Overall subpar after what seems to be a lot of hype and a cool name. Pours black with some brownish fizz that isn't anything special. Sweet mocha almost fake smell of overly sugary drink mix. Taste is very one dimensional sweet sugars with a hint of chocolate but no real roastiness and tastes like overly fake version of a chocolate milk. Feel is a bit think with lackluster carb. This was a 2013 bottle so maybe it's better fresh.

Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Tan, finger width head exhibits sub-par retention and results in a broken layer of surface suds. Fair lacing left on the glass with good stick.

Smell - Strong chocolate character, hitting on milk chocolate and deeper fudge. Tantalizing aroma.

Taste - Flavor doesn't match, unfortunately. Much less complex. Mostly milk chocolate character, with light caramel around the edges. Ghostly vanilla? Finishes much the way it begins, and not much else to it.

Mouthfeel - More light than medium in body with fair, tingly carbonation. A bit watery for the style. Probably the worst aspect of the brew.

Overall - A bit disappointing after such a promising aroma. Doesn't hit on a 2nd level, and the body just kills any redeeming value. Definitely wouldn't buy again, especially considering the lack of Cali distribution.

Bottle poured into a snifter.

Has a very nice look upon first pour. Looks almost thicker than it should for the ABV. Smell is awesome. Like moohoo chocolate milk and sweet cream. Taste is just as delicious, lots of chocolate milk, sweet cream, sugar and yumminess.

I went into this beer with mild expecations as I have never had a milk stout taht I felt worthy of much praise but I must say that this is easily the best milk stout I have had.

Dark pour, with only a minimum white lacing around the upper rim.

Smell is in your face chocolate and sweetness

Taste is a little less chocolate than the smell indicates but great almost dessert quality taste.

extremely smooth all the way too, easy drinking, great tasting bad ass milk stout.

A- pours a dark brown near black, with some light showing through. 1 finger dark tan head that doesn't hang around long.

S- Dark chocolate, roasted malts, and a touch of lactose. Not nearly as big on the nose as I expected. Pretty weak chocolate aroma to b honest.

T- Sweet, milky cocoa initially, then abundant amount of roasted and charred malts. Maybe too much of the adjunct ingredients gives this one more of an artificial flavor to me.

M- Mid body, a little thin for my taste. Very low carbonation.

O- Meh...there are a number of others of the style that I would try before this one. Pretty average in my opinion.

12oz bottle served in a Prairie teku
2012 Vintage
Cheers to Yoshi Optimator for this one.

A - Pours a very dark brown with a small khaki head that forms a thin collar.

S - Brown bread, rye, lightly roasted grain, Whoppers candy, muted aromas of dark chocolate cake.

T - Follows the nose with grainy brown bread, faint chocolate, minor hints of coffee, some oxidation, some roasty bitterness on the semi-dry finish.

M - Medium weight, creamy carbonation, semi-dry finish.

Good flavors but everything seems muted due to its age. Oxidation is very noticeable and doesn't add any good qualities to the beer. Drink this one fresh.

Well, this is about what I had expected. In short, this is a very solid milk stout. In a bit longer way, it's a very easy drinking brew with a moderate thickness with a velvety feel. The flavor is pretty heavy on the chocolate, but there's also a roasty/coffee/almost ash flavor on the end that keeps this from being overly sweet. The aroma gives off a good amount of sweetness, but it's not as sweet on the tongue. One of the better milk stouts I've had.

Big thanks to BubalooBrewMaster for this one.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brownish black with over an inch of thick brown head. Minimal lacing. The aroma is a big whiff of chocolate with some earth and light roasted malts. The taste is all chocolate milk upfront. Some earth and roasted malts but this one is dominated by the chocolate. A bit more of an alcohol presence than I expected. Finishes with more chocolate milk flavor. Tons of carbonation. Overall, this is a great chocolaty Milk Stout as advertised.

A - Black, thick tan head, spotty lacing that doesn't stick.

S - Honestly, all I get I chocolate. Just big chocolate aroma with some sweetness that gets in the nose.

T - This was the best part, but a bit of a letdown. It's has likeness to a chocolate soda to me. Chocolate, some soda like sweetness, with an earthy hop presence at the end. Not overly complex but what it does is chocolate, and it does that well.

M - Surprisingly high level of carbonation comes off sharp and takes away from any creaminess I expect from the style.

O - This was a letdown for me. One dimensional and forgettable with elements that seemed misplaced for a milk stout. Not bad, but for something sold in a 4 pack for the price I'll take a 6 pack of left hand milk stout when in the mood next time.

