Picked up a bottle of this up at Bruisin Ales while on vacation.

Pours a hazy gold in color. A little bit of froth around the edges of the glass. Smell is peppery, spicey, and a bit lagerish.
Taste is very nice. Very nice saison notes. Pretty good carbonation, and flavor. Nice floral, citrus, peppery notes.
Pretty good offering for a saison. One of the better Side Project beers that I've had from Terrapin.
Good beer, glad I got to try it.

Pours into my glass a somewhat cloudy yellow orange with a small white head that doesn't hang around very long. Seems a bit limp in the glass. Aromas of crisp grains along with lots of phenolic character. Coriander and lemon zest along with a soapy, floral scent that is somewhat off putting to me personally. A bit spicy, but overall muddled.

First sip brings smooth crisp grainy malts with a touch of creaminess. Abrasive phenolic character with an overwhelming dose of soapy floral flavors. Coriander and lemon zest with a touch of spiciness. A bit too much residual sweetness as well...just can't get into this one at all...bleh.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with fast moving carbonation. A wee bit watery honestly and unfortunately I just could not finish this one. The flavors didn't work for me at all here.

22oz brown bomber, volume # but no freshness date.

LOOK: Sizeable head, shiny golden color

SMELL: Yeast funk, candied fruit, white pepper, biscuity grain, taffy, medicinal herb, faint alcohol

TASTE: Fluffy, biscuity, yeast, herbal, taffy, orange zest, crackers, mint, mild alcohol warmth, juicy, mild spice, semi-dry finish

A little off the wall but that is expected within the style, gets a bit more drinkable with each sip. Hope they revisit this one.

Twenty-two ounce bottle pours a hazy, straw yellow body with a tight offwhite head that is small, but creamy. Spiderweb lacing is left on the glass.

Aroma is fruity, yeasty, herbal, and pastoral. Ripe pears, lemons, and kiwis comprise the fruitiness and dried basil and coriander provide the herbs.

Light medium body has a moderate carbonation and an earthy feel.

Taste has a dominant dry character, highlighted by lemon essence, grassy and herbal hops, and an earthy yeastiness. Fruitiness is evident,with notes of ripe pears and strawberries, and some tart kiwi. Faint hints of honey and white pepper add complexity. Finishes dry, with a note of tart berries.

A very pleasant surprise! Lots of going on here, with the amazing fruity notes melding very well with the pastoral character of a solid saison. Wish I had some more bottles of this one.

Had on-tap at the Thinking Man Tavern in Atlanta.

Pours a cloudy lemon-yellow color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of light fruits - mostly pears but hints of green apples - with hints of grassiness and herbal hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Light fruit flavors kick things off and are joined midway through the sip by herbal and slightly citrus hop flavors. The hops flavors are a bit bigger in the tap version than they were on cask. Ending is mildly bitter with soft fruit flavors lingering.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass fairly quickly and could have another.

Overall I thought the flavors in the tap version were a bit more robust but the cask version was a bit better integrated. Both versions are worth a shot.

waited until I had 3 of these down the old hatch.

A: cloudy yellow pale orange with about a 1/4 inch Head, I poured it into a mug, and it was 36F when I poured it. looks like a hefe, but its a sasion.

S: apricots, orange Like yeast, some malt present, with the rye nose and some brett. Nice off note of hops

T: I get hints of fruit of cirtus, but some melon like flavors, the malt and rye are present, some brett yeast taste, hops are well balanced and are very hard to pick up.

m: medium to thin body, low carbonation

D: here is where this beer shines, so easy to drink this 1, yes please may I have another 22oz bomber, yes i think I will.

Bottle thanks Radek for sharing. Darkish yellow body with noticeable rising carbonation bubbles. The aroma is hoppy and it is apple juice. Light mouthfeel, light for the style. Getting pepper and corriander. Criticism is expectation for more yeast contribution. Very summer beerable, drinkable.

Thanks to Foofaa for sharing at the Brass Rail. A foil-wrapped bomber.

A: The saison is a golden yellow color, paler than the Piraat that I just had. The ale, while still opaque, seems to open up a little more though. Less than a finger of stark white head.

S: The nose is spice-driven, with candi sugars, pears and a healthy dollop of star anise lingering around.

