To our brewers the "Side Project" series of beers signifies an opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and unique styles while utilizing creativity. To our fans it represents a chance to sample an exclusive beer crafted just for them. Each "Side Project" volume is a limited edition, one-time batch featuring a new...BREWING IMPROVISATION.
For our next Side Project beer, Terrapin is going down on the farm, Maggie's Farm that is. Originally created for the farm workers along the French/Belgian border during the Middle Ages, Farmhouse Ales were typically brewed with whatever grains were available. For this version, Terrapin is using barley, wheat, oats, and rye.

... Received this as part of a fantastic trade with my new Homeboy GeezLynn... Thanks a ton Geoff.

Well.... I'm still broke and this was in the fridge... here we go.. poured into my Delerium goblet.

Not much of a head really.. the brew is a hazy golden... descent lacing..

Nose is apple juice.. lite honey essence and a bit of spice.. esters remind me of the banana in a German hefe.

Flavor is close to the nose but carries some lemon zest with it and some mild spicy hoppiness.. not really any of the tradtional saison funk, but overall it seems an okay take on the style... finish moves from a bit of maltiness rather quickly to fairly dry with a bit of a sour twang... body seems a bit high.. but the carbonation is about perfect.

Thanks again Geoff.... I hope you enjoy your beers as much as I am enjoying mine.

Maggie’s Farmhouse Ale – from Terrapin. Bomber picked up at an unknown bar in Robinson – you know the one – where they used to have Strip District salads. Reviewed 11/02/24 (Review 3243). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bomber. Stored at a cooler at the bar, 39 degrees at home for the last decade. Served at 54.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 57.8 degrees F.
Appearance – 3.5
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear.
Body – Deep Gold (SRM 6), clear. Under direct light, same. Rear-lite, same.
Head – None. Just a few roiling bubbles which rapidly disappear, leaving only a narrow, broken bubble ring around the edge.
Lacing – None
Aroma –3.5 – Very weak graininess. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol (6 % ABV according to BA, label unmarked).
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly sweet with an odd background flavor. No yeast, no hops, no roasted malt, no spiciness. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No ethanol. No gastric warming occurs.
Palate – 3.5 – Thin; watery; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated bottle) Wow! Guess I shouldn’t have waited 10+ years to crack this last bottle. I remember I used to really like this one – I bought all I could find even though it meant driving 2 hours to the Pittsburgh area. Back in those days, Terrapin was independent and made some good beers; when heading into the South, Athens and the brewery were always scheduled stops.

Interesting beer with the peach added. I'm new to the beer reviewing side of things, so this was a first. I liked the lightness of the beer - something you could easily drink on a hot summer day. I will definitely be looking for similar beers to try over the hot months of summer!
