Pours a hazy amber with ruby hues and a fluffy off-white head. The nose is dark fruits, caramel malts and a touch of spicy yeast. The taste follows suit with loads of sweetness from the caramel malts leading the way. The dark fruits are more hidden here, sitting towards the back end. The finish is a touch spicy, and then slightly bitter. Overall, it's a decent dubbel; very straightforward and enjoyable.

Their stuff has always worked well enough for me. Not mind blowing but not terrible. Dark fruits and caramel are there with a light peppery Belgian spice and some herbal grape.

Damn, it's like they made a better version of Chimay dubbel. The flavor has creamy vanilla and slightly tart cherry and earthy caramel. The aroma has more bread crust and cola, a touch of apple. Very drinkable and satisfying.

Quick notes:

Decent Dubbel aroma, with dark fruit and some spices. A bit of caramel malt aroma.

Flavor is a little hard to pin down. There's some dark fruit (prunes and plums), some more bread-like malt, and a fair amount of dryness and spice. Decent yeast presence. Balance is lacking, as is any aspect of the profile that really grabs my attention and makes me want to take another sip.

A little thin on the feel, while also being pretty hot for 8%. Dubbels aren't typically a style that hide ABV well, so I'm not holding it against this beer too much, but it isn't making the overall experience any better.

Ultimately, not a great beer, and not a particularly good Dubbel. Very few American brewers have managed to pin down this style. Definitely a drinkable beer, but certainly not something I'd seek out, especially if I'm actually in the mood for a Dubbel.

A: The beer is clear reddish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high light beige colored head that has excellent retention properties and consistently left a short head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of fruits are present in the nose—pears and plums seem to stand out in particular—along with some hints of candi sugar and Belgian yeast.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of grapes, pears and plums along with notes of Belgian yeast and hints of candi sugar. Only a slight amount of sweetness is perceptible.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer was rather easy to drink for a dubbel because any traces of alcohol were well hidden from the taste and it didn't have that heavy of a body since the carbonation helps to lighten things up.

Appearance: Pours a rusty dark brown color with accents of red. Rich, decadent slightly off white head of a finger and a half is produced on the pour and is present while drinking. Active carbonation is above average for the style.

Smell: Airy white pepper and dried peppercorns greet the drinker on the nose. Biting spices, tart green apples, and boozy dark fruits warm up on the body and really open up this aroma. Touches of brown sugar and candied sugars really pop on the body. Earth, pine, and grass are subtle on the back end.

Taste: Dark fruits hit the palate immediately. As the booze and fruits pull you in, herbal, earthy spices begin to grow and dominate the mid palate. Plenty of candied brown sugar, tart green apples, and some slightly soapy flavors blast on to the scene. Wheat, barley, and prairie grass all bring some flavor full circle, with a touch of lingering tart sugars.

Mouthfeel: Highly drinkable. Spices are noticeable but balanced on the palate. Only a touch of the 8% abv is noticeable and even that takes nothing away from this brew.

Overall: I was all in on the aroma but some of the tart, soapy flavors on the body are a little disappointing. That being said this is still a very well done dubbel which is worth a shot.
