A. Inky black and a booming three finger dark khaki head explodes from a careful pour. Head quickly settles to a half finger. Very good lacing. Excellent.

S. Milk chocolate and a sugary, fruity sweetness that is characteristic of the milk stout style. A sweet creaminess. Light roasted coffee and dark chocolate also appear in the background. Good, but light and fairly one note.

T. Meh, some roasted coffee, light chocolate milk powder, and creamy-sweet lactic notes. Truly does taste quite a bit like a chocolate milk stout, but it's a little thin.

M. Way too highly carbonated for the style, which makes it hard to discern the flavors. The heavy carbonation gives a wateriness to the whole affair. Really expected a thicker and more cloying mouthfeel.

O. There are definitely some mouthfeel issues here that impact the experience. Also, the beer lacks some complexity, but it's also 6.0% so that may have something to do with it. As it is, Terrapin's Moo Hoo is a solid milk stout that seemingly accomplishes what it sets out to do...drink like a chocolate milk beer. But there are better and more complex sweet stouts available. Worth trying? Absolutely. Worth buying an entire 4 pk? I think not.

12oz bottle opened on 5.6.12

A - Pours a dark coffee brown with a very thin dark tan head that fades to the edges very quickly.

S - Coffee and milk chocolate.

T - Very similar to the smell, but a bit strong on the coffee side.

D - Lower carbonation and a medium body.

O - Ok, but I didn't love it. I think it has lost a bit of it's punch.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, received in a beer of the month 6 pack from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, Virginia, into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours pitch black with very little brown head. Smells of dark roasted grain very richly, with nice coffee hints. Tastes of coffee, dark roasted malt, and a little hint of milk. Beer goes down very smooth, good carbonation, clean finish. Overall, a very good beer.

This beer tastes like alcoholic yoo-hoo! I am not kidding! This is a kids alcoholic chocolate milk drink! Seriously, it is pretty good. Nice smooth taste, plenty of chocolate...

A: Hazy Brown, like chocolate milk!
S: Smoooth!! Nice and silky
T: Great, really nice.
M: See smell
O: Really good, a nice drinkable chocolate beer stout!

A: Pitch-black pour with a good sized dense light brown head. Fades very slowly.

S: Milk chocolate abound. Very creamy. Hints of char and coffee but mostly the chocolate. It's like (cold) hot fudge in a glass.

T: Again, boatloads of milk chocolate. Like thinned-out hot fudge. Some char and bitter coffee in the aftertaste. Creamy and milky throughout.

M: Medium mouthfeel and very smooth.

O: A very sweet and creamy chocolate stout for sure. Not overpowering but definitely a prominent chocolate flavor in this milk stout. Delicious. A must-have for the chocolate or milk stout lover (and especially for both!).

Thanks to mjw52 for hooking me up with a couple of these in a trade.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: It has a pitch black color with a khaki colored head that reduces to a thin ring rather quickly. It leaves behind some spotted lacing.

S: A malt dominant aroma with roasted and chocolate malts. A significant amount of sweetness is noticeable due to milk chocolate and lactose aromas.

T: Similar to the aroma but with more sweetness. The milk chocolate and lactose are really amped up here. Roasted malts make an appearance as well.

M: Medium to heavy bodied and velvety smooth. It has a low amount of carbonation and drinks very easily.

O: This is a very good milk stout. Sweet and very smooth. I haven't been disappointed by terrapin yet and look forward to trying more from them.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into pint glass.

A: Deep deep dark brown, very nearly opaque. 1/2" head that is a medium tan. The head stays throughout with some lacing

S: A bit muted overall – chocolate with coffee aroma (what did you expect?).

T: taste is chocolate, cacao, sweet but not cloyingly so. There is some alcohol bite at the end.

M: Mild bitter aftertaste (like after eating dark chocolate). Very smooth, creamy mouthfeel; decent amount of carbonation for the style.

O: A good solid beer, and I think an excellent example of style. Personal preference, though, is that it's nothing I'd specifically seek out again.

Black pour yields a viscous body with mild brownish head. Poor retention & lace.

Plenty of lactose & milk chocolate in the nose. Also smells of "artificial" dark chocolate, if that makes any sense.

Sweet, cheap chocolate flavor is abundant. It's not bad, but you know exactly what it is every time you take another sip. Silky, full body is this brew's strong point.

If that artificially-sweetened elementary school chocolate milk from your childhood met beer, the result would be Moo-Hoo.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a mug.

It pours out deep brown with a finger of head. The aroma is great, it's got roastiness, chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of lactose. More of the sweetness and vanilla come through on the taste, with rich milk chocolate backing it up. The roast is kicked more to the back to help temper everything. The mouthfeel is smooth, thinner, and lightly carbonated, and the drinkability is very good. Overall, it's a great milk stout. Looking forward to trying my other bottle with a Wake n' Bake.
