The color appeared to be a light golden pear that set under a bright frothy, thick and sudsy head.

Quite complex in the nose I get honey, banana, spicy black pepper, honeysuckle flower, a herbal hop and a bit of perfume.

The flavor is very strong on the honeysuckle flower, with a caramel and toffee malt backbone. The hops are herbal but sweet and it finishes with the perfume like flavor.

The feel is light, fizzy and prickly but not so bad as to be abrasive.

An enjoyable beer with good variance and a light countenance.

"Straight from the Orient and into the brewing ingredient R&D field comes the next incarnation of the most beloved IPA brewer on the planet, Dr. Krunkles. The Dr. is in with a new White Farmhouse IPA that has ordinary brewmasters bending over and singing "Moon River" in his honor. Dr. Krunkles White Farmhouse IPA reaches new heights in complexity and flavor by combining the malt and spices of a Belgian Witbier, the yeast of a Farmhouse Ale and the hoppy goodness of an American IPA. Dr. Krunkle's twisted touch is a dash of white peppercorn and then wood aging on white ash." Brewed in the style of a White IPA, this is Terrapin's 20th Side Project release, available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served above 58º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) A vigorous pour yields a pastel white head of a crisp foamy consistency over a golden amber body. Clarity is very high despite some very fine sediment and carbonation is plentiful and vivacious. Retention is above average and lacing is thin and spotty. 4

(Smell) The aroma is very indicative of a Farmhouse Ale (Saison) up front, with the other notes trailing. Anticipate sweet wheat malts and some toasted caramel with a generous dose of bitter orange peel, drops of lemon, apricot and pear plus a peppery nose of coriander and white pepper for a spritely aroma. Hop notes of grapefruit, mango and pineapple trail the yeast profile but generate a pleasant twist on the aroma and a mild-moderate bitterness. Any hints of white ash aging are subtle at best. Potency is medium. 3.5

(Taste) Up front expect a generous dose of coriander spice bolstering a milder wheat body, finishing with a dry, bitter citrus and white pepper finish. The saison yeast strain is unmistakeable in the flavor of this beer, and the muted sweetness helps give way to the impact of the white ash on the flavor. While the reservation of sweetness and light body makes for a very sessionable ale, I found the dryness made notes like the white peppercorns and coriander explode into the foreground for an unusual spicy, peppery bitterness. The hoppy IPA angle is the least impressive part of the flavor, with some grassy and lemony notes and a very mild bitterness as well, neither cut through the saison yeast nor the peppery spice to make a significant contribution to the flavor. 3.5

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, oily and resinous. Carbonation adds a moderate froth and smooth crispness for a texture appropriate for a saison. Balance is dry over peppery bitterness over sweet. Body is light+ for the style, light/medium overall. Alcohol presence is light. 3.75

(Overall) Dr. Krunkles White Farmhouse IPA is a bit more Farmhouse than white and more white than IPA. As before mentioned, I like the white ash addition in this body despite the caveat of a less sweet and less robust malt body it produces. It manages to focus more on the spiciness and earthy peppery notes of the white pepper and coriander, which are not in the least bit hindered by the white ash and produce an IPA-level of bitterness through an unexpected source. The hop-IPA character, however doesn't rise above the farmhouse yeast notes enough to tell it apart from the bitter, dried citrus of the Belgian white body. A fairly busybody brew with so much going on that it's going to be hard to tell if you like it or not. 3.5
