Serria Nevada Hopsecutioner 7.3% alcohol poured from 12.oz bottle to snifter.

A- Pours a copper colored fluid that produces a small off white head that falls to a froth and leaves mild lacing behind.

S- Smell is mostly floral hops with a light roasted malt background.

T-M- Taste is of lightly bitter hops with undertones of sweet caramel malts followed by a smooth hop tingle on the tongue. Mouthfeel is good with nothing more than smooth flavor rolling over the buds.

Overall this is a good beer to go all night with and enjoy all its charactoristics in mass quantities.

This pours golden orange with a nice 1 1/2 fingers of head. The smell is rich with malt and citrus hops. The taste is malty, crisp and hoppy at first. There is a little bit of bitter booziness that follows. The alcohol taste in this is a negative for me since it is only a 7.3%...i've had many other beers with ABVs in that range that aren't as obvious. It also has some cereal flavors that I don't love. I would call this a medium body, and not my favorite IPA.

The beer pours a light amber with good head into my trusty Sam Adams glass

The smell is not overpowering, the hops are present, it is possible this is not a super fresh bottle.

The taste is good, kind of subtle to be called Hopsecutioner, another reason I think this bottle is not super fresh

The mouthfeel was good; I am enjoying this beer after a day of working in the yard, and loving it!

An amber colored brew that is clear and with light carbonation. A vigorous pour produces about a finger's worth of white foamy head, fading to a ring with some inner churning.
Aroma of course is the hops. Floral, honey and grapefruit is what I can pick out. And the malts, sweet caramel.
I can pick up sweet toasted malts right off the bat but there is also a big hop taste present too. Flavors such as floral and pine come through with hints of grapefruit. AS the beer warms alcohol comes through.
The body is medium and a bit oily. The beer also has a nice dry finish and clean with hardly any aftertaste.
A good beer that is not overpowering in either hop bitterness or alcohol.

A- Poured out nicely at room temp into a tulip for S & G (s@#$s & giggles) to get the full effect of the hops. A slight burnt amber in appearance with a good solid inch and a quarter head retention for a solid two minutes.

S- Honestly all I smell is lupulin and some astringent pine maybe a slight note of toffee but cannot be sure

T - The fruit hits right up front with a bit of hop, followed succinctly by all resinous hoppiness, then a finish that is honestly a letdown. Almost as abruptly as it starts it stops. The hops clear out then you are left with that twinge of...I drank something hoppy but now what.

M - Very carbonated on the first sip but that could be due to the bottle. Definitely has that acid hoppieness you look for but still lacking that punch if the kisser you want from something that claims to be the "hopsecutioner".

O - Overall not a bad got to beer for the weekend if you are a hop fan(addict), but I would caution you, this is a session hopped beer, to be enjoyed over a good conversation, not one to start the night out on.

A: Absolutely and positively crystal clear bronze color about a 1-2 finger mildly off-white head after a very hard pour. The retention was serviceable.

S: Not much on the nose.... just a mild bit of orange, lemon, and yeasty malt.

T: Well, the hop bitterness was certainly there, with a tinge of pleasant sweetness. However, this one needed more pine-like quality to the overall taste profile. Pleasant enough....

M: Some carbonation prickliness and fruity sweetness. The bitterness was there in spades.

O: A good solid drinker, but for a brewery that has the reputation Terrapin has, this IPA needs to be tweaked a bit....

From 12oz bottle to Bruges hybrid glass on 3/9/11
*From notes

I sampled this one per cadaugherty's recommendation. Cheers, Chad!

A: Brilliant, rich amber. A reasonable pour leads to a dissapointing 1.5 finger head. The lacing, like the head, doesn't impress.

S: Nice - piney hops! Bitter citrus and slight hints of cedar resin.

T: Really sturdy hop presense up front, which lays a great foundation for the malty mid and a heavy, biting and refreshing finish.

M: Less carbonation then I would have expected, but it's really got a good amount of weight behind it.

O: Quite a delicious surprise. I haven't been overly impressed with a lot of Terrapin's Side Projects recently, and I feel that they've been valuing "quantity not quality".

Having said that, I'm happy to report that their bread n' butter - the Hopsecutioner - is alive, well and drinking beautifully.

Thumbs up.

