reviewed from notes from the tap room

bright golden yellow, huge white billowing head, decent retention. Nice side glass lace, good cloudy appearence, lots of carbonation. Very light, lots of yeast with a touch of some lemon maybe, light in aromas, not in overall strength of smell. Very very nice, light palate with a bigtime yeast presence. Lots of grain with a hint of lemon or some other kind of bitter hops, great flavors. One of the best haefe flavor profiles I have tasted. Crisp, clean. very nice carbonation.

Taken from notes, been waiting for this to be added to site. Had this on tap at the brewery when they released this. Paid the extra tickets for a full glass since the beer sounded intriguing. Poured in the special pint glass for the Reunion Beer.

A: Nice and hazy body is the first thing that grabs my attention when the glass is served to me. The body's color is bit more orange than a golden but pretty close. Light and yellow. Light gets through but you can't see clearly through the glass, just shadows on the other side. Had a little over a finger of white, pretty fluffy head. Retention wasn't bad at all, lasting quite a while. This beer did throw up some nice web-like lacing on the glass. Not bad at all in this department if you ask me. Was torn on giving it a higher score here.

S: Nice wheat aroma coming out first. The citrus is a nice mix of orange and lemony goodness. There is a very earthiness here with a touch of dirt and grass. The malt seems a touch wierd for the style, but it works. Maybe a bit pale with a touch of light breadiness here. Touch of peppery spice on the back end.

T: Starts off yet again with the wheat, very earthy and nice. Touch of grass and lemongrass mixing in here. Citrus fruits (lemon peel and meat, along with slight tart but sweet orange) play nicely with a very light banana flavor. Malts are light and pretty clean, much like the hops we have going on in here. Yet again, we finish with just a touch of pepper.

M: Medium bodied but still has a nice lightness to it. By no means a thin beer. ABV is touch warm, just enough to let you know you probably shouldn't kill too many of these in record time. Carbonation is a nice medium, keeping the beer crisp. Beer is pretty clean, flavors don't linger too long with just a light aftertaste of citrus and pepper.

D: I can dig this. It was a hot day at Terrapin when I was drinking this, and this beer really did the trick as a nice thirst quencher while we were mingling, playing frisbee, or while I was taking these notes. Its an easy drinking beer with a good amount of stuff going on. With that said, it seems they knew where to stop so that this beer doesn't become too much. Damn good beer and I couldn't find anyone who was disappointed by it that night. Would love to have some more.

Appearance: Served up a hazed, dark gold body with a smallish, white head.

Smell: Pils and wheat malts supported by piquant notes of lemon juice, lemon zest, flowers, bananas, and spice.

Taste: Pleasant medley of pale, pilsner, and wheat malts with light tanginess from the wheat and an initial burst of sweetness. A strong streak of lemon rushes into the flavor, slightly obscuring the lesser, secondary tastes of banana and coriander. Floral, citrusy hop character with a mild bitterness. It's like a lemon ice-wheat hybrid. Semi-dry, citrus-laden finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Drinkability: Fairly enjoyable. All of the lemony tastes within really gives this one an overall bright, refreshing quality to it.

From a co-founder of the project:

"The Reunion '09 recipe was developed and first brewed by Spike at Terrapin. Three other breweries are adapting the recipe to best fit their particular production requirements. The breweries are Elysian, Pizza Port, and Bison. The Terrapin brewed version was released on 7/24[/2009]." The official website (www.reunionbeer.com) states that it is a Double White however the label provided states it's a Double Wheat. I say it's a tasty amalgamation.

On-tap at Taco Mac Decatur.

Pours an opaque lemon-yellow color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of light fruits - mostly bananas - with a good amount of slightly tart citrus. Also present are hints of grass.

Tastes good. Light fruit flavors up front - again bananas - but with lots of lemon and orange flavors lurking in the background. Providing the backbone is a good amount of wheat. The ending is mildly bitter.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a very nice thickness with soft yet active carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more of these.

Overall this was a very good beer and I wish the folk's behind it nothing but the best. Be sure to try this if you see it around.
