12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a very dark brown color. It's not quite as ultra-opaque as the WnB I had just before this, but it's still dark enough to block out the light. The head is a two finger mocha shade with meh retention. There is a bit of lace left on the glass, at least.

S: Surprisingly nutty in terms of aroma. There also seems to be a combination of roasted and charred malts, as well. I don't really pick up a lot of chocolate on the nose.

T: Wait, did I say that I don't pick up a lot of chocolate aromatically? Because the chocolate is really battering the palate here. It opens the flavor profile like a wrecking ball - almost as if Terrapin melted a 70% dark cocoa bar into the beer before bottling it. The midtaste brings a lot of lactic cream in a balanced manner. It's sweet enough to make this a slow sipper rather than a chugger or even a gulper. At least the lactose never comes across as being acidic, sour, or harsh.

M: The body comes across as thicker and more syrupy than it really is, which I would attribute to the finishing cream flavor. There's some finishing astringency, too, but it's not dry enough finish-wise to balance it out. Carbonation is mediocre.

O: I feel like milk stouts are the Tito Jackson of the stout family - but this one hits my chocolate tooth enough to separate it from the pack. Totally rock solid as long as you don't expect it to be WnB.

I usually forgo this one in favor of Wake-n-Bake since they come out so close to one another, but I made sure I didn't miss out this year...

A - A bit less than a finger's worth of ultra fizzy light brown colored head comprised of medium sized bubbles... Don't blink because you may miss it as retention is next to none... A small splotch of lacing in the center of the glass and a thin collar are all that are left... The color is a deep dark brown... Lots of small bubbled quick paced carbonation can be seen towards the top of the glass...

S - The nose is dominated by lightly roasted malts and an array of chocolate... An even mix of dark and milk chocolates... Some faint coffee notes as well... Fairly one dimensional, but pleasant...

T - The nose was a very good indication of what to expect on the palate... Roasted malts... Dark chocolate... A hint of coffee... Very light sweet milk chocolate notes... Perhaps just the slightest of hop bites...

M - Medium bodied... Mostly smooth... Lightly carbonated... The finish is a bit chalky...

D - Quaffable... A solid brew... Much more roasted character that I typically equate with the style... Nothing really note worthy, but solidly above average... While I won't avoid again in the future, I will not forgo Wake-n-Bake in favor of this seasonal counterpart...

I poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a standard pint. The pour is deep black, thin tan head. The aroma is very sweet, lots of chocolate. The flavor is very chocolately, no bitterness, it has a lingering chocolate sweetness. It is medium/light in body, carbonation is average. An enjoyable, very drinkable beer. Would be a great after dinner drink.

12oz bottle. 2012.

A: Pours black with brownish hues.

S: Dark chocolate, light roasted grain, some yeastiness.

T: Slightly bitter cocoa and light lactose first, then some mild roasted malt. Very slight hop bitterness rounds it out mid-palate. Sweet chocolate lingers in the finish.

M: Between thin and medium-bodied, a little creamy.

O: I like that they didn't go over the top with the sweetness, but it is a bit light in feel and taste.

This was a 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a dark dark brown that is almost an opaque black with light lacing. It smells of warm malts and faint whiffs of chocolate. The taste is amazingly chocolate with a great finish. It ha a full body and great carbonation. I would highly recommend.