Gotta love the bottle and name! A very filtered dark golden. It has a light head with good lacing.
The Smell is clean and mild. I notice malts, and obviously hops.
Taste is not as hop like as expected. Its there, but not strong enough to fit the name. With that said, this is an amazingly smooth beer! I wish I had access to this brew on a regular basis, another would be great! Cheers

Somewhat a local beer, being it is from Georgia. One finger pure white head of medium dense foam, leaving a good clinging lace. Color is a 11 on the SRM beer color chart. Smell is almost pure grapefruit, but there are traces of orange, lime, and pine. Taste is clean and refreshing. Grapefruit, lemon peel, lime, orange, tangerine, and pine nut. If you like the flavor of hops, this brew is for you. Mouthfeel is a little lacking, quite full and creamy, but leaves a pretty dry feeling on my tongue and back of my soft palette. Yes I will buy this again and I am glad I bought the six pack.

This beer was given to me by a friend (thanks eric) and it was past it's prime. "best if enjoyed by the 3rd week in feb" - taken into account, and I do plan on re-reviewing fresh

Poured great with awesome carb and a great head. Deep dense bubbles swirled to show the body of the beer, it was clearly big. when held to the light it is a slightly hazy yellow/amber, not quite as amber/orange as most IPAs. Smelled largely of grapefruit and citrus with a slight musky earth in the back, overall I was surprised at how fresh it smelled, the wife smelled it from the other side of the couch. Tasted wonderful, textbook IPA to my tastebuds. It was very bitter ala Stone style, however the body suffered from the age it had on it I think. As the beer warmed the body was watery and pungent.

Great IPA - get it fresh as I intend to

Hopsecutioner pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small, creamy white head on top. The foam fades quickly leaving behind a few spots and lines of lace on the glass.

The aroma is hoppy, but it reminds me of celery. There's some orange citrus and grass with a touch of caramel malt in there too.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is soft on the palate, dry with a light effervescent fizz. Very pleasant! The flavor is a nice balance of floral hops and sweet caramel and pale malt. It starts with orange citrus and pine. That's followed by sweet caramel and bready pale malt. It finishes mildly bitter and dry. Once gone the bitter pine hop notes linger on the palate.

This is an easy drinking beer that's fairly well balanced. I thought the aroma was odd, but the flavor is nice.

Pours a medium copper color w/ an off white two finger head that quickly goes away. The smell is that of tropical fruit mostly. The taste is interesting. I get apricot, hops, orange, lemon, grapefruit.... but there's something missing. Maybe a little more malt, but that's my personal preference. Mouthfeel is good- pretty smooth finish, and aftertaste goes away fairly quickly. Drinkability is high- This one goes down pretty easy, and you could have 2 or 3 no problem in one session. A good, but not great IPA. Glad I tried this one out...

M: Alcohol hot, but it is an IPA
D: Very good IPA, enjoyed the hoppy feeling throughout. High alcohol volume, but drinks like a 4%.

Average head and lacing with a chill hazed golden brown color. The smell is somewhat dissappointing, and lacks the super citrus hoppy smell I would expect.

The suprising thing about this beer is that it has a very assertive malt profile. I swear I taste wheat in the malt. There is a bitter hop aftertaste, but the hops hardly dominate the palate. I like the smooth malt flavor, but this one is labeled wrong. Terrapin is great at making smooth malt beers. The hops go down smooth like the malt. There is a pronounced citrus hops aftertaste, but not a very sharply bitter one. Easily
drinkalbe with good mouthfeel.

The hopsecutioner name is not deserving of this beer. It just does not deliver. The hops are there, but they aren't enough to slay even a semi-hop head like myself. I still think this beer is good, but compared to the hops in a bottle of West Coast IPA, this is laughable.

S- not much for me, id love to rate this more but i just dont get much. Hoppy obviously....

T- Wow! this is great! the hops hit you with the freshness and the bitterness lasts. There is some slight citrus. This is a tasty brew that leaves a craft beer person wanting just one more taste

M- carbonated and flavorful, but for me its a pretty medium flavor. Not overpowering.

D- Great brew and an easy drinker if you are a hop head! Hop heads rejoice, this is a great hoppy beer!

S: A little orange, grass, floral notes.

T: Bitter all the way through. I feel the malt overpowers the hops. I get some orange peel, but I am not really impressed with the overall balance of the beer.

M: Average. Refreshing. Medium Body. Decent Carbonation.

