Presentation: Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into an Imperial pint glass. Label has the ubiquitous Terrapin turtle, this time dressed as a cow in a farm scene. Seasonal from 2010.
Appearance: Pours with just shy of finger of medium to dark tan head. This settles very quickly, eventually dropping to one little island of foam and a ring around the glass. The beer itself is extremely dark, with just the barest hint of ruby black around the edges. No sediment remains in the bottle.
Smell: Strong aroma of bitter coffee, licorice, and toffee with just a hint of soy sauce.
Taste: Toasted marshmallow flavor upfront with hints of smoke and milk chocolate. This sweetness, albeit mild, is well balanced by a husky graininess of roasted barley that follows.
Mouthfeel: Higher than average carbonation which in turn, kind of detracts from the overall creamy feel expected from a milk stout. Body is somewhat lacking.
Drinkability: Great aroma and great flavor. If only the look and mouthfeel were up to the same level, this would be a knockout. Kind of a moot point, since it is unavailable in my area.
