Went to terrapin and had this beer at the location itself. really great! a german alt bier that is very versitile, you can drink this beer year round. i have also like old mecklenburg copper ale but this one is better. A bit sweet but really nice. i hope terrapin keeps this one around and sells it outside the brewery.

After a nice good hard pour this beer comes out a full deep amber with a sticky one finger light tannish colored head, aone full ring of lace is left behind as it settles very very slowly. The aromas are very dissapointing with not much other than some iron/mettalic notes coming thru. The body is smooth just a tad light, but the smoothness for the style was nice.Dryer on the palate with some nuttiness and a firm crispness, some leafy hops and that metallic tinge in the finish.A beer I could drink all day,I may have liked a little more sweetness to it wich for me that is saying something.

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Dense rocky head, impressive with a clear reddish hue. Aromas of earthy malt, fresh grass, bread, and faintly herbal hop. Smooth, moderate sized body, wet, fresh grain, toasty, mineral, herbal, hay, very malty, hint of sweetness, clean, ample hop bitterness, drying finish.

Wow, Terrapin pretty much nailed the style here. Very well done.

Appearance: light molasses brown with tan highlights, thin off white head, good clarity

Aroma: nutty with a slight sweet molasses hint, little bit of a yeasty fruitiness, slight toasty bread notes,

Taste: smooth, easy drinking with an embracing nuttiness with a slight sweetness and fruitiness to it. A great balance overall. Great malt character balanced by just enough bitterness

Mouthfeel: lager like mouthfeel, crisp and medium bodied but with a slight ale like thickness to it. Medium carbonation

Overall: Not quite as good as the german altbiers but definitely a very solid american interpretation. Expect nuttiness and slight sweetness on the tongue with a balanced finish.

On tap at Flying Saucer Raleigh

A - caramel amber with a thin off white head that has good retention

S - caramel, a bit lager-y

T - caramel, earthy hop character, lager-y, mild bitterness in the finish

M - medium bodied, smooth, well carbonated

This was a nice change of pace for me. This is a well-flavored, drinkable lager. This was enjoyable. It's not something I would usually go after, but on a nice early spring day, it was very refreshing. I'm glad I tried it.