D: an average beer with tons of hops bitterness, but none of the floral citrus notes. Not well balanced. I would not buy this.f

A nice clear Amber color in appearance with minimal head and carbonation.

When you smell this beer it is clear that there is definitly more malt than hops, very sweet caramel aroma. I didn't pick up on any hops by smell alone.

The taste is very malty with a light bitterness at the finish. Although the beer is good tasting I think the name is misleading.

Medium bodied and a bit on the chewy side. I thought it fell a little flat.

Overall I think it is a decent beer but not true to the style it is said to represent. If you like your beer on the maltier side you could probably drink a few of these despite the alchohol content.

poured into a tulip glass, a nice orange hue on the light side with a finger of slowly dissolving head leaving minor lacing

Smells of maybe just a hint of citrus-not a lot of nose to this one at all

Tastes bitter with a faint hint of citrus and pine and an alcohol finish

Mouthful- bubbly with an alcohol sting

Drinkability- not a lot to this one. maybe

Single, twelve-ounce copped from Buy Rite on Oak Tree in South Plainfield. Surprised to see this one there. A super-hopped IPA; classic aromatic aroma and taste bursting with orange peel, clementines, and tangerine nuances. Hopped-up to the max, with a noticeable floral presence as well. This is my rendition of a solid American IPA; high ABV yet alcohol well-masked. I liked this beer; rich, flavorful and satisfying. Great stuff. Recommended.

Poured into my imperial pint glass...

A- Copper color with a pretty large 2 finger head that dissipated very fast, offwhite in color. Very clear and tons of carbonation bubbles seen in the glass. Minimal lacing on the sides.

S- Great aroma here. Spicy and a hint of oranges. Also has a nice lingering fresh cut grass from the hops that mixes well with a solid caramel sweetness to balance the nose.

T/M- The best thing about this beer is that the bitterness is smooth. Its not extremely bitter, but I'm so sick of the IPAs that are trying to be super bitter but its so harsh. This ends with a nice bready/biscuity malt character. Not much caramel sweetness, but the all around earithness of this beer really works. Medium body with medium carbonation bring it all together.

D- Considering this bad boy is 7.3% alcohol, but drinks like 4.5%... VERY drinkable! I could put down 3 or 4 of these because they are so smooth, then get kicked in the face with a buzz. This is a great IPA on the lower end of the IBU scale in today's IPA race. What really appeals to me with this beer is that it is more of the floral/grassy type of IPA. I tend to like the citrus/fruity IPAs almost exclusively.

A - poured a caramel copper with a 1 finger head

S - smells of dank hops with sweet citrus and a bit of caramel

T - starts off with caramel malt. But then the flavor fromw which this beer takes its name come into play with a bunch of pine and grass. Ends bitter, but not too bitter - more sweet than anything.

M - decent body with good carbonation

D - this is a beer I have wanted to try for a while now. Really good earthy ipa that smells dense and tastes delicious. Another great one from Terrapin!

Had on-tap at mellow mushroom colonial, poured into a pint glass

A-Cloudy amber with low visibility, thick 1" off white head, sat for an incredibly long time, stout-esque amount of time, and formed excellent lacing.

S-Hops, fruits, sweet honey smell, hints of a yeasty bready notes or maybe that's my pizza.

T-Hops come out front, not too strong or bitter, just right, with an excellent citrus following and a slight smokey nutty flavoring and very little alcohol taste for its abv, this is an exceptional tasting beer.

M-A lot thicker than I thought it was going to be and I'm ok with that, full bodied feel, with medium carbonation, an incredibly smooth drink.

D-Well I went through 4 of these during trivia night so I'd say it's pretty drinkable, an exceptional beer, full of a couple surprises, that I'll definitely be having again.

A: Clear light amber, dense 1" off white head

Pours a very hazy deep orange with a two fingered cream head that slides down the glass slowly leaving behind some mild lacing.

Aroma has hop oil presence, and some extra sweet malt. Really heavy presence of apple juice.

Tastes like a slightly bitter caramel apple. Spicy. Not really a lot of complexity here and this ranks low on my list of IPAs.

Mouthfeel is pretty light but the beer isn't that easy to drink. Really sweet malt without a lot of balance from the hops presence. Overall, I think a pretty weak IPA and one that I would not pursue again.