Beer is jet black with a large tan head. Head fades steadily, good lacing.

Nose contains roasted malt, lactose and chocolate. Smells a bit like Nestle Quik.

Taste is consistent with the nose. Chocolate, lactose and roasted malt. Tastes creamy. Sweet, though there is a bit of bitterness from the chocolate.

Full bodied, very highly carbonated. Irritating.

Overall, pretty good. Certainly on the sweet side, not something I could drink much of, but pretty good.

Looks great from the dark brown bottle. I love love love chocolate! Not bitter. Creamy feel in the mouth but not overwhelming creaminess. Goes down easy even after it warms up and is no longer ice cold. No nasty, stale after taste that lingers on and on and on. In the moment beer. Smell? Smells heavenly! They should make a Moo Hoo spray!

This beer was everything the label promised. Delicious chocolate milk scent, one finger thick frothy head, and semi sweet milk chocolatey flavor. Not a whole lot going on aside from the chocolate milk flavors, maybe a little bit of malt in the background, but it's a pretty straightforward beer. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel, chocolate milk flavor with mild undertones of roasted malt, and superb drinkability. Pretty delicious if you ask me.

I like the whole concept of chocolate milk stout. I love chocolate milk and this stout is a replacement for a yoo-hoo.

The beer is definitively a stout, although a very mild one. It is not bitter, but it leads you to a bitter-less climax. As I drink this stout, my brain is expecting some type of bitterness to hit, but that never happens, hence the chocolate milk name. That said, I didn't taste the chocolate either.

It is not a heady beer, I think this one is the best introduction to stouts, possible as how not to make them, but also as a stout that is not heavy, bitter, and shocking.

One thing is for sure, something needs to be done with the aroma. It is practically non-existent.

12oz bottle poured into a Guinness pint.

A: Black pour with garnet hues and good clarity. Creamy khaki colored head drops quickly and leaves only a few small spots and wisps of lacing.

S: Thin woody roast, hint of cola, rich cocoa nib aroma, vague hint of dark stone fruits, sugary lactose.

T: Cola and a faint woody and nutty roast are quickly covered by an indulgent chocolate blanket. Flash of cherry. Sugary. More woody roast pokes through now and again. Roast, chocolate, and cola on the finish.

M: Lighter medium body. Thin creaminess, a bit watery. Lightly prickling carbonation.

O: It feels rather pedestrian, just a step or two above mediocrity. An easily approachable beer, but there isn't much that makes me want to come back to it.

A: Pours dark, black with a brown head.

S: Lots of sweet milk chocolate in the nose, with a little fruity hop presence, and not much else.

T: Hop presence comes out first, with citrus peel and pine, followed by a big dose of milk chocolate leading into a roasty coffee/dark chocolate finish that becomes dry, but not unpleasantly dry.

M: Full bodied, creamy but not quite smooth.

O: Delicious. It's not as good as wake n bake, but if you can find it, I definitely recommend picking one up.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. 2013 batch. It was a gift. Sampled on January 31, 2014. My last new beer for the month I suppose.

This pours a very dark brown to just about black. Small tan head that fades.

The aroma is explosive with melted milk chocolate with any malt or hop character coming up far in the background.

The body is medium to bold. Very creamy like melted chocolate.

That chocolate flavor is overwhelming.l I thin it is supposed to be, which is why I rated this rather high. Like drinking a chocolate milk with a mildly bitter finale. I could have this many times - but won't since it was gift from a friend.

Pours used motor oil black with a normal amount of head and lacing. Lacing lasts a normal amount of time. Moderate nose of sweet and dark chocolate over a faint roast. Slightly less than medium bodied with normal carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. The taste is a bit subdued, but of chocolate over a very light roast and sweetness. A smooth, yet clean, finish that hints of roast. This would be a good starter stout, but falls short of excellence - more body and flavor are needed.

Have always had my eyes on this when in Terrapin distro areas but never got around to it. Cousin reminded me of it when in Tampa, thanks Sonny!

A- Poured from the 12oz bottle into a snifter with a black body, not quite as thick as an RIS but still midnight black. Semi-aggressive pour allows a nice creamy thick mocha tan head to form to about one finger. Good head retention and lace starts as a ring at the top and some nice webs result below.

S- A nice roast forward milk stout with a clear chocolate addition above that. It does not feel artificial but reminds me of a good milk chocolate bar. Mostly malty with roast barley, caramel and some toasted hints.

