Solid spot in the north metro. A decent tap line up, with a couple boring big craft options like shock top, drop top, and Red Hook, a couple BMC options, but then they always have Surly and a rotating line of cool stuff like Goose Island BCBS, Founders Nemesis, Goose Island Minx, and others. Always a surprise. THe bottle selection is quite nice, with Old Rasputin, Dirty Bastard, Maharaja, plus several more. The food is upscale pub stuff, truffle fries, nicer pizzas and other stuff like that. The service is pretty good. They do stuff like trivia also, and they have amazing happy hours. Good spot. (602 characters)

Stopped in the other day to make an in person trade and to have a brew. The place has the look of an applebees or TGIF, but was otherwise good size and comfortable enough, with something of sports bar vibe. We sat in the modest size bar area to the left when we walked in, where we relaxed with a beer or two. Selection was decent, with some 16 or 18 beers on tap, made up primarily of craft beer, with 2 or 3 macro swill options as well. Quality was pretty decent, and on this day included GI "the illinois," Surly Abrasive and Furious I believe, and then the founders dirty bastard (as well as a number of other choices). Service was OK. Our waitress wasn't exactly a fountain of info, but was pleasant and friendly enough otherwise. Prices seemed a bit high (not sure I understand the $8 price tag for the GI Illinois by the 10 ounce glass), but seemed to be in line for the area.

While nothing jaw dropping, this was a solid enough place that I'd happily visit again sometime, if I'm ever back in the area. (1,011 characters)

I believe Bricks opened up at the beginning of last summer in Blaine. It is located in a nondescript shopping center. The atmosphere seems to want to be modern and rustic at the same time. It does this through the heavy use of decorative bricks and stainless steel. They have a dozen or so taps most of which are craft beer or pseudo craft beer. The tap selection seemed to have a few more solid options last summer, but the last couple times I've been in there has been a number of Widmer and Redhook beers on tap that I have found uninteresting. On the bright side they do carry Surly on tap, along with a couple Goose Island offerings (Sofie has been on tap a bunch of times I've gone in). Last time I was in they even had a couple imperial stouts on tap. They do a good job rotating their tap offerings to provide more variety. I have never experienced anything that would lead me to believe their tap lines are dirty, and they serve the beers at a proper temperature in proper glassware. The service has been top notch. The bartenders have always been able to intelligently describe the beers they offer, and are fast and attentive. When I've ordered food it has also arrived quickly. The food is upscale pub fair, and has been good to great overall. I've enjoyed the sandwiches I've had although the fries have been way too salty every time. I had one of their brick oven pizzas last time I was there, and it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. I would come back here just for the pizza. Prices are fair. Overall, Bricks is a nice place to have a beer in the Blaine/Coon Rapids area, and the only place in the area that I know of that serves Surly on tap. I will certainly be stopping there again. (1,709 characters)
