12oz brown bottle with a best if enjoyed before date printed on the label. Served in a mug.
Pours a pale yellow with a huge, foamy, white head. The body clarity is mildly hazy, and the carbonation is profuse. The head is fairly slow to diminish and leaves behind streaky lacing. The nose has a moderate husky grain character along with a pretty strong smell of corn. A bit of soapy yeast and faint floral hop presence as well. Much like the aroma, the taste has a straw-like grain quality with some cooked corn and a slightly sour finish. Maybe a small amount of citrus hop flavor in there as well. The carbonation is like seltzer on the tongue and kind of gets in the way of the taste. Mouthfeel is light bodied with a somewhat thin/watery texture and loads of fizzy carbonation.
As this is the first cream ale that I have tried, perhaps it is a style that I am simply not that fond. This beer is intended to be a light, refreshing, "warm weather" brew, so maybe I am doing it a disservice by having one in the middle of winter. All of that being said, there just seems to be something lacking in this one. The semi-sour taste is sort of off-putting and the carbonation is over the top for me. I probably would not have another.
