Presentation: Bomber bottle poured into my Smuttynose snifter glass. Served at room temperature.

Appearance: Medium to light brown with a pillowy, two finger, beige head. Good retention. Receded to a thin coating on top.

Aroma: Heavy butterscotch and toffee notes upfront. Really sweet. An almost spicy hop note way in the background.

Taste: Caramel, butterscotch, and toffee notes make for a very sweet profile upfront. The hop notes are way in the background here too. Very sweet, but this is pretty smooth.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and slightly creamy. I am getting an almost feel toward the end of each sip too.

Drinkability: As an imperial Oktoberfest, this is high in ABV. I could barely finish one bomber. I would have preferred about half that.

Overall, an interesting take on the style. Really sweet and pretty smooth considering the ABV. Doubt I would seek this out again, but I enjoyed it enough.

"Boom Shaka-Lager is the next installment in Terrapin's "Side Project" series if beers. This Imperial Lager is made exclusively with German malts, German Hops and a true Bavarian lager yeast strain. While 99% of the beers brewed with Terrapin are ales, we figured we should show some love to the lager style as well. Not that this one-beat, big beer is going to be brewed to a traditional style or anything. Spike's Brewing Words of Wisdom: Guaranteed to turn any Fest Hall Fraulein's head." Brewed in the style of an Oktoberfest/Märzen. Side Project #11 released in May 2010, some bottles are still floating around in the Athens, Georgia area.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to an imperial pint glass. Served north of 53º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Head pours a cream white foam over a deep amber body with a deep haze and ample carbonation. Head retention is quite good, lacing is medium thick and consistent. A nice appearance. 4.25

(Smell) Aroma is largely muddied with time but there is a notable bready sweet malt, a touch of caramel, and a murky grass hop note. Very heavy yeast presence, slightly phenolic and even a touch oxidized. Aroma hasn't maintained well. 2.75

(Taste) Up front caramel and rye bread with a syrupy sweet presence. Sharp alcohol on the finish exposed through a faded body but a residual caramel sweetness still remains for a mildly dry finish. Hop presence is pretty much gone. 2.5

(Mouthfeel) Creamy and smooth with a syrupy sweet finish and booze. Body is heavy for the style, medium/heavy overall. 3.5

(Overall) It's past it's prime, I'm afraid, but still manages to be really sweet and heavily-bodied nonetheless, which isn't all that impressive by German Lager standards. 3

a: deep copper in color with a half inch of sand colored head that settled to a thin ring with moderate lacing.

s: very sweet, malts, hops and sugar.

t: sweet bready malts at first, then turning to a light brown sugar taste with some hops hidden in there and a warming effect from the alochol.

m: full bodied, almost chewy with all the sticky sugar in there. good carbonation, burn on the back end.

o: very strong beer. not well blended, everything jumps out one at a time to let you know it's in there, but it's not a subtly transition.