T: The body is rather dry, evident from the first sip. Bready pale malts, a little bit of funk and candi sugars drive the taste. A dash of pepper and some more anise become evident the further I get into the glass. There is nothing structurally wrong with the saison, it just seems to be lacking something.

M: The mouthfeel is full at times, offering fruit, funk and yeast in abundance, but the flavors struggle to come together.

D: The one I was most anxious to try I ended up liking the least. Isn't it always like that?

Well.... I'm still broke and this was in the fridge... here we go.. poured into my Delerium goblet.

Not much of a head really.. the brew is a hazy golden... descent lacing..

Nose is apple juice.. lite honey essence and a bit of spice.. esters remind me of the banana in a German hefe.

Flavor is close to the nose but carries some lemon zest with it and some mild spicy hoppiness.. not really any of the tradtional saison funk, but overall it seems an okay take on the style... finish moves from a bit of maltiness rather quickly to fairly dry with a bit of a sour twang... body seems a bit high.. but the carbonation is about perfect.

Thanks again Geoff.... I hope you enjoy your beers as much as I am enjoying mine.

The last of the side projects I had to try, I opened this one up with the Monks Revenge last night and enjoy them both together. Served chilled and poured into a ten ounce sampling glass, this one was consumed on 05/02/2010.

The pour was damn spot on. Rich golden in color with a very light haze to it, letting the light shine through produced a wonderful golden hue that really lit up the room. Nice three fingers of head on top that literally just sat there for what seemed like forever, really coating the sides of the glass very nicely. Rich aroma of grain, light hay notes, hints of pears, apples, nice amounts of fruit being collected from all around. Warming brings out a light citrus splash to it that really seems to work quite nicely. Flavor was a bit lighter then what I had hoped for. Light fruits, touches of pears, apples, hints of light grass as well. Grainy with hints of fruit intersperse red. A nice mixes just a touch light. Smooth and even carbonation and feel really worked quite well together and the overall coating was a nice touch. Easy to sip on or even session a tad I had no problem putting this one down as the light lemon zest in the finish really added the punch that it desperately needed.

Overall a very solid example of the style and one of the better offerings I had this past weekend. Very solid here and wish I could se this one as at least a seasonal release from them.

Pours a hazy gold, with a very thin head. Like more head on my farmhouse beers, but then, who doesn't like more head?

Yeasty, spicy aromas, a little farmhouse funk. Very nice aroma.

Nice bitterness, nice yeast bite, a little musty, in a good way. Peppery. Could easily mistake this for a belgian farmhouse/saison.

Mouthfeel is medium. Mouth coating, but not a filling beer. Dead on for style.

Damn good on drinkability. Good session beer, even at 6%. An excellent example of my favorite style of beer. Wish I had more of this. Need a big ol' bucket of mussels to go with this.

Interesting beer with the peach added. I'm new to the beer reviewing side of things, so this was a first. I liked the lightness of the beer - something you could easily drink on a hot summer day. I will definitely be looking for similar beers to try over the hot months of summer!

Pours a murky golden orange with a finger of head. Huge, beautiful nose made up of orange peel, light spices, bananas, band aids, and some lactic sweetness. Taste isn't quite as good mainly because it lacks that funky punch that separates a good saison from a great one. Still, some nice orange peel and biscuit malt flavor that is pretty damn easy to drink. Medium body with perhaps a tad too much carbonation sting. Very solid beer overall, but will soon be forgotten.

Denoted "Volume 7" in the Terrapin Side Project series, Maggie's Farmhouse Ale comes packaged in the usual 22-ounce bomber bottle and is trimmed crown-to-neck with golden foil. Peeling away the gilt and cracking the crown of the cellar-cool specimen in-hand, a brisk pour reveals a brew that is bronzed clover-honey golden orange in color with a thick cap of creamy, glossy, bright eggshell-white foam. As the head settles into a rocky sheet, drippy broken rings of lacing cling to the sides of my Duvel tulip.

The aroma is grassy-sweet with a splash of ripe muskmelon and a soft pear-apple note, but despite the flowery fruitiness, the olfactory profile is deeply grounded in something a little funky. A murky whiff of mushrooms, wet wool blankets, and damp, and dark loamy earth tag-team with a thin edge of peppery spice and a zip of acidity to provide depth and add contrast to the mellow floral character.