T- Mostly follows what the nose brings but some yeast influence comes out. The yeast brings just a bit of a fruity and fresh baked bread feel but this is far beyond the dominant malts. Roast chocolate malts, milk chocolate, lactose sweetness, toasted nuttiness and slight caramel are in the forefront.

MF- Medium thickness overall with just a bit of creaminess to it. Carbonation is at a lower to medium level and makes it all feel just a bit to watery somehow. Roast bitterness lingers in the finish.

One of the better chocolate forward, lower-ABV stouts I can think of. A lot of vanilla and cocoa beers take on an artificial feel or the flavor just doesn't blend in, this one has a nice balance. The body is just a tiny bit thinner than I would like but the flavor is better than good.

Pour is a dark black with a deep caramel head. Nose has a heavy roast that really dominates and doesn't allow much chocolate, the hints I get are bitter and dry chocolate. Taste has much more chocolate, the body gets very thin towards the back with the roast lingering through a short and under carbonated finish. The roast doesn't really come through the flavor (just lingers after the finish). There is some rich milk chocolate but still a fair bit of dry and bitter chocolate. Not very well done.

The beer comes in a black with a fluffy brown head.

The aroma has milk chocolate, cocoa powder, roasted malt.

The flavor follows with chocolate milk, cocoa powder, a bit of roasted coffee. Almost a chocolate milk “soda.” A slight roasty bitterness on the finish. A medium plus amount of carbonation. Mouthfeel is light plus.

A very smooth milk stout. A bit light on flavor.

"Seasonal 2013." Cute graphic of their mascot turtle in a cowsuit complete with prominent udders, holding a sheaf of grain.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a tall tumbler.

a: Black with a hint of clear ruby at the bottom, topped by a two finger thick brown head which receded rather quickly to a thin surface foam film and a little lacing.

s: Chocolate.

t: Milk chocolate over a thin dark malt base. Chocolate flavor seemed artificial at first, although we are assured on the label it comes from "cocoa nibs and shells."

m: Light to moderate, light for a stout, verging on watery.

o: A different-tasting chocolate stout, more watery than milky, but easy-drinking and becomes more pleasant. First impression is novelty, then a bit grating, then smoother and more pleasant.

12 oz. bottle obtained on trade (thanks, GMRFx!), unknown bottling date but 20122 vintage, poured into my *** snifter glass, drank 19/14 over ~30 minutes

A: 3/3 - pitch black, no clarity, poured with a creamy mahogany head that settled into a subtle glass lacing with some mild froth on top. moderate alcohol legs, low-to-moderate carbonation

S: 10/12 - lots of milk chocolate, Yoo-Hoo, marshmellow and some coffee notes, but the star of the show is certainly chocolate

T: 18/20 - on the anterior tongue, there's a soft bitterness supplied by the chocolate and roasted malts; in the middle of the mouth, there's a subtle creaminess with a chocolate-caramel sweetness; albeit there is some alcohol, the booze is not especially present

M: 4/5 - creamy but thinner than I expected in an American sweet stout; again, moderate alcohol body and subtly inviting aftertaste

O: 8/10 - I have had it before but this experience with 2+ years on the beer really solidified the quality of this example of an American sweet stout with an emphasis on chocolate; cheers!

Poured from a bottle dated 12/15/13 so relatively fresh, into a tulip glass

A - Black, one finger head that dissipates almost immediately. No lace to speak of

S - Chocolate, lactose, but overall somewhat muted. Hoping for a little more but not much of an aroma on this until... it warms! Smell now shines. Sweet malts and chocolate and vanilla, very nice

T - Dark and milk chocolate, cocoa, lactose, roasted malts, light coffee, hints of vanilla in the finish

M - Pretty smooth but a thin and carbonated feel, rolls off the tongue nicely

O - Pretty solid offering, nothing spectacular. Has a good mix of sweetness and ABV. As it warms im finding it to be a more well rounded beer but it feels too close to chocolate soda for me

Pours black with a quick 1/2 finger tan head. Aromas of roasted malt and chocolate. A slight crispness to it. Taste of chocolate...well more cocoa if you know what I mean...more raw chocolate than say Hershey...a bit of roasted malt and milkyness as well. Its really smooth and super easy to drink. Really nice milk stout. Not usually a fan, but this is nice. Would love to have this on cask.

Bottle from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a solid dark brown with the faintest of garnet at the edges and a smallish tan head that doesn't stick around long. Aromas of caramel, chocolate, and hints of vanilla and creme. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Creamy rich milk chocolate beverage. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy mouthfeel. Decent drinker that paired well with some holiday candy.
