Brewed with 10% rye, but an APA at heart.

A hazey yellow/amber beer. Has a nice foamy off white head. The aroma is a pleasant grapefruit hop aroma with a hint of grain sweetness in the background. The flavor starts with a light sweetness that slides smoothly into a nice hop note with a nice clen finish. Should be an excellent beer for hot weather...tasty yet refreshing.

Used to be my goto for pizza lunch with the two wheeler group lunch. A good session beer when on tap. I never cared for it in the bottle. Light brown pour with decent lacing and a spicy rye aroma. I never tasted the Amarillo citrus.

First impression from a 12 fl oz pull-tab can:
"Rye Pale Ale." Brewed with Amarillo hops and malted rye.
Has a dash of spiciness from the rye malt and the Amarillo hops (my favourite varietal) lend it some resinous and floral character that's pleasant but not standout.
Doesn't best Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale, which costs less ($7.59 USD/sixer compared to $8.49 USD/sixer) and has a better hop profile, but it's not a bad brew for what it is.

"Best by 5/11/15"; drank 3/28/15 @ JoJo's.
Drank straight from the bottle; no visual cues.
Fresh marijuana, honey & malt vinegar notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Fresh marijuana & malt vinegar flavors up front; mild honey on the finish.
Unique but not too good; an odd mix.

This is fantastically rough beer. It's got that almost earthy taste to it, a resinous smell, and a great body. My main issue comes with the fact that it's not terribly inviting to look at, as well as it's quite dry, and I found myself reaching for a glass of water at the beer halfway through the drink. A very solid beer though all in all.

Copper colored with a fingernail of eggshell white covering the vast majority of the top. Moderate lacing. I smell nothing initially after a couple of passes. I'm hoping that changes as it warms. I'm tasting a nice even blend of earthy rye and lightly piney hops with some pale malt along for the ride. The piney hops really show at the back of the palate. The mouth is fairly smooth and crisp.

Terrapin Beer Co. "Rye Pale Ale"
12 fl. oz. can, coded "170782 8.24.17" and sampled on 9.03.17
$2 @ Weis, Conshohocken, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Great graphics on the can with a turtle playing the banjo in a field of grain. The label lists it at 5.5% ABV. It's poured a mostly clear deep gold/amber body beneath a short head of off-white foam but the head has run off before I even got to this point. It's malty and some rye is clear in the nose. Floral as well. But where are these promised Amarillo hops though? Ahh, I spoke too soon, there's some orange and light grapefruit in there. They're not bold, but the blend is nice. I like that you can smell the rye, and I'd rather have that than citrusy hops - citrusy hops you can get anywhere these days! On to the flavor, it's similar with more of the orange flavor stepping forward. The rye is clear from start to finish, but mainly in the finish. It's lightly spicy and it helps to balance the lightly sweetish and grainy malt all the way across the palate. A median bitterness balances it, and it finishes with a touch of residual malt that fades to allow the orange and spice to show, and then reappears lingering gently. It's definitely a rye beer, but it's not overly spicy or biting. Nicely done! Really nicely balanced. Medium bodied and gently crisp. An interesting twist on an American pale ale. Unfortunately the lack of head retention and lacing hurt it. Is that perhaps because of the rye? If that's the case maybe I should give it some leniency.

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice somewhat light transparent to somewhat hazy pale brown color leading to light tinges of orange coloring along the sides of the glass. There was a decent light lacing sliding right on into the beer. The smell had a faded sort of rye note to it along with a light floral yet somewhat spiciness. The taste was a combination of the previously mentioned flavors. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body and had a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed fairly good for the style and for me as it was harsh but not overly done. Overall, in my opinion, this was a good Rye Beer I’d have again.
