Frankfurter Brauhaus - Prost! Hefe
500ml can, €,33 @ Kaufland, Goerzallee 195, 14167 Berlin, Germany
Appearance: Hazy yellow-orange body beneath a decent-sixed head of creamy bright white froth. The retention could be better, as could the lacing.
Smell: Malty, wheaty. Mildly phenolic background notes barely suggest banana and clove.
Taste: As in the aroma, the malt dominates the flavor profile with a mid-range wheaty flavor that's neither sweet nor dry, just there. Obviously the bitterness is kept low so that it just teeters there... I'd call it a "mild-middle" bitterness. Perhaps that's intended to give it more drinkablility(?). Some subtle green banana, and very subtle clove come through. No real tartness or citrus character. There's no real complexity to it, and it starts and finishes pretty much exactly the same.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light leaning towards medium in body. Just slightly elevated carbonation level. Fairly smooth but missing a bit of crispness.
Overall: As far as hefeweizens go, this seems almost like a watered down version. It's inexpensive and drinkable, but not really worthy of the style.
Serving type: can
