A: Overall, a nice, cloudy-hazy golden pour with a quickly vanishing thin layer of head.... like a small under water "chimney [like in the ocean...], bubbles seem to endlessly rise to the top...

S: Citrus and hops on the initial whiff... clean grapefruit... and wheat-yeast notes....an interesting blend....

T: Grapefruit bitterness alongside a mixture of pine & orange rinds, with a twist of sweetness.

M: Bitter back end, a nice body with good carbonation.

O: Pretty tasty. An interesting take on a hefe/wheat IPA... (522 characters)

Pours a fairly bright yellow/gold color with a frothy two-finger off white head that is both slow and reluctant to recede. Sweet smells of wheat, heffenwiesen yeast dominate the aroma, with only a slight wisp of citrus hops present in the nose. First sip is surprisingly light bodied but rather refreshing. The wheat is very much there but not to the point of being over powering. Though light bodied, the beer is fairly well balanced. Personally I would prefer more malt and more hops. The 7.3% ABV is well hidden. (515 characters)

Bottle shared by Radek, 650ml bottle into a tulip.

Pours an unfiltered yellowish brown, with a light creamy coloured head. A collar and thin film of retention is left behind. Nose is hoppy in the tropical fruit sense, an interesting combination between both parties advertised by the bottle (IPA and hefeweizen). Tropical notes, pine, pineapple, passionfruit with some milder banana phenolics and spice. Maybe a hint of honey too? Lots going on there. Taste is wheaty and dry, with some tropical notes retained at the forefront of the palate. Bitter finish, with more of the drying sensation. Medium high carbonation. Some interesting features to this one, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea (I like something more along the lines of the Schneider-Brooklyner Hofenweiss for this style). Moderately drinkable nonetheless and nice to try. (839 characters)

A: A cloudy sort of orange amber pour. Big fluffy off-white head with great lacing and retention.

S: Delicious! Tropical fruit, banana, cloves, wheat and some sort of pine hop under it. Very sweet smelling.

T: Smooth citrus and wheat up front. Finish is a strong but quick sudden burst of bitter pine taste. Very interesting.

M: Pretty smooth, fairly low carbonation. Tingly pine bitterness in the aftertaste hits pretty hard.

O: A very interesting experiment indeed. Honestly the smell is twice as good as the taste, but it's still not bad by any means. More of a credit to the smell than anything. It's basically a piney IPA with the added smoothness and fruit of a Hefe. (677 characters)

Poured from a 22oz bottle into 5 juice glasses

Appearance - Slow forming, heavy thick head... with a thick finish.
Smell - Orange peel, delicious hops.
Taste - Doesn't quite live up to the smell, but still strong orange rind taste - like a rotten orange smells.
Mouthfeel - Light, but very lingering.
Overall - I don't love it. Not what I expected for the claimed style. It does have thick head though. (403 characters)

22oz bomber received as an extra in a trade with a generous BA thanks!

Appearance: Pours a hazy rusty orange with a 1 finger white crown that displays minimal retention and moderate lace.

Smell: Nice clove, bubblegum, and herbal hop combo. Some sweetness from the malt as well as some graininess. I really like the nose.

Taste: Much flatter than the nose. Mainly just some bittering hops that dominate and take away from that nice fruity malt sweetness that the nose featured.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with slightly seltzer like carbonation.

Overall: Easy to drink but its just not that tasty so I wouldn't want more than one. (632 characters)

On-Tap...

Poured into a tulip glass.

Hazy and cloudy golden/tannish color. Nice lacing and head sticks around for almost the entire glass. Really nice looking brew. Smell was grainy and wheaty with an almost fruit like scent. The taste was really really different. I applaud Terrapin for making such a tasty brew. It has a nice bitter hop punch but also that nice citrusy and lemony flavor that good wheat beers have. Downright piney and tropical at times- but you still know that you are drinking an IPA. Medium bodied and full flavored. Great beer. I loved it. (564 characters)

Deep hazy honey colour, decent white head, good lace. Smell is of tropical fruit and hops, banana, slightly spicy, honey and pine notes. Taste is of pine and banana, clove, dry and yeasty, big hop presence and tropical fruit. Big feel, medium carb, full body. Really good stuff, got through my glass quickly, could drink lots of this no problem. Thanks to Radek for sharing. (374 characters)

Taken from notes produced over the weekend.

A--Poured a light orange, straw-like color. Had a semi-fluffy stark white head that dissipated, but had nice retention.

S--First thing I thought of was that it smells like the Terrapin Brewery. It had a nice, clean smell. Hints of sour mash (like when at a distillery). The wheat played wonderfully with the hops. Nice sweet finish of pine and fresh grass.

T--The wheat is present. It is a lot like a wheat beer, but the hosp of the IPA comes through nicely at the end. Little less citrus and pine than I normally like in my IPAs.

M--Light-bodied with a bit of carbonation. Nice clean taste, but a bit on the watered down side.

