pretty quickly. Little bit of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is wheat, cloves, and a bit of bubblegum and lemon zest. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but there's also some honey noticable. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's nice and crisp with good carbonation. Drinkability is decent enough. Overall it's not a bad brew. It's not the best hefe out there, but still a decent enough beer that I wouldn't have any problem drinking again. (649 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours a cloudy gold with a thin white head on top. I'm getting some mild banana, clove, and a bit of nutmeg. The mouth is creamy, with some mild carbonation on the back end. Some tart aspects noted in the flavor. The spices are mellowed out in this. Wheat is the main player for sure. Not a bad representation of the style. Pretty refreshing. (382 characters)

Poured from cold bottle into a pint glass. The beer pours a hazy goldenrod hue with thin bleached white head foaming up .5 cm and fading to a sturdy edge layer. Aroma is lemon zest, yeasty dough and some banana, also a bit of cloves sweeten the scent. Very nice complex, yet clean nose. Sometimes all those smells just get muddled together these are distinct and I enjoy them.
First sip reveals a lite crisp body with fine and slightly tingly carbonation.
Flavor is sweet and fruity with a bit of wheat twang. Definitely some lemon hits and finishes with a bit of cloves sticking to my palate. I dont get any real hop notes and the 4.5 ABV is certainly not to be found. A well crafted tasty beer that is a great for summer and this crazy heat wave. I would buy again and recommend when looking for refreshing summer brews! (823 characters)

This bottle courtesy of Ding!

A straw yellow cloudy pour with about a half inch of foam with pretty decent lacing.

Lots of wheat notes, earthy malt, coriander, slight sweetness.

Tastes like it smells, maybe a little less vibrant than the nose suggested. Some sweetness from the honey, coriander, wheat flavour is boss with some lemon zest. A good taster overall.

Light bodied with plenty of carbonation, a fairly smooth and average mouthfeel for the style.

Drinkability? An easy enough drinker. I wouldn't turn it down if offered. (535 characters)

12oz bottle in Hoegaarden tumbler

A: Hazy pale yellow with a small white head that fades quickly. Color is a little dim.

S: Sweet malt and syrupy lemon. Quite a bit of bubblegum with some banana and a hint of clove. Very sweet smell, but appealing.

T: Taste is all sweet without much to balance it out. Big bubblegum flavor and just a little citrus. Slightly yeasty character. The honey didn't really dry this out at all. Not good, not bad. Meh.

M: Thin and undercarbonated.

D: Moderate. This would pass as a half decent summer tailgate-type brew. It's just not very interesting.

There are so many other readily available, better beers in this category that this should be an afterthought. (697 characters)

A - Poured a hazy yellow with a big white head that leaves lacing behind

S - Has a wheaty nose with light banana and clove

T - Follows the nose wheat banana and clove like a mild hefe of sorts

M - This beer has a light body with higher carbonation to it

D - Even thought the flavors aren't as strong as most hefes it's still a good easy drinking beer that's going down easy in this Georgia heat worth a try sometime (419 characters)
