Big thanks to BC4MFRED1 for the chance!

A - pours amberish red with a decent sized head on it.

S - the nose is sweet, earthy hops with some onion funk and caramel malt. The more this warmed, the more the citrus hops popped.

T - taste is similar. Lots of caramel malts up front give way to a pleasant amount of earthy, citrusy hops. Ends with a sweet coriander and orange rind flavor. I think I missed the fresh part of this beer and the taste suffered a little due to the age. However, it was still a really pleasant beer, just not as hoppy as other wet hop beers I have tried.

M - nice, full, and creamy

D - pretty solid wet IPA. I wish I could have tried it more toward its bottling date.

I picked up this 22oz bottle at the Georgetown Deli (Wilkes-Barre) on 25JAN12, for $9.99. Label says it's made with fresh, wet 2011 Challenger hops. Time to indulge.

I poured 2/3 of the bottle into an imperial nonic. It is a bright, medium golden color, with a slight bit of haze. Carbo is scattered and passive, with very little head to speak of, save for a few white bubbles at the rim. A little lacing is present, though not all too much. The aroma is decent, suggesting a semi-sweet, fruity marmalade. The body is middle of the pack, with the feel being mostly smooth with a bit of light, airiness.

The flavor has some subtle fruity notes, with orange and tangerine coming through, albeit in a mild manner. More easily noted is a bitter hop aspect, a suggestion of earthy spiciness, and a hint of mint lurking in the background. Well, while this may supposedly be fresh, it doesn't present much in the way of "oomph". It's decent, but does not leave you yearning for more; especially at $9.99!! Prosit!!

From notes on 12/15/11:
2011 release; Poured in a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

A - Just over one inch of off-white fluffy head; Clear appearance with a nice caramel/copper color; Moderate lacing

S - Overall faint aroma; Some toffee and caramel sweetness; Very wet smelling grassy, earthy hops

T - This is a unique IPA taste for sure; Up front, there's sweet caramel and toffee that quickly turns to citrusy tones; Spicy, earthy and grassy hops come more in the finish; Just a little bitterness up front that vanishes quickly

M - Some carbonation; Medium bodied; Slightly dry finish that leaves an oily coat on the tongue

O - Overall, I thought this was a very drinkable and unique IPA. The flavor wasn't the most hop heavy that I've had, and the aroma underwhelmed a bit, but the flavor profile was distinctly different with the use of Challenger hops. It brought out a nice sweet, toffee, spicy, earthy flavor that I felt was a good change of pace from what I usually experience in IPA's.

2011 batch brewed with Challenger Hops. Served at Taco Mac Decatur in an 11 oz. glass. Reviewed from Notes.

(Appearance) A Solid clear orange. Very translucent. White cream head with some droopy lacing. A nice complete surface cover drapes the glass. Moderate carbonation on the sides. Darker, wetter and bolder looking than the average IPA. 3.5

(Smell) Smooth laid-back bready wet hop aroma is the dominant smell. Very noticeable bread tones in background for a malty base makes this a calm, but balanced ipa. Aroma is somewhat weak and should be more potent in some regard. 3.5

(Taste) Well-balanced bready malt and hop base and a mildly crisp hop finish. A more malt-heavy character than dry hopped IPAs. Mild and enjoyable but a gradual drinker. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Quite smooth and calm, could be more bold. Alcohol is well hidden. Body is medium, heavy for an IPA due to the malt and wet hop flavor, it's one to drink in smaller portions. 3.5

(Overall) A Mildly enjoyable but not super impressive Terrapin brew. Much more malt heavy in flavor than I'd have hoped for, less hop character. Might get this once a year. 3.5

Pours a pale amber with a large, dense, foamy, off white head that has great retention. The nose is cirtusy and earthy; little to no malt aromas. The flavor is rather subdued; very light, bready malt and very light, citrusy, grassy hops. There are some piny notes as the beer warms. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, well carbonated, and a little crisp at first.

For me this is a pretty underwhelming IPA. It's not bad, but the flavors are light and there's nothing that really grabs my attention. I would definitely go with their Hopsecutioner over this offering.
