S: Cocoa and classic milk stout aroma, some rootbeer with some liquorice.

L: Very dark brown, almost black. Creamy tan head that dissipates quickly.

T: Vanilla up front with some cocoa and lactose. Low bitterness with a pleasant cocoa/milk chocolate taste. Finishes with some lactose and hints of cocoa. Semi-sweet finish.

M: Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel.

Pretty good, I still don't care for milk stouts that much, but this is the best one i've had to date.

A: Dark chocolate, opaque body. Two finger, darker-than most head which dwindles to film on the surface once I begin imbibing.

S: Milk chocolate and maltballs.

T: A bit more complex than the smell. Starts off with a bit of lactose. Towards the middle I get the malt balls, and then some semi-sweet chocolate notes join in towards the end for that added complexity. There is a tad of alcohol present if I search for it, which is rather silly for a 6% abv brew.

M: A bit over-carbonated. Doesn't bother me too much, I'd just like a more full feel in my mouth. (That's what she said)

O: I like stouts, but don't particularly love coffee, so this is right up my alley. Reminded me of Young's Double Chocolate, though truth be told I haven't had that one for a year plus.

This has lots of flavor but not the high abv % that often comes with it, and the carbonation probably makes this beer more sessionable than if it had a more proper mouthfeel. Definitely glad I got a four-pack.

Pours black with one fingered tan head in Stone Imperial Russian Stout tulip.

Smell is chocolate milk with a hint of bubble gum.

Taste is heavy with sweet chocolate (definitely like chocolate milk). Mild bitter finish. No coffee flavor that I can appreciate.

Mouthfeel is a little more watery than I expected. Carbonation is moderate.

Overall this is good but was expecting more body.

Poured from a 12oz bottle to a Dogfish Head Signature Glass.

Color: Black with a chocolate head.

Smell: Chocolate and toasted malts at first. Followed with coffee.

Taste: Chocolate and coffee up front now. Followed with the toasted malts.

Mouthfeel: Great carbonation, Smooth and creamy with a light dry finish.

Overall: Medium bodied with a nice balance. Reminds me a little of Left Hand Milk Stout. Both great stouts for sure. Terrapin has been doing it's thing lately! Cheers.

Beer pours a very dark black with about a half fingers worth of brown head.

Beer smells of sweet milk chocolate. A slight hint of roasted malts as well.

Beer taste very similar to chocolate milk. Very sweet chocolate taste with hints of vanilla as well. Very unique and delicious taste.

Mouthfeel is appropriately thick and very milky. Very pleasant.

Overall a very unique and great tasting stout.

Poured into a Weyerbacher tulip glass.

Out of the bottle there was a thin finger of cocoa head which reduced to a frosting of the surface rather quickly. There wasn't much lacing left on the glass. The body was coffee black and wasn't overly thick in appearance. Smelled strongly of chocolate, brown sugar, and roasted malt. The overall aroma was intensely sweet, which was very appealing. The taste had most of the same characteristics as the smell; lots of sweet chocolate up front with some roasted malt bitterness and a sugary finish. I also detected a slight trace of a metallic taste - not sure if this was an unwanted off taste or if it was a biproduct of the chocolate characteristics. Mouthfeel was fairly light and watery, with virtually no carbonation. This was probably the most disappointing aspect to me - I feel like a creamy medium weight would have nicely complimented the taste.

Overall, the smell and taste were very pleasant and fit what I was expecting based on the name. I enjoyed this beer, and while there were some aspects that left me wanting a little more (a creamier mouthfeel would have been great, and slightly more balanced taste with a little less sweetness and more hoppy bitterness), I wouldn't have a problem drinking it again.

A - poured a deep dark brown with an inch of tan/brown head

S - smells like caramel/chocolate milk. scents of molasses, honey, toasted oats

T - slightly smokey hint to it. a robust sweet caramel chocolatey experience. this is by far a favorite.

M - slightly fizzy, very creamy and smooth on the palate. medium body.

O - this surprised the hell out of me. i remember having a stout of theirs a while ago and wasn't all that impressed. this was all around a great beer. if anything, i wish it had a better pour - it'd be nice if it looked as great as it tasted. edit: seems like 2012 had more head than the 2011 release. definitely looked better this time around.

Pours inky and dark as the night with a half finger of brown head with a hard pour. The foam fades to thinly cover the beer. Reminds me of a double stout in appearance. Dark, roasty, high percentage cacao chocolate, and a hint of caramel in the nose. Carbonation comes off metallicy, not unlike my early homebrewed porters. Very dark chocolate hits the tongue first, rich with roasty characteristics. Countered with lightness, similar to a porter in feel, that lightens the body. Aftertaste is very fleeting, hardly there. Hardly bitter at all. Low in viscosity, it's hard to call this a stout. Easily drinkable with a dry finish.

I never would have been able to place that feel if I didn't know it was a Milk Stout. There is a lightness that must come from the lactic acids similar to what I get in milk (always 1% for those keeping track). My first Milk Stout. Interesting. I'll have to try another so I can compare this one against something.

12oz. bottle served into a tulip glass

Pours a pretty-much black color. It's lighter brown around the edges but not that much lighter. A nice, one-finger head the color of camel hair sits on top and sticks around all leisurely like. Adequate lacing, too.

Chalky cocoa powder is the first thing that you smell; that this beer is brewed with real cocoa is immediately noticeable. There's some alcohol notes here too, along with faint dark fruits. Very malty. Hold your nose further back from the glass and you pick up on commercial milk chocolate (though not the spoiled smell that Hershey's has).

The taste follows the nose to a T. There's lots of very nutty malt flavor that is bolstered by a chocolate flavor that is not unlike that of Boulevard Chocolate Ale. Not the wheat part or the Belgian yeast part of BLVD's beer, but the rich and fruity flavor -- fruity in the sense that only chocolate can be; the flavor of high-end chocolate. I feel like I can taste some alcohol here, despite the beer being only 6% ABV. There's a slightly chalky aftertaste but the beer finishes sweet overall. The mouthfeel isn't all that thick, but there's heft enough for the chocolate flavors to shine.

Overall, this is an impressive Milk Stout. It is a chocolate-forward beer without being gimmicky. I'd rather drink this than more popular Milk/Sweet Stouts like, say, Left Hand Milk Stout. One of Terrapin's most impressive offerings.