O--This is a good side project. I haven't been able to say that recently. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. It is probably better than Hopsecutioner IMO, but I won't be sad to see it go. (858 characters)

22 oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.

A- Hazy sunset orange with a two finger head that sticks around for a while. Leaves some small lines of lacing.

S- Described as a Hefeweizen IPA the smell is pretty spot on with bold juicy pink grapefruit and mandarine hops with tropical notes of peach and pineapple and finishes with some banana, clove, pepper spice and wheat.

T- Nice mix of citrus and tropical hops with grapefruit, mandarine, peach and pineapple upfront, however, after that, the hefeweizen side is nearly undetectable with faint nots of sweet wheat and a bit of banana.

M- Medium carbonation and body with a slightly dry finish.

O- I admire Terrapins creativity and trying to push the boundaries of an IPA, but was kind of disappointed. The nose was very promising but the taste fell a bit flat with the hefe side tasting a little watered down. Very drinkable however. (890 characters)

Nice balance between a hefe and an IPA, and who would think of such a thing. Orange and unfiltered. A good blend, hops and wheat. Carbonation is right there and its still a good mouthfeel. Some orange and other fruity taste. IBU 75.Radek's bottle.Seek one out. (260 characters)

22oz bottle into a Smuttynose tulip.

Pours a dark orange with a two finger off white head that quickly fades leaving a little lacing. I'm picking up some citrus as well as a minty herbal note in the aroma along with the classic banana hefe yeast. Taste is a lot of the same which leads to a big clash in flavors. Medium full body with a bit of slickness and medium carbonation. I'm wondering if a little more carbonation would have helped ease the mouthfeel. Overall an interesting attempt but for me really misses the mark resulting in just an IPA smashed together with a hefe. I'll probably skip finishing the bottle. (620 characters)

Poured a very cloudy orangish color with a good amount of beige head on it.

Smell is very nice and hoppy with a wheat smell coming through as well. some citrus smell as well.

Taste is pretty fantastic. Really great bitter hop flavor throughout. Also a nice wheat flabor coming through. This tastes exactly like the label says.

Mouthfeel is light-medium and goes down smooth and easy.

Overall a great beer that I really enjoyed. I'd love to try this again. (463 characters)

Man was I excited when I saw this in the store; my two favorite kinds of beer rolled into one. Bomber poured into weizen glass.

A: Hazy yellow-amber to deep orange at the deepest part of the glass, with a thin off-white frothy head that is staying at <1cm thick leaving tons of lacing.

S: The nose seems to be a battle between hops and banana bread yeast aromas. There are also hints of a sweet malt. It seems that each time I put my nose to the glass I pick up a new scent. Swirled up you get a burst of hop aroma, let it sit and it starts to smell like a weiss beer.

T: A little on the sweet side, but balanced incredibly well for all of what's going on in this ale. Citric hop bitterness upfront that quickly gives way to soft banana flavors mixed in with mild hops. Finishes with a piney bitter dryness.

M: Medium bodied with carbonation a little on the soft side, and finishes quite dry.

O: This is a hard beer to judge against other IPA's. It's not a hop bomb by any means, although there is no shortage of hop flavor here. I find this beer to be exceptional because I've never had anything like it, and I've never seen this style done before. I think the two go together quite well. (1,198 characters)

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Out of the bottle a nice symetrical off white head is produced of about two-three fingers, seems a little foamy but recedes fairly slowly and obviously. Body color though is odd but perhaps expected for this almagmation. Cloudy. Dirty. Orange pale amber yellows and Hefeweizen cloudyness. I have to say this doesn't look that appealing.

Smell is, down the line very hard to get. Muted wheat and citrus like hops. Pleasant but completely burried, it seems like they are cancelling each other out.

Taste is real interesting. Hop and malt blast a little with this dense chewy feel. Hints of banana, and a strong taste in the afterfinish of whipped up chocolate. And luxurious velvet like palate, soft and just whipped up body. Hopped up chocolate and taste with nice velvety sugars, back and forth. Fruity banana and chocolate comes out over and over, just fun.

Woah color me impressed I thought this was going to be a disaster but I really like this marriage. Thought for sure that this looked like a train wreck but nope I really dig this, whatever style you want to call this. (1,128 characters)

This is a golden beer with a medium haze. The head is shallow, becoming non-existent, an unremarkably looking beer. The aroma, however, is quite nice. It presents a nice pine and fruit hop scent. There's apricot, wood, and lots of pine needles. Although a touch of malt is present underneath, it's mostly hidden. The wheat in the beer comes out more in the flavor than the aroma, which is dominated by the hops. It's a full flavor, but very heavily hop-centric. The beer is nicely balanced. Moderate sweetness continues thorugh the finish, which lingers. Medium bitterness. The body is full and firm. This is an okay beer...nothing extraordinary, but still very nice. (667 characters)

Serving: Bomber into an ale glass.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy copper with a thin head on it. Lots of visible carbonation. Leaves ok lacing.

S: Smells of wheat beer, sort of flowery. Not bad.