The taste is fruity and crisp with a bone-dry finish. Essences of green grapes, crispy freestone peaches and juicy smashed green apples are spritzed with a subtle dose of bittering tangerine skin oil. A persistent palate-drying leafy grassiness dries the finish to dusty near-perfection.

The drink is light-bodied with appropriately zesty carbonation. Delicious, very drinkable, and highly refreshing.

A - Pours a deeply hazed pale orangish golden color with a finger of somewhat loose white foam that dies quickly only leaving behind a thick collar and a few islands of bubbles on the surface. Leaves some light spiderwebs of lacing on the glass. Pretty typical appearance for a farmhouse ale.

S - Fruity with lots of citrus - especially oranges and lemons with some limes thrown in for good measure. Has a pretty good malty backbone with tons of bread and some graininess. Lots of spicy Belgian yeast character, cloves, cinnamon.

T - Flavor is right there with the aroma. Citrusy fruit flavors up front with the oranges standing tall but combining with some lemons and some apples - perhaps a bit cidery in flavor. Cloves and cinnamon and some sugary sweetness and the Belgian yeast drive the flavor and surpass the fruity aspects. The malt gives a solid bready base. Hop bitterness is minimal...they seem to content to simply balance the sweetness and sit in the background to the other ingredients.

M - Fairly light in body with ample carbonation levels. Carbonation leaves light prickly feel on the tongue.

D - Pretty good saison/farmhouse ale. Lots of fruity and spicy flavors to propel this one along. Good beer for a nice warm day sitting on the deck. Could easily have several of these in a sitting.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle. Pours hazy with a white head with less than average retention but some decent side lacing.
Aroma has a yeasty scent and cloves. That's not good because not a fan of either. There is also a hint of lemon.
Yeast and mild tartness and that clove come through. I have never had a framhouse ale and unfortunately it is just not my style. The good news I had a new style and learned about it.

thanks to the GA BA that sent me this one months ago... this bottle is perhaps a year old or more (?)

poured cold from the bottle a semi-opaque honey'd straw gold to a dogfish head shaped pint glass with a healthy two finger, big bubbled, long lasting head leaving

aroma of big belgian yeasts and a hint of sour lemon citrus.

subtle tart lemon rind, and big yeasty bread forward. very subtle, no tang, only smooth.

medium bodied, big carbonation, tart to the tongue, slightly sour, dry finish.

overall, a very nice example of style, it's probably sat much longer than intended, but it still stands up nicely.

Maggie's is a fine Saisons that only misses the mark of great Belgian Saisons slightly on a few accounts.

The beer begins with a medium hazy strong straw to light golden color. Fair carbonation fuels only a moderate foam stance and with fair lacing.

Fruit-forward aromas of pears, appricots, apples, lemons, and other tropical varieties fill the nose. Pilsner malts offer a sweet aroma to accompany the fruits. Alcohols and peppery notes tickle the nose a bit. Earthy with hops and yeasty-bready substrate give balance and help to root the beer.

Sweet flavors of malts and fruit give inviting flavors early on, while spicy white pepper and pungent hops balance the beer at mid-palate. Sweet breads, corriander, and orange peel help to give complexity to the sweetness but might make for too much sweetness.

Sweetness coats the mouth early and remains so. Even as the beer's alcohol and hop bitterness dries out late, it stops short of the classic spicy/malty dryness of more efforvescent Belgian Saisons.

Maggie's is a fine Saison, it just misses the marks to become wonderful or outstanding. But this Saison is consistent and well crafted.

Pours a hazy yellow with minimal head and little stickage. A bit of agitation kicks up a nice little ring of soft foam.

Aroma is of mild hay-like hops and Belgian yeast, wheaty spiciness, and a hint of honey-like sweetness.

Taste is nicely balanced right from the start. Dry bready malts, a bit of green apple, tangy yeast, earthy hops. White pepper, lemony bite, and clean hop bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is soft with a some spiciness to give it an edge. Medium light body, gentle carbonation, and a dry finish.

Missing some depth to the spiciness, and I would have prefered less wheat and more pale malts for a bit more body. Very refreshing and clean, it would pair well with a summmer salad or grilled fish.

I received this in one of my first trades and have finally gotten around to drinking it -- a very nice beer that I am kind of kicking myself for not drinking sooner as it may have been a bit fresh, but it was still really solid. Review is from notes taken on 10/1/2010 and poured from the bottle to a tulip glass.

