I ordered this beer at the 5 spot (Atlanta, Little 5 points) because it looked like the most interesting thing they had on tap. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this beer tasted. To me, reminded me of drinking a glass of chocolate milk. Was extremely smooth. I enjoyed every sip. Highly recommend you try this beer if you are a chocolate lover.

With chocolate, coffee, and heavy cream at the forefront, this beer leads a flavorful charge but with medium-full flavors and textures for an even and smooth drinkability.

The beer pours a dark brown hue with perhaps a modest haze that's difficult to assess because of the darkness. Formitalbe head formation leads to sturdy retention and clinging lace- all reinforcing the beer's character and quality.

Aromas of cocoa, molasass, walnuts, and cream all mix in a somewhat grainy scent. With no esters, phenolics, or off aromas, the beer is simple and pure with the classic Milk Stout profile.

Flavors of caramel/molasass start the sweeter start with a mix of heavy cream, coffee, cocoa, and nuttiness to follow. Perhaps with a the balance of the beer tilting toward the chocolaty portions, the milk chocolate flavors take a slight lead in the taste. Low on hops, the beer's hop profile offers balance and maybe a mild earthy taste without interference with the silky, chocolate taste.

Creamy and full up front, the beer releases its carbonation slowly and evently toward a cocoa powder and grainy-sweet finish that never really dries, but provides a lingering chocolate and nutty linger.

A very nice Milk Stout that pushes the chocolate malts without over-doing it. With a dash of experiment and a dose of Terrapin identity, the beer holds firm to the parameters of Milk Stouts.

Thanks to Chris (spycow) for sharing this brew. Served in a Russian River tulip glass.

A - Pours with a finger of tan foam that settles to a thin ring and some patchy film, but minimal lace. Dark brown body that is lighter at the fringes.

S - Smell is very strange. Tar, alcohol, and dark chocolate, and very little lactose character at all.

T - Taste is more in line with my expectations. Straight-up lactose sugar, milk chocolate, and some faint roast and coffee as well. Very sweet, but on point for the style.

M - Smooth, Nestle Quik texture. Lower carbonation that is style-appropriate. Pretty enjoyable.

D - Too sweet to drink a lot of this one. Glad they put this one in 12oz bottles as it'd be hard to kill a bomber with anything less than a few friends without getting diabetes. Weird smell is also unpleasant, but if you hold your nose this is a pretty solid brew.

On tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Greensboro.Poured into a standard pint glass a pretty much opaque black with a thinner deep mocha colored head atop.Roasty aromas with coffee, and bitter chocolate playing a large role,I gotta say this was quite boozy on the palate for the abv.,quite a sweet alcohol zip in the finish.Roasted nicely along with a nice creamy texture to the feel, the alcohol sweetness and bitter chocolate round out the palate.A pretty solid sweet stout although again ,its a bit boozy in my opinion.

Pours black, black and more black - only a thin sliver of dark-ass brown can be seen on the very top of the brew when held to the light. Otherwise - a black hole. Light-ish tan head piles up quickly, lasts for a while, and looks creamy as hell. Aroma on this beer is a little light at first, hard to get anything useful out of it, but picks up about 5 to 10 minutes in. Sweet chocolates up front; milky, creamy, and sugary. Lots of sweetness in the form of roasted malts and barley as well. Delicate, soft, and sweet - not much bitterness or harshness, if any, to be detected (at least on the aroma). Once this baby warms up a little bit, the nose becomes even more powerful, yet remains mellow and easy-going. Definitely a nice treat.

The taste is blueprinted by a map of roasted barley; high on the roast, full of sweetness, almost sugary, but far from cloying. No real char or ashiness from the malts, perfect for this style. Dense, milky chocolates - I'd like to say "bittersweet" chocolates, but they're really not bitter at all, just sweet and a little toasty. Takes like a coffee with cream and sugar, but substitute cocoa and roasted barley for the coffee. Surprisingly enough, I'm not getting any real coffee flavor from this. I think in almost any stout, you can probably convince yourself there are "coffee" flavors in there, but really, there are none jumping out here, so I won't even go there. Oats, grains, and sweetness abound. Creamy, silky and borderline thick on the palate, ending with a mild nuttiness and a delicate sweetness with an ever-so-slight bitter twinge from the roasted malt.

Very good milk stout. Sweet without being too sweet, easily drinkable and enjoyable all the way through. I've been pretty impressed with the Terrapin beers I've had so far... I must seek out more.

This is one of those brews that really takes you by surprise.

Served from a tap in a pint glass, this arrives to the table very dark brown to black, not letting light through the glass. There was a nice bit of head on the glass when it was brought to the table but it dissipated pretty quickly.

Smells are a bit chocolatey, somewhat roasty, but mostly on the malt side.

Flavor is sweet, much as you would expect from a milk stout. What is different is on that back end, the finish that goes right on into the after-taste. It's a sort of 'chocolate milk' sort of flavor that is enhanced by the sweetness and smooth mouthfeel of the brew. It's kinda crazy, but it really makes you want to take another pull.

Overall, this is a really enjoyable brew. It isn't something I can sit down and drink all night, but whenever I do have it, it goes down smooth, quick, and easy.

12oz brown bottle with a vintage date.

Massive light brown head, stout black color. Iced hot cocoa, mild coffee, faint brown sugar, malt sweetness, and bread curst in the nose. Smooth, very creamy, roasted grain meets chocolate sweetness, modest hopping, sufficient bitterness, kiss of alcohol, finishes slightly sweet.

More or less what I expect in a Milk Stout is present, other elements ... mainly the chocolate character just add a pleasant flare to it all. Would love to see a version with chili peppers as well. They need to bring this one back.