T: Very interesting; definitely strong wheat malt character up front with a fairly good level of bitterness. Malt flavor lingers in the mouth for quite a while. You could definitely call this a "wheat IPA" like it says on the bottle. Not bad at all.

M: This one is silky and coats the mouth really well.

O: I didn't know what to expect, I bought this on a whim since I liked most of Terrapin's other side project beers. While I am not a wheat beer fan I am big for IPAs so this was interesting to try. (697 characters)

Poured from a bomber into a nonic.

This brew pours a hazy gold color capped with a finger's worth of head that retains and laces well. The aroma is nice and hoppy primarily, with just a touch of wheat in the back. The wheat beer aspect comes through a lot more on the taste, with the wheat and lemon working well with the level of hoppiness that an IPA brings to the table. Not as hoppy as the nose would suggest, but still very nice. The mouthfeel is solid, it's got a medium-light body, and the drinkability is quite good. Overall, an enjoyable hopped-up American Wheat (not much "German Style" as the bottle boasts), not quite an IPA, but still enjoyable. (659 characters)

Pours a hazy orange-ish color with an off white head. In the aroma, grapefruity hops and small wheat like notes. In the taste, big grapefruity hops, a small dry wheat backing, but hops override all. A hop bite and medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry fresh grapefruity hop in the aftertaste. Big hops, looking for more balance, but not there, dare I say, too hoppy. (375 characters)

I've been a bit disappointed in the side projects recently, and this one is no exception. To start with the label art, name, and backstory is so convoluted and random as to just be silly. It's either completely nonsensical or such an inside joke that it lacks all humor. None of that affects the beer, however. The beer itself doesn't really work, unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, but the whole idea was flawed from conception in my opinion. A seriously hoppy wheat beer like this results in a taste clash between the bitter, spicy hops and the tangy yeast that just doesn't work for me. There is a big herbal component from what seems like summit hops that further confuses things with an almost lactic note. I 'm all for experimentation, but this isn't even that interesting- just an ipa and hefe crammed together- to no great effect, Ho-hum. (865 characters)

A - Served with a cloudy, golden body...it showed some orange highlights as well...a one finger, white head was apparent but it fell quickly into a white ring...carbonation was visible...there was some decent lacing left behind

S - The hefe part stands out the most with some wheat, yeast, and banana being the forerunners...the hops, sweet and citrusy, are in the background

T - The flavors start off again with the hefe part of the beer...fruity and fresh banana...this has got some sweet notes going on...there is a mild spice presence in the middle of the beer that adds an earthy flavor as well...the hops finish the beer juicy, sweet, and citrusy

M - Medium bodied...spicy...bitter citrus hops

O - I don't think I'd call this one an IPA...I think it could be classified a little better...I've had hopped-up hefeweizens before and they were pretty good...this ones flavors just fell a little short...there was nothing to tie it together...but since it's a Side Project beer, I'd have it again (1,001 characters)

On-tap at the Porter in Atlanta.

Pours a slightly hazy golden-copper color with a white head leaving solid lacing.

Smells of pale malts with large amounts of citrus and floral hops backed by light wheat twang.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Pale malt with hints of tangy wheat up front are joined by solid citrus and lightly herbal hops. The hops lighten up midway through the sip, carrying through to a moderately bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with smooth carbonation.

Overall this is a solid beer for the style, not quite out the park, such as Gumballhead, but better than many attempts. Worth a shot. (613 characters)

This beer pours a deep golden amber with a monster three finger sticky white head. This rested gently down and left behind generous amounts of side glass clingy and sticky lacing.
The aromas are quite potent with a huge floral hop presence, lesser amounts of grapefruit and even lesser amounts of orange/ tangerine. Light sweet maltiness on the back end as well which asserts itself more as it opens up.
The tastes begin with wavy of sweet pale and bready and biscuity maltiness; definitely some wheatiness as well that I have not experienced in an IPA to date, but this is a wheat IPA so I guess it makes sense. Hops join the party next with lots of orange and pineapple.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice bitter and dry finish was helps to balance out the malty sweetness. Great smooth and light feel which is no match for the huge flavor in this beer. Carbonation is ample and perfect for the style and helps to balance the full body that the wheat addition provides.
Overall this was a treat. Quite unexpected, but I guess I also did not know what to expect. A full bodied, sweet and wheaty flavored, German, hoppy, balanced IPA. Not too sweet or bitter or wheaty; I enjoyed it. Recommended... yes. Much better than the last special release (Black Saison I think... not important; it wasn't good.) (1,311 characters)

On tap at Kickbacks

A-Pours a dark orange/copper color with a slight haze. Half a finger of off white head has fair retention and leaves a bit of lace.

S-Fruits and grains. Banana, wheat, some citrusy hops.

T-Floral and citrus hops, banana, wheat, cloves. Its ok, nothing that really wows me.

M-Medium body, dry, crisp.

O-A twist on an American IPA that isn't bad, but not great either. (391 characters)