Appearance: Pour is a lemony/honey tea-like color; starts with a 1/2 finger white head that fades rather quickly to a thin and uneven skim; body is just a little cloudy; shows moderately light carbonation a few thin strands of lacing are left behind.

Smell: Right away there is a big dry, biscuity/doughy yeastiness; a bit of a flowery/perfumey bouquet; light green acidic fruitiness that is tart, yet it still manages to retain a bit of sweetness to it.

Taste: Really nice, and still very robust for sitting around for a bit -- lots of sour/tart light green fruitiness (like green apples and white grapes) that have a fair amount of acidity; a dry biscuity graininess and yeastiness and a bit of a bitter hop finish lingers in the aftertaste with a bit of a flowery/perfumey/lilac presence on the breath.

Mouthfeel: Body is a little heavier than light and the carbonation is really soft, perhaps even just a little bit "dead" or flat, but it may be because it has sat around for a while; body comes across a little slick and oily; belly is left a little warm and a thin, even and sticky coating is left all over the mouth.

Drinkability: Quite nice with a big flowery scent to it and pretty robust flavors -- overall I do wish I would have it fresh to perhaps help with the carbonation. The ABV isn't especially high so it would be pretty easy to get through a few of these in a night, especially in the warm summer months as it just seems like it would be pretty refreshing.

Split a bottle of this. Pours a hazy yellow color with no head and no lacing. Wheaty aroma, slightly spicy. Taste is more wheat than malt. Shallow spice effect. Some apple & pears in there as well. Well carbonated. Could easily have a couple of these. Overall, a decent, refreshing beer.

Another side project sent my way courtasy of gford.

Poured from the brown gold tin wrapped bomber, hrad at first, but realizing this thing was a foamer...poured soft, creating about an inch of white head. Receding sort of quick and leaving a thin collar and cap of retention.
Thin legs of lace line the glass. Color is a bright golden golden, darker yellow. Transparent but providing bright color when held to light.
Aroma is light, but what I do smell is dried hay, a little bit of bready funk, just a wiff of tart fruit along with it a bit of malty grain.

Taste is also a bit lacking at first, until it warmed things changed a bit. Spice and funky bready tones upfront with a touch of sweetness. Pears, lemon zest and a little bit of spice and some things nice. Finishing quite a bit more dry as well as picking up more flavors of the tart fruit and lemon zest.

Mouthfeel is a little slick, a good amount of carbonation zing.

Overall not impressed, although it sure beats a Bud.

Picked up a couple of bottles of this at Green's in Atlanta while in town on business.

Pours a very cloudy golden color with a tangerine tint to it. One finger of off-white head sits on top and settles to a thin, patchy lace. No stick.

Smell is quite bready and yeasty, and the yeast aromas tell me that this is a pretty good strain they have here. It's also pretty herbal and floral, with aromas of grass and cloves, as well. It's slightly sweet, with a subtle fruity, sweet wheat aroma. It's interesting and inviting.

The taste doesn't quite come off as interesting or complex as the aroma. It's pretty straightforward actually, with a bready, slightly sweet wheat base as well as some grain flavor. There are some herbal and fruit - like maybe lemon - flavors on top, as well as some other interesting flavors I can't quite place (lavendar maybe? some strange herb?), but overall it feels a little subdued as compared to the nose. Also a little too sweet for a saison, in my opinion, without a dryness to balance and smooth it out. The yeast isn't quite as interesting on the palate as it was in the nose, either.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight dryness, but still feels a bit too sweet and chewy.

This is pretty good, but comes off a little too simple and it's also a bit sweeter than I like. At first I thought the yeast strain seemed pretty good, but as I finish my first glass I'm thinking that it's actually not that interesting and doesn't add all that much character to the beer. Still, this is a good attempt at the style from a brewery that doesn't have a whole lot of Belgians in their repertoire.

650 mL bottle split into two chalices.

Right away I noticed the handsome deep gold verging on pale amber color. What really makes it look good is that you can't see through it, but its not really cloudy at all. No head really to speak of.

S) Yeast, hops, grain and a fruit note. Reminds me of smelling dough.

T) Very reserved. No flavor wants to sing in this one. Grains, yeast, maltiness, and DRY

It feels dense at first in your mouth but then it lightens up and gets airy. Dry still
