Notes/Commercial Description:
Although this is a pumpkin beer, it is a lager and therefore doesn't belong in the pumpkin ale category. Originally a Side Project, now a Fall seasonal in six-packs.

A: Translucent amber, small off white head that recedes to a ring.

S: Pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel malt and a earthy grain in the nose.

T: Very balanced blend of malt and spice. Very marzen up front, with toasty quality mixed with caramel sweetness before lighting up with flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, and the other spices.

M: Definite Oktoberfest body, with a creamyness to it while remaining light. Leaves a nice coarseness to the mouth on a crisp finish.

D: A pumpkin spiked Oktoberfest, hard to disagree with such an idea. This may be my definitive Fall beer from here on out.

A mix of a Fest lager and pumpkin ale now thats a mix.Poured ino a imperial nonic a clear burnt orange with a tinge of bronze,a thinner slight off white head atop.Light pumpkin pie spice in the nose, clove, cardamom, and cinnamon mainly,it is pretty light though.A nice mix of pumpkin spice and a crisp toasty finish, one of the better pumpkin ales I have had in awhile flavor wise. This pumpkin ale is not overly sweet and spiced up and is very drinkable, very nice.

Pours a copper-amber color, completely opaque in a strange kind of way - not exactly "hazy" looking like many witbiers, but you definitely can't see through it. Small, gray head that barely lasts seconds and leaves no lacing. The smell contains a hefty dose of spices, the most prominent to me being nutmeg, followed up by a little bit of cinnamon and maybe even allspice. The concoction of flavors may cause your mind to think "pumpkin" but this beer, to me, was more reminiscent of holiday spices in general. Slight peppery aftertaste, with a thick, malty base throughout, finished with a touch of yeast and bread on the palate. A bit watery overall, but still holds a nice amount of spice and malt flavor. Low bitterness and hops might be present, but at that point, you're just reaching. Medium body, medium carbonation.

This was a pumpkin beer that was closer to "holiday spice" than "pumpkin". Why exactly? I'm not too sure. Maybe it was the balance of spices? Though I would definitely say nutmeg was the most prominent and may even argue it was slightly overpowering compared to the rest. All in all, a decent brew, definitely a nice holiday warmer.

Golden amber/brown color. Minimal head when poured to a chilled pint glass. Very shuttle hint of pumpkin and spices. Overall a good beer to drink on a fall day.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

LOOK: Rudy amber hue, clear, decent stickage

SMELL: Pie spice, light pumpkin meat, malty, faint caramel, sweet

TASTE: Very spicy, lots of pie spice, medium bodied, malty, hint of pumpkin, clean, slightly sweet, malty finish

Love the concept of taking an O-fest and a Pumpkin Ale and smashing them together. A good brew all around I just have a problem with the spicing upfront, needs to be dialed down a bit. A fun brew to quaff back.

Very enjoyable pumpkin ale. Very rich and spicy. Nice bready and caramel notes to go along with the usual pumpkin spices. One of the better 12 ounce bottle versions I have had.

This is the Side Project No. 8 version, not the re-released falls seasonal version. Drank in December 2010 so the beer is aged one year.

The beer pours a dark orange color with a white head. The aroma is pumpkin, caramel, cinnamon, cloves and allspice.

The flavor is more of the same. I get some pumpkin, cinnamon and cloves as well as some caramel and toffee malts.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Very enjoyable, but it tastes like a regular pumpkin beer to me. I don't really get any of the Oktoberfest characteristics from the beer, other than the caramel and toffee which are typically present in other pumpkin beers.

2011 vintage served as part of a pumpkin beer tasting session.

A nice orange color; clear with a moderate off-white head.
Visible carbonation.

M - nicely carbonated; medium-light body but not watery.

Nicely spiced: enough to lend a Pumpkin pie character but not so much as to mask everything else. Only a hint of pumpkin in the aroma, however, more comes through in the taste. Spicing is largely nutmeg.

{May 2013 update: drinking a ~9 month old 2012 which is, if anything, better}

On-tap at Twain's in Atlanta.

Pours a copper-orange color with a 1.5-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a patchy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of spices - nutmeg and cinnamon with hints of allspice - and underlying amounts of lightly bready malts.

Tastes similar to how it smells, although the spices are toned down a bit. Sweet and slightly bready malt flavors up front are joined by mild amounts of spices midway through the sip. The spices fade a bit before a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a solid thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall I thought the bottle version was a bit smoother but other than that there weren't many differences between the two versions. Worth a shot.

This is a lovely beer. Smells fresh and spicy, and can taste cloves and cinnamon immediately with almost a fresh apple cider finish. Light and lovely. I don't taste tons of pumpkin, but this is not a sweet beer at all, very spicy. Really great fall beer.
